Desert Sun

I went in for a spray tan before Valentine’s Day weekend. I decided to use one of the 4 that I had left and got the level 1 bronze. I have gotten the level one about 20 times in the past at a different location closer to my house and have always been satisfied with the glow. I thought it would be consistent everywhere. Nope, went in and did everything I was supposed to, didnt shower or get wet for 12 hours and it NEVER developed. Nothing even showed up. Complete waste of money. I don’t even want to go in and ask about it because the employee was rude and unhelpful. Avoid this location at ALL costs, extremely cheap and waste of $$.

I would give them 0 stars if I could. This place is horrible. The girls who work here are rude and pushy and need to get a life outside of tanning. I heard them shit talking customers and are just rude and disrespectful. Tropical Tan in Wallingford or Lake City is a better price and the girls there are sweet and won’t pressure you to spend 85 dollars on lotion. I would give them a try instead.

Have been coming to Desert Sun for years starting with the Wedgwood location and now at the current location. Have always had great service from both locations! This location is always spotlessly clean and well kept. Easy to get in and tan, nice to get a burst of vitamin D even if it’s just my attitude adjustment for the day.
My job is a trainer with a large corporate company where customer service is stressed immensely. I personally have very high expectations and do not patronize businesses that do not provide excellent service, there’s no excuse for poor service!
Kodi; the manager at this location; has always provided excellent service and has done well training other team members to provide the same level of service. Kudos for professionalism!
As for other comments of a negative nature on Unilocal,I have never experienced any of those things. No high pressure sales (sure they tell me the specials and how to save money, I expect that) but I’ve never felt «pressured». Never overcharged, prices are posted and explained all you need to do is read and ask.
If you want to tan/​versa spray tan, this is the best place in town! Keep Kodi, she awesome!

Please don’t ever go here. All of the people who work there give new meaning to hiigh pressure sales. They are rude and they all give you false information and will not shut up about trying to sell you more. I will never go here again.

WE love tanning at this Desert Sun Tanning Salon. Cody and all the staff there are so wonderful. I see that I am not alone in this feeling. I can’t say enough. We took advantage of a late winter Groupon, and bought a package to amend that. You’ll enjoy the quick turn around and the knowledge they have about all their products.
A great way to get over cabin fever and spring depression.

The staff can be very unprofessional at times. Such as discussing personal matters in front of customers; which is unacceptable. The bathroom was very dirty; it looked like the toilet hadn’t been cleaned in a few weeks, dirty sinks, which makes me wonder how clean the rest of the place is. Also I feel like the staff could be educated better on the certain types of lotions to use in what specific types of beds; to ensure customers aren’t getting burned.

Sad, rip off and horrible service. How do I get my money back???
They overcharged me for nearly $ 100 and no one is taking care of this. The manager Taylor promised me to refund the amount to me on September 2013 but I never got the $$ back to my credit card. I emailed Taylor with a follow-​up email for 4 month. She would tell me to wait at first but eventually she went MIA.
Called the university village branch and left couple message, got no call back.
Emailed customer service, forwarded the emails I had between my and the branch manager. NO RESPONSE.
This is sad, I used their service for 4 month and I was pretty satisfied with it. I can’t believe after I left Seattle they treat me like air. Why does it take more than 5 month just to refund $ 100 ??? And why everyone pretended they care and went MIA eventually???

Just have to say, they have the best staff! Happy, informing, and just overall great. Always running specials and they always make sure you understand exactly what you’re getting. I’ve been everywhere and I must say, this is by far the best salon i’ve gone to! Its super clean and there is never a wait!!! I got 3 months of upgrades FREE too this month with my membership!!! Thats awesome!

After moving, I decided to try this new location. I had several tans left on my account from another location and The girl at the counter told me I had none on my account. I ALWAYS ask to make sure the tans don’t expire when I buy them because I don’t tan that often and they ALWAYS tell me I don’t have any more tans when I go in.
At this location, a girl who said she was the manager told me a person at the last location must have messed up and there was no way she could get me my tans back, but assured me that if I keep coming to her location, she would give me 5 free medium tans. I said fine (even though I had purchased more than that), tanned, and went on my way. Went back a month later to use my tans, and SURPRISE they weren’t on there and there was no record of me tanning a month prior. No record that I was there AT ALL. I argued with the girl at the counter and then she «found» two unactivated tans from a year ago that I could activate and use on my account. Why hadn’t the last girl found these? Where were my 5 tans?
My tans have disappeared at EVERY location I’ve tried. Every time I go back I am assured it won’t happen again and they con me into buying more, but I’ve had enough and I will never go back to Desert Sun ever again. They’ve conned me out of at least $ 100, probably more.

I have been a member of Desert Sun since moving to Seattle 4 years ago. That being said, I have also utilized many of the various locations that they have throughout the city — Each one being very different from the rest. I would have to remark that this location is by far my favorite, and that every visit to it has been nothing but superb. In the past my experiences with tanning salons in general have been lacking in both atmosphere and customer service. This location however, is the best of any salon I have ever been to. It’s very clean, with a nice layout and décor, and I am never left wanting in terms of warmth (lets face it, cold tanning salons are a bit annoying). The staff there is very welcoming, genuine, and just down-​to-​earth (something I have never experienced with any salon before this, and trust me, although I am ashamed to admit it out loud, I have been to A LOT of different salons over the years…) I’ve never taken the time to become on a one-​on-​one name basis with any salon employee before, but both Kodi and Kerestin have made it impossible not want to greet them warmly every time I see them. I will continue to hold this location, and its staff, in my highest regard. Especially when referring people upon their inquiry into where I got such a nice tan during the most miserably cold and sunless months of the year.

I have been a member of Desert Sun for awhile now and started going to this location when I moved to the area last March! I want to say it is by far my favorite location with probably the friendliest staff!
Yesterday I came in to cancel my monthly tanning package because I had a scare recently and just can’t risk it anymore. I was going to change to a monthly Sunless package but the Manager Kerestin told me the best way to go with the sunless tans and gave me the best deal! She is the reason I purchased some Versas and will continue to be a regular at this salon!

This salon is very nice, clean and newer. Although, the thing that bothered me about going here is after buying my tanning package, every single time I went to tan; a staff member tried to imply me to spend more money. Can I just tan and if I need/​want something I’ll ask? I can’t stand that type of selling pressure when dealing with tanning salons. I haven’t been back since, even though this is the cloest tanning salon to my house, I drive further for a less pressure atmosphere.

I know… I know… I shouldn’t be tanning at my age (no, I’m not revealing my age folks). Not great for my skin but… It’s winter and going to Desert Sun adds spring to my step. I get warmed through and through and I find that it fights off the SAD.
So, indulge me here and know that I am aware of the hazards.
This location is so spotless and well run. The Manager is a doll: very friendly, personable, welcoming. As someone else noted, I have never endured a hard sell of either lotion of extra services. I recetly purchased a Groupon for DS and not on person has made me feel badly about getting such a deal or has tried to upsell me. Phew! What a nice change of pace.
I also appreciate the free underground parking.
I would suggest that you make certain your room stereo is working before you completely undress. My needed a reboot, but aside from that, I find the University location a good choice of salons.
I am a happy customer.

Horrible experience with this place. Purchased a package from here even though I live in a distant city and was promised if I needed to make any changes I could call and have it done. Of course managers changed and every time I called she wasn’t in ot id get put on hold and hung up on. Horrible customer service skills and highly unprofessional staff is almost as bad as the high membership fees. I don’t mind spending money but this was a complete waste. The beds really aren’t as strong as they’re said to be either!

This one-​star rating isn’t a take on the entire salon overall, just their mystic bed. After finding a killer NYE outfit at UVillage, I decided to pop across the street for a quick spray sesh.
The salon looks clean and appears to be like every other tanning salon. The leather-​faced salesgirl ends her call and greets (berates) me. The faint smell of roasting flesh floods my nostrils as I walk down the hall towards Room 12. I used enough cream and stood the right way, but unfortunately the machine only sprays in one direction and felt like a pressure washer. The next day, I was a splotchy mess and forced to wear something else for New Years. Will not be going the cancer-​free route at that salon again!

I am sad.
I went in for a tan early October to prep for my wedding. Had 5 tans left — 4 mediums and 1 super. Awesome! So after my honeymoon, mid-​winter, when i’m feeling blue that i’m stuck in 30 degree Seattle weather, i can hop in and catch some fake rays.
Went in yesterday to do just that.
Salesgirl: «So, you know this is your last tan, riggghhhht?»
Mandy R: «Um, no, i have 5 left. 4 Mediums and a Super»
Salesgirl: «Yeah! You have a super.»
Mandy R: «Aaaand 4 mediums…»
Salesgirl: «Nooo, just the super.»
Mandy R.: «Okay, well, when i was in last [speaking slowly and in one-​syllable words], in October, i had 5. Not sure where those tans ran off to…»
Salesgirl: «Hmmm, i really don’t know what to tell you…»
Well… reading other posts on here tell me exactly what i need to know: Keep track of your tans, ladies and gents. Because before you know it (and without having used them) they’ll be gone.

This is definitely one of the best tanning salons in Seattle. Great tanning packages/​deals by friendly knowledgeable sales girls. They also have an amazing stand up tanning bed that plays music loud enough where time just flys by after a few songs. 12 minutes for a nice golden tan!
