Deep Roots Tattoo & Body Piercing

Had my septum done and it was cake. I was so scared and I could barley feel it. I forgot the guys name but he’s been piercing for 20 years. Totally worth it and make sure you tip him.

My friend has come here for most of her tattoos and has never had an issue — I think they all look great. Personally, I want one, but I’ll admit I have zero pain tolerance and I am terrified.
We stopped by yesterday afternoon so my friend could just buy some new earrings — we weren’t having anything done, just buying a pair of earrings. No big deal, in and out in 10 minutes. NOT.
There was a group of 3 in front of us, another girl after us, and another dude that walked in. It took 40 MINUTES to buy a pair of damn earrings. The group of 3 was getting ear piercings and couldn’t decide on the earring they wanted, so instead of helping all the other customers purchasing items (which we overheard was what they were doing) he stood there with them while they debated, and debated, and debated.
Finally he got to us. She picked out her earrings and then had to wait, AGAIN, to have them put in. Another 15 minutes. Just normal earrings, no crazy piercings, just normal.
I couldn’t believe how long this took. It makes me nervous to ever come here and get something done, whether I get another piercing or suck it up for my first tattoo. I will probably avoid this place just due to the lack of service and how long it took. I can only imagine how long I would be waiting if I actually had something done.
*The only positive I have to say about this place is it is very clean and inviting, and it looks like they take the steps to sanitize their stuff.

SO happy about my visit today. Went in to get my septum pierced and at no point did I feel like belittled or judged. Both Jason, the piercer, and the gentleman working the desk were helpful and friendly. The price was right on and the instructions were very thorough. I will speak very highly of this shop always! Thanks guys!

Not super happy with how they do business. I went in once just to look around and talked to the counter girl and mentioned I was thinking about stretching my ears. She then went to tell me the ONLY way to do it is buying $ 30 tiny glass plugs and paying them to put them in every month. Thankfully I actually did my research and realized that is not at all true. She was nice and all but I just really don’t appreciate being lied to so she can get the fattest buck from me,

Super nice staff and an awesome store. I got my septum pierced here and I absolutely love it. During the healing process my retainer fell out on 3 different occasions and every time I brought it in and they put it back in for free.

ABSOLUTE WORST PIERCING EXPERIENCE. STILL NOT HEALED 2.5 YRS LATER. HUGE WOUND CAUSED BY JEWELRY THEY PUT IN. SEE PHOTO.
In Sep 2012 (YES 2.5 YEARS AGO) I got my first cartilage piercing. I let the staff know that I had no idea what I was doing and basically blindly chose earrings. I chose a little flower and neither of them (front desk & piercer) said anything.
In Dec 2012 I got my second cartilage piercing because I didn’t want to go through the length of time it would take one to heal twice– if that makes sense. I chose this tiny little stud to match the flower. Neither the piercer nor front desk said anything (different people).
Turns out first of all that the flower is extremely difficult to clean under. Second, the small stud I chose was so small that it would almost slip through my piercing. Neither piercer nor front desk had said anything about these potential problems to me.
Came back to get them switched out after about 4 months because it was obvious my ear was very upset. Told by new piercer, «Oh yeah you should have never been given these for a new piercing.» Turns out I had to buy two NEW studs so dropped another $ 60 on normal sized studs. While I was getting the studs switched out I learned my piercings were DIFFERENT SIZES. This makes absolutely NO SENSE. I knew nothing about piercing sizes and my second piercer didn’t even question to ask me if I knew what size my first one was before putting another random size in…
Another 4ish months pass. I am using the sea salt soak religiously twice a day, switching out my pillow case often, not sleeping on my ear, not using my phone with that ear and taking the very very best care that I can of it. Come in to visit again– get a reaction of HORROR from the piercer, but he says there’s nothing I can do but try to let it heal– can’t take the piercing out in case of potential infection getting trapped.
About every 4 – 6 months it would go through cycles of getting a little better then worse and I would come visit them and ask them to check up on it. I’ve probably visited them around 5 times in the 2 years. Finally decided this last time I was through with them since they obviously had no other advice than sea salt soak it and visited a different piercing parlor. To both my horror & the piercer (not from Deep Roots), the studs I had received were DIGGING INTO THE BACK of my ear. My only question was HOW did Deep Roots not catch it earlier? Or had they seen the wounds and simply IGNORED them?
Other new piercer (NOT from Deep Roots) told me I should have had a captive ball ring put in much earlier and now that I have, in the 2 weeks I’ve had it in I’ve felt MUCH more of a difference in healing than I EVER have with the studs in.
I’m very upset because of the multiple times that I had been in, NOTHING was ever even SUGGESTED to me, like switching the piercing out, using a different cleaning method, etc. I’m not even sure why I even went back to get it looked at so many times.
So I have the new piercing place put in the same size of ring because I’m not going to deal with the different sizes anymore, that’s just ridiculous. I attempt to return to Deep Roots to tell them that their piercer has put in different sizes in the piercings and I’d like to have the same size– but you cannot exchange jewelry «It’s against the law” — the front desk man so rudely tells me. NO ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. He snarkily responds, «But you can buy another set.»
I had a huge gage –14G (to the surprise of the new piercing place) put in my top cartilage piercing and I believe that is why the wound on the top is so vicious compared to the bottom. When both studs were removed there was a large buildup of skin and excretions on the piercings that indicate to me that they had existed there for a long period of time.
Either way, their service was extremely unhelpful and also at times unfriendly. They made no attempts to help me find a solution to my problems and it cost me the price of a lot of pain and potential scarring.
Please please do not go here for piercings. I don’t believe they even care whether they help you or not.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this shop. Although I have gone there for most piercings, I made a terrible mistake and had a small tattoo placed on my wrist by someone not at DR. I was given poor aftercare instructions, and once an infection began, decided to have it looked at by Taz and her team at the shop. Not only was I treated with care and respect, but Taz gave me wonderful advice and 24 hours later, my wrist is looking a lot better. Please do yourself and your body mods a favor — go see Taz at Deep Roots and book an appointment for your next procedure. You can thank me later.

I came in with a sketch I drew myself. I told the artist he could make a few changes if absolutely necessary but I wanted it to still look like my sketch. He completely changed the whole style of my design and told me that it couldn’t be done the way I had envisioned it. He was pretty firm about it and since it was my second tattoo I was easily convinced. I have now seen lots of tattoos done the way I wanted mine. Instead of helping me get the look I wanted he told me it was impossible and gave me a simplified version on my design, probably in a style that is preferable to him but certainly isn’t to me. (I wanted a delicate vintage look, he gave me something closer to American classic). It’s my fault for letting him go ahead with it but I thought as a professional, I could trust his judgment. If you want something simple or generic this shop is nice and the location is convenient but I wouldn’t go to them on more inspired or unique designs.

I absolutely love this place. I moved to Seattle seven years ago, and moved away five years ago. I still go back when I visit to deal with my piercing/​tattoo needs. This place is fantastic.
To all the people bitching about the front desk — um, sorry, this is a high-​quality tattoo and piercing shop, not Starbucks. I know you’re special and very very serious about your art, but it’s on the ave, all right? I would also grow tired of answering infinite questions on the mechanics of nose piercings and feather tattoos.
Whenever I’ve gone in, as long as I’ve been clear and direct with what I was looking for, I have received excellent customer service. No, you won’t be babysat, but you will be well-​informed by knowledgable professionals.
Now… onto the service! I have had the pleasure of working with Jason and Jason, although I believe Jason (tattoo artist) is not there anymore. Still, he was great. Did great work on my walk-​ins, and played The Mountain Goats.
Jason the piercer is even better. His patience never wavered in the face of my dramatics, he was informed, professional, compassionate, friendly and had a great sense of humor. He also was genuinely appreciated of tips (TIP YOUR PIERCER, PEOPLE! EVEN FOR A JEWELRY CHANGE!) which warmed my heart.
This place is always clean, they take their service very seriously and they know what they’re doing. I had gotten a few dermals on my chest in Singapore and they were getting irritated. I went to Deep Roots to get them out. They had no idea what kind of jewelry they used, and practically had to rip them out, but they did it in such a way as to relax me and there are no lasting scars. For that, I am thankful.
Anyway. I love this place. I’ve always tad top notch service, not-​a-​one of my piercings or tattoos has been irritated or infected in any way, and if you act like a serious, polite adult who doesn’t think they deserve to be waited on hand and foot for walking into a place where people work, you’ll be fine here.

Brought my sister her so she could get her nose pierced, her first piercing aside from her ears. We walked in and this place was so clean and Jesse and Jason were extremely welcoming. My sister was nervous but Jason calmed her immediately and went through everything with her which eased her nerves. He was patient and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for piercings!

I’ll give this place 3 stars because of their front desk help. The piercers there are very friendly and professional, but the front desk help is terrible and has been terrible for the last 5 years. I’ve gotten three lip piercings from Jason that went perfect and my nipples pierced from him that went okay, but the barbell size he choose for one of the nipples was too small and he had to change it twice while I was laying there. The barbell he decided to stay with ended up being to small and when I went in to get the correct barbell the front counter girl wanted to charge me $ 11 plus tax for the new barbell, I don’t think I should have had to pay for the new barbell beings it was the wrong pick by Jason.
In the same visit to get the new barbell, my girlfriend went to get new barbells for her vertical snakebites and the front desk girl only pulls out one barbell and rings it up, not realizing my girlfriend wanted 2… Really?! It’s a 2 piece piercing, why would she only switch one of them to the proper size?
I think I’ll be going to the other location next time and not bring anymore business to this one unless the front counter help gets drastically better.

I really wanted to like this place, but turns out the tattoo didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it. My tattoo is small, and I may be a little too meticulous, but the line of coordinates that I got here looks pretty bad compared to a set of lines I got somewhere else. This would explain why the same job took half the time. Even though I got offered a free touch up to make all lines uniform after it has healed, I don’t think I’ll be coming back here. What a shame.

This was my worst tattoo experience of my life. Now I know you’re taking your life in your hands when you do a walk in tattoo. But I have a sleeve im doing and I like to add a trinket for every trip.
The shop SEEMED ok. The front desk person was friendly enough. The tattoo artist she brought out was definitely not. Nick Hart was a pompous holier than thou unwavering poor communicator from the moment he walked out. I should have left then.
But I wanted this flower, all I knew was I wanted the Seattle official flower, a quick google on my Canadian data myself after being denied wifi access taught me it was the dahlia. Which i mispronounce and was condescendingly correct by mister Hart and the front end girl. Thumbs up for making a client feel uncomfortable and stupid and pretty much dampening my friend and i’s moods from the moment we walked in.
So I try to pick a flower and Nick picks his favorites and basically tells me my choices aren’t realistic, ok i compromise on one of his. I COMPROMISED A PEICE OF ART ON MY BODY. Then he makes a stencil and I say can it be smaller to match my other flowers? «No there’s too many petals» so it has to be huge? This guy apparently doesn’t have enough skill to either just not do some petals, or adjust it in some way to match? I think ok… Guess I’ll just make all the flowers bigger as they go up my arm… TWO compromises on MY TATTOO.
Now he sticks the stencil to me, no where near or in line with my other flowers which all flow together, I say can you please move it closer. He says no I’ll tie it in with some filigree… That’s THREE times this ass has bullied me away from what I want.
At this point I’m fighting tears and I’m sure he can tell I’m not happy but he goes ahead tattooing. I’ve only had one tattoo come close to hurting as much as this tattoo and that was a cover up on my ankle and foot bones. This was the fleshy part of my arm. Other tattoos near it felt like butterfly kisses next to this guys 200 lb hand pressure. I bled A LOT. He surrounds it in a bright green monstrosity that really makes it look completely out of place, and I mean COMPLETELY. This is a whole other thing now. You have officially done none of the things I’ve asked for
Ok now after care! He tells me to wash my tattoo morning and evening (that is definitely reasonable, check) air dry for 15 – 20 minutes then wrap my entire tattoo in Saran Wrap all day and night for 3 days. Now I’m looking at him like he was dropped as a child. But he explains its an ancient method and it won’t scab… huh… Ok…
So by the end of that day my tattoo is a soggy oozing mess. I mean when I took the Saran off I could have covered a medium sized canvas with blood plasma and ink. I wash it, air dry it, wrap it and go to bed.
Well you see if you can keep Saran on your arm while you sleep. It stayed but it moved a bit and my white hotel sheets looked like a murdered Monet painting in the morning. I’m noticing at this point my tattoo is running out of ink, and it’s turning puss yellow and starting to smell everytime I go to wash it. This cannot be good.
By the time I get back to Canada it’s becoming very clear I can’t keep up with this ridiculous method. I contact some reputable tattoo artists and they say it’s the worst thing they’ve seen in their careers, to wash it with antiseptic and start using Polysporin because it looks like it’s going septic.
I contact deep roots and they basically treat me like I’m just a squeaky wheel and exaggerating and it needs more time to heal. Nick Hart tells me tattoos don’t lose ink blah blah blah. Tries to blame it on me and gives me that same attitude I remembered so fondly. I get the run around for a few weeks and finally have to sign a contract and they say they will issue a refund. I still haven’t seen that refund. And it’s not going to touch on what it’s going to cost me to fix this mess, if I ever can.
My arm is shiny with scar tissue, the tattoo is unrecognizable, and tattoo artists I show it to are horrified this guy calls himself an artist. They also said what he charged was outrageous considering what it was even if it had turned out properly
Nick Hart is certainly not worth $ 175 an hour. I can’t speak for the other artists in this shop but if it lets people practice healing methods like that is should be condemned.
Thanks for the permeant ugly scars and memories Deep Roots. I wish I had never set foot in your establishment.

Cool store. Everyone there was super friendly. Got a color portrait of my cat on my foot by Dan and it looks just like her. His room is full of his own artwork and it looks really cool, gives you stuff to stare at while getting tattooed. I got a free touch up. I included a picture of my tattoo in the photo section. I will be back to Dan when I decide to get another tattoo.

Got my rook pierced almost a year ago. The staff were super friendly when I got it pierced with a whole group of friends (being loud and talking a lot). Very chill. They were helpful and nice when I came back a few times to check up on my piercing.

Customer service is fantastic here. Nick Hart was my tattoo artist. He was super chill and reassured me that I can relax, listening to Gambino, the Weeknd, and Banks during my session. That definitely made my first tattoo experience the best and much less nerve racking. He’s probably going to be my artist for any and all my tattoos whenever I decide to get more done.
The work on his website is pretty dope. Although mine was quite simple, it’s definitely personalized to me with the creativity of Nick infused into it. I love it. (:

I first went to Deep Roots last night (tuesday) around 9:20, but they were already closed even though their hours say they’re open until 10, which was disappointing.
Today, I went in around 12:30 to try again (you can’t make an appointment for a piercing, you have to walk-​in). There were two people staffing at the time– Rion (the piercer) and the girl at the desk. When I came in, Rion was helping someone pick out jewelry. I wasn’t listening too closely, but Rion seemed like he wanted to make absolutely sure they got what they were looking for, so I didn’t mind the wait. While I waited, the girl had me choose jewelry and fill out a waiver.
Around 1:00, Rion was ready for me. The piercings are performed in individual rooms that kinda remind me of going to the doctor’s because of the cushy table thing you sit on and because it was really clean. Rion asked me if I had any questions, so I asked him to explain how he was going to do the piercing, but I’m sure he would have explained whether I had asked or not.
Here’s how the piercing went:
1) Rion cleaned my septum with stuff that smells kinda like the fluoride dentists use.
2) He had me lay on the table (cushy doctors office-​type table) with my head hanging off so he could look straight down into my nose.
3) He felt around my septum with the blunt end of the needle until he found the best spot to pierce.
4) He got ready with the needle, had me take a deep breath in, and when I was breathing out, he stuck the needle through.
5) He got the jewelry, and slid it in right behind the needle.
6) He gave me instructions on how to clean and care for my piercing, and then I went out to the register to pay.
Once the initial needle-​going-​through-​my-​cartilage pain had subsided, it didn’t hurt at all, and the initial pain wasn’t that bad either. With the piercing, jewelry, and the H2Ocean spray (optional), it came to about $ 60. I chose to tip because I didn’t know whether I should tip or not, so I erred on the side of caution and tipped him.
Overall, a good experience in a very convenient location. I’ll probably come back when I decide to get my upper nostrils pierced.

I got my cartilage pierce here. At first everything went well. Paid 60 bucks and gave a 10 dollar tip. Well 4 – 6 months later has past and it was time to Change out of a stud and into a ring! Which was what I wanted to do from the start but decide to be patience and wait for the right timing to change so it wouldn’t fuck up my ear. So order a $ 5 dollar ring online and tried to stick it in my cartilage. No it would not fit. And it hurt like a bitch. Which shouldn’t cause it’s been five months since the piercing. FYI. My ear is completely healthy. Clean and took care of it well. So I went to laughing Buddha and ask why I couldn’t get this dang ring to fit.
Turns out the guy who pierce my ear, pierced it at such a horrible angle that it would be impossible for me to put any ring on it. :(
This was super upsetting cause all I wanted was a ring.
So apparently the guy who did my ear had no clue what he was doing or has a very bad eye. I regret that $ 10 tip now.
If you get your cartilage done here just make sure and check with him so a ring can fit. I think his name was Eric?
But now I know.
Imma go to laughing Buddha and get a double helix now. :)

First off, let me say the customer service here is superb. The people are extremely helpful and are willing to answer all your questions, even if you are completely clueless about piercings and all of that. They took the time to explain the different types of studs and I felt like I had a good grasp of my options. They also offered to put in the studs for me for free, which was a pleasant surprise.
The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was sanitized. I also liked the atmosphere — it felt like a respectable place and well-​maintained.
The jewelry itself is great. It looks good and seems to be of high quality. It fits well, in no small part because they took the time to get the right length of stud for my ear.
I give this place three stars because of the price of the jewelry. It seemed like I had ordered a rather simple set of studs in cubic zirconia but the total came out to about $ 100. I went through with the purchase partially because I wanted the jewelry and partially because I felt thankful /​guilty at the amount of help they had provided. If they cut their prices I would be inclined to come here again. Otherwise, I’ll stick with what I’ve got and go elsewhere for future purchases.

I went in on after a lot of thought and research of picking out a place to get my navel pierced. To be honest, it definitely helped that it was on my way from classes almost everyday :)
I’ve been a bit intimidated by tattoo shops before, but Deep Roots really put my mind to ease. I can’t remember the name of the gentleman that pierced my navel, but he was really awesome, great piercing knowledge and education, and made the experience fun. He was definitely a guy I could trust. After it was done, it didn’t even hurt! (That came the next day when I had to move into a new apartment! Boxes hitting your navel RIGHT after getting it pierced ISN’T fun!!:)
To make it even better, I got 15% off jewelry and they have been really helpful when the top part of the navel ring came off. Great shop that I would recommend to anyone! :)
