Diana Koala, MD

I know it’s exceptionally rare for a man to write a review for an ob/​gyn, but I’m compelled based on the cold, assuming service my wife received after the birth of our first child. Dr Koala acted aloof and indifferent when treating my wife while on rounds during my wife’s recovery. Her service stood in stark contrast to the warm, caring service we received from the other doctors in the practice. After sending a measured letter expressing her concern with Koala’s manner, my wife received a reply telling her she was wrong, because Dr Koala is a ‘caring person’. It was comical and insulting. We have read reviews describing Koala as ‘no nonsense’, but unless you are a robot with a vagina, I don’t think you’ll appreciate her ‘no nonsense’ approach.

Dr koala was my provider throughout my pregnancy, and I felt very well cared for. She was friendly and direct, and provided helpful and accurate information. Yes, like other OBs, she didn’t have oodles of time to spend with me, but that’s the nature of the business, unfortunately. If you want an hour every time, you’ll have to see a midwife. However, when I really had a scary problem, she found time, even calling to check on me in the evening when she wasn’t on call. I would definitely go back to her in the future.

Dr, Koala is no nonsense and I really appreciate her approach to care. She performed a laparoscopy on me and was very attentive throughout.

I recommend this practice.

It’s time for an update.
I’ve lowered my rating for this office and doctor from 5 down to a 2 after having out-​patient surgery. Her Medical Assistant Courtney is very down to earth, caring and well educated about the field of OB/​GYN.
I will start by saying my medical history is complex and not your everyday run of the mill issues seen frequently in an early 30’s female.
One big reason for my lowered rating is the lack of communication. I was told to return in 4 weeks for a post-​op appt by Dr. Koala. It was only after I had a few post-​op «issues» that made me return to her office prior to my 4 week appointment that I was told I had stitches in my incision that needed to be removed. Had I not returned within days after my surgery I’m not sure what would have happened. I guess I was ‘lucky” to have post-​op complications.
I have no intention of returning to this office. In fact I cancelled my 4 week post-​op visit because I felt there was no use in spending the parking fees for the care I got here.

Not the kind of doctor you want around if you need any empathy during your pregnancy. I had severe perinatal and postpartum mood disorder, while under Dr. Koala’s care she did not assist in the least in helping me find treatment and being compassionate towards me and my hormone related illness. I wish I had chosen a care provider who realized that mental health affects the health of the mom as well as the baby. Early intervention is key and my health care was taken care of by other much better qualified health care providers long after my baby was delivered. But, by then, it was much too late and my health and my baby’s health was compromised beyond repair.

Dr. Koala was the perfect Doctor for me during my pregnancy. She’s all business, which I love, and also has a very compassionate and personal side. I’m the kind of person that likes to know details and Dr. Koala always made sure to be thorough, ask the right questions, and took the time to explain everything to me. During my pregnancy I had preeclampsia and she was on top of it from the start. We were keeping track of my blood pressures and taking lots of tests throughout my pregnancy. When my preeclapmsia got worse, I called her, she met me at the hospital and we started inducing my labor. Although another doctor actually delivered my baby, Dr. Koala made sure to introduce me to the other doctor and called and checked up on me after my delivery. If you want a smart, informative, and kind Dr. for your pregnancy, I highly recommend Dr. Koala!

I am lowering my rating to 1 star because she blatantly lied to me in an attempt to get me to agree to a repeat c section. She told me that at 41 weeks, my AFI (amniotic fluid index) should be 16. Especially since I was carrying a huge baby. If you’re considering this provider, just look up what the AFI should be at 41 weeks, and ask yourself if you can trust an OB who either has no actual medical knowledge OR has no qualms lying to her patients.
I had been wishing for a vbac, so her consistent attempts to convince me to have a repeat c section with various scare tactics were really unsupportive (she said things like «the cards are stacked against you» «you have a small pelvis and a huge baby» «most of my patients would be begging me for a c section right now»).
Looking back, I should have switched providers much sooner then I did (at 41 weeks) bc she obviously did not support my desires for a VBAC, yet would not say that to me and refer me to another care provider who might see more eye to eye with me (which is what a medical professional is expected to do).
I knew that even if I did end up needing another c section, I did not want to give her the honor of delivering my baby. Trust was gone, and I was incredibly disappointed in how she managed my pregnancy. I had no desire to see her at my baby’s birth or to have her share that experience with my family. I am SO glad I got out of there, I just wish I had done it sooner in my pregnancy. I know I would have had a much more honest and trusting experience had I gotten out of there sooner.
Even if you are a first time mom or are going for standard care and not a vbac, I still ask that you question whether or not you want to TRUST your DR. And if trust is important to you, look elsewhere.

This is my second pregnancy and I have loved seeing Dr. Koala. She is always pleasant and runs on time. If I have concerns, she spends more time as needed, but otherwise, she is very respectful of my time and gets me in and out, which I appreciate since the visits are so frequent (I’m 39 weeks now). Her nurse, Courtney, is also great. Both are great about phone follow ups and are totally ok with phone calls (I left my OB in my first pregnancy after the nurse told me that she didn’t think the MD had the time to call patients to discuss every little thing — this «little thing» happened to be an abnormal triple screen in my first trimester, which I didn’t think was such a little deal… anyway, NEVER felt like that with Dr. Koala and Courtney). Would totally see her again — although this is probably the last pregnancy, so maybe it’ll just be for annuals.

My original post for the Office:
I was really disappointed in the care I received from this office and Dr. Koala. While she is a nice person, she always rushed me out of the office and never wanted to really answer my questions because she didn’t think they were important.
This is my first pregnancy and I am going through it alone, I should at least be able to ask my doctor a couple questions if my appointment is only lasting 5 minutes. When I asked her a question she made me feel stupid and asked me if I am reading my baby books… and I am reading multiple baby books!
She was not helpful and made me feel like I was a burden that she did not have time for. Sadly, I like the cleanliness of the office, but I had to switch to another doctor outside of this office.

Nice person, but I always feel rushed during my prenatal visits. I started seeing her halfway through my pregnancy (I’m due in May) and I think I’m starting to regret leaving my other dr. She’ll ask a question and cuts me off during my answer. I’m hoping she will be different during my delivery as I’m having visions of her rushing me me to push the baby out! I realize dr’s are busy people, but feel especially as an ob/​gyn she should be patient and I should not walk out of there feeling rushed, it can feel a bit deflatingespecially when its your first pregnancy.

Dr Koala is a lovely human and terrific doctor. She is patient and thorough. I’ve never felt rushed even though I know she is extremely busy. I fired another OB halfway through my first pregnancy and switched to her. She’s flexible and absolutely willing to work with her patients. She has great communication skills. Sadly she wasn’t able to deliver my 3^rd baby but her partner who was working that day was also great.
