Davis Optical Express

The normal eye exam charge is $ 40-​$ 60. Davis charges $ 135 for an eye exam plus refraction which totals $ 190. Ridiculous.

Had one of the screws on my ray bans fall out while in town for the 4^th of July weekend. Googled the closest place that I thought would be able to help. Unfortunately the screw, more like a cap screw, on the new ray bans are unusual. But they tightened the one that was still there and I was on my way.
Gotta love old school service!

This is going to be a long review so please bear with me. So i Book an appointment with Dr. Tom for contact lenses. The first appointment and check literally lasted for ten minutes and Dr. Tom gives me prescription some lenses to try on. He does not even bother to answer any of my questions let alone telling me what kind of lenses he is giving me. He neglected me When I asked if there are any precautions that I should take and says that the prescribed lenses are day lenses so don’t wear them for more than a day. So I asked him what does he mean by day? 24 hours? Can I wear them overnight? He gets irritated by so many questions and escorts me out of the office and says that the lady at the reception will help me. So after this first appointment I patiently wait for the first trial lenses to arrive. It took 3 weeks for them to come. So I finally go and collect them and set up a second appointment to follow up which literally latest for less than two minutes. I came back next week as the vision with my left eye was blurry. When I tell the doctor about it he simply prescribes me a different brand of lenses. I request him to recheck my power of the eye and he again gets mad and ultimately never does the rechecking. So this cycle continues until I try two other brands and finally he reprimands me for not being satisfied with anything.
So the bottom line is that Dr. Tom is an extremely rude person and he absolutely doesn’t give a shit about his patients. Most horrible experience ever for me. All he want is money. So do yourself a favour and stay away from this place.

Excellent service, friendly staff, and convenient location. Dr. Jerry Tom is very kind and friendly. They will validate your parking in the lot behind Chipotle. Will definitely return, highly recommended!

I had a wonderful experience with Davis Optical Express. I have never had so much fun buying glasses and they are the nicest pair I’ve ever owned. Here’s some of the reasons why they are so great.
Speedy Service — They don’t advertise this, but Davis Optical may be able to make your glasses the same day. I called beforehand with my prescription to confirm that my prescription lens was in stock and was told that glasses could be made the same day. They make their glasses onsite, so there is a short turnaround time, even if you can’t get same day glasses.
Customer Service — I went to the store and the sales associate picked about 10 frames that she thought would look good on me. I tried on each frame 2 – 3 times while we narrowed it down to the perfect frame. The sales associate was very patient and seemed to enjoy helping me find the right frames to fit my tastes and lifestyle.
Also…Davis Optical does not file directly with the insurance company, so I had to pay up front. However, they filed an insurance reimbursement claim on my behalf.
No Pressure Sales — The sales associate wanted me to get glasses that I really like, that were in my budget. She did not try to persuade me to purchase additional unnecessary services.
Transparent Costs — The cost of the frame with a single standard lens is written on the corner of each pair glasses. Scratch protection and anti-​reflective coating is included in this cost. They also have a sign posted in the middle of the back of the store that provides a cost range for upgrades such as thinner lenses.

We love Dr Tom, he has been checking our eyes for years. The staff at Davis are helpful, we have always gotten good quality glasses that hold up. Love these guys.

My glasses had fallen apart. They repaired them for free on the spot. They are friendly and helpful.

I came in hoping that they could put back in a screw that fell out, causing the arm to detach. Not only did they briskly take my glasses back to work on re-​screwing the arm back on, they replaced the screw entirely because my original one wasn’t up to snuff, and cleaned the lenses and frames– and didn’t charge me! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service and the lack of cost. Definitely recommend this store if you need a quick repair done!

Went here to get contacts. Mine were fitted poorly and fall out constantly. Also, they charge me for a years worth of supply and with VSP, that take away from both your 2 credits you only get every two years. Not only did that take away my credits to get glasses, but I only got 1 years worth of supply of contacts for two years.
The doctors are dishonest and only out to make money, they do not care about their patients. This place is trash and disgusting as well.

I walked in today to schedule an exam & they told me that they take my insurance (which is a $ 10 copay for an eye exam) and then told me that I had to pay a $ 60 copay. When I inquired why I would have to pay $ 60 instead of the $ 10, the young receptionist lady responded with «oh you probably have to pay that too to your insurance or something…»
So needless to say, I told her that I would continue to look elsewhere for an optometrist.

I have to say that my experience with Davis Optical was wonderful! I gave them 5 stars because from the phone call setting up my appointment, to the reminder call to confirm my appointment, to the prompt (and kind) receptionist, to the eye exam (Dr. Tom courteous and explained everything as he did the exam,) to the Starbucks gift card they gave me on the way out made my visit easy and enjoyable. They were even able to put my prescription in my own glasses so I didn’t have to buy a new pair.

Terrible service! I saw Jerry Tom for an eye exam. He appeared extremely bored and uninterested in the health of my eyes. I didn’t even know his name (didn’t introduce himself to me!). The receptionist was also very rude. I only went here because they are close to UW campus and take student insurance. However, they’ve billed the insurance wrong and is not asking me to overpay!

I had a perfectly nice experience at Davis Optical Express. They are centrally located and Dr. Tom’s staff scheduled me quickly. Dr. Tom was courteous and explained everything to me since I was a first timer. I didn’t feel rushed. Dr. Tom didn’t engage me in long, drawn-​out conversations and didn’t have much small talk. But he was a very competent medical provider and his staff helped get my insurance processed, my order placed, and my paperwork completed quickly.
I found the pricing at Davis Optical to be extremely competitive. At least half the price of eyeglasses at Market Optical. I picked out frames and they had my glasses ready within 24 hours.
This place is independently owned, no flashy décor or gimmicky marketing. It’s a little shabby but their team seems highly qualified and their products were very reasonable. I highly recommend them!

People complain just to hear themselves complain! I’ve been going to Davis for 10 years now and have never had a problem. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

How can you ask a newble clerk to write my prescription? I know this just a copying job but this new girl (high school part-​time kid?) was like, «okay, so how do I???» «write negative 1.25 here?»
how are your patients gonna be confident when they see you asking a newble to write a prescription? And especially this newble is this young and does not have a mature skill? sigh.

I don’t understand the negative posts up here because I just went to see Dr. Tom for a routine visit today and I had a great experience, hands down.
The front desk staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They make the insurance process a breeze by walking me through my coverage to help me make the most of it and they also do the filing for you, so all you have to do is cover your co-​pay and that’s it.
When the doctor was running a few minutes late with a previous appointment, they kept me informed the whole time. Then after my appointment, they gave me free contact lens solution and a Starbucks gift-​card as a new patient! Bonus!
Dr. Tom was definitely professional and I didn’t feel rushed at all. He explained each procedure as we went along and made sure to ask me if I had any questions throughout. Overall, I was in and out in under an hour and received great service the whole time– from the doctor and his staff. I’ll definitely be back!

These four stars go primarily to Sandy, the really nice woman who helped me try on frames last week. (I’m still looking, going to check out Paris Miki in the ID next). She was very friendly, not pushy, and didn’t make fun of my current glasses, which have both arms broken off and were balancing on my nose. When I called back to get details on the model so that I could see if I could get it cheaper online, she didn’t give me any attitude about it – and today she took some pictures of me in the glasses so I could see how they compared with others that I’ll be looking at.
I will say that last time I was in there (when my glasses originally broke about a year ago – I got contacts in-​between, then got an eye infection, long story), the lady I talked to was a little snooty – I wasn’t dressed very well. But this time around things were great.
I haven’t used their optometrist, so I can’t comment on that. But as far as a place to buy glasses, it seems pretty nice.

HORRIBLE SERVICE — NASTY HUSTLING DOCTOR — AVOID!!!
After reading Ed’s review, I feel validated and quite confident in my view that yes, Optometrist Jerry Tom IS a huge jerk.
I was the first patient in the door — very quiet morning.
Tom seemed to have a pleasant enough manner but I quickly realized that he was attempting to hurry me. I asked a couple of questions — he ignored them or was downright rude. I told him I was confused by one of his 3-​word responses — and he refused to explain. It took me a good five minutes to get him to tell me what he meant. He was argumentative and just nasty!
I almost walked out of the appointment — not only because of his rudeness but I didn’t feel like I could trust him. It felt like he was hustling me. And like with Ed, he also had bad breath in my appointment
The desk help was nice, but from the moment I called to make an appt, they hounded me for my insurance info. I told them I was changing over to a new carrier and would have my new card at the appt, but they called me 3 times before this over a weekend, and requested it.

WORST OPTOMETRIST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
I went to this place because they: a) are near campus, b) take the grad student insurance, and c) are slightly cheaper than University Vision down the road. Big mistake. To cut to the end of the story, I ended up walking out of my appointment with no prescription and without paying.
To be fair, the receptionist was incredibly nice and polite and everything else. They also have a great candy bowl. I was 25 minutes early and she explained that the Dr was at the bank and would be back at my appointment time. No problem: I ate some M&M’s, went to the bookstore across the road, and came back 5 minutes before my appointment. I saw the Dr in the back and knew that there was nobody else there, but he still somehow came out to get me 15 minutes late. So, the badness starts here.
He took me back to the exam room, sat down, and in a very grumpy voice asked why I was there. Without going into a lot of detail, his responses to my questions were so short and rude that I very nearly walked out after 2 minutes. Basically, it was very clear that he was in a bad mood and really didn’t give a crap about my concerns about my prescription.
He may have picked up on my displeasure with his attitude and he adopted a sing-​song, I-couldn’t-care-less tone of voice for the actual examination. I am not a 7 year old and it made me want to vomit. He was flying through the different lenses so fast that I really couldn’t tell which was better than the other. I asked him to go back a couple of times and his annoyed exhale was clearly audible. At the end he was clearly getting tired of me and started actually giving me the answers to the different lenses. We actually did get to a pretty good final set (not perfect, but better than my old glasses) and he flopped back down onto his doctor’s stool.
Again, he resumed with the brush-​off to my questions. He was such an ass that I couldn’t help but tell him I wasn’t appreciating his tone and would really like it if he could be a bit more informative and helpful. He closed his folder and said something to the effect of «I’m sorry you don’t like your results and you can just leave if you’re dissatisfied.» So, I got up and left. He hurled a few very defensive comments my way as I was leaving.
Seriously, I’ve never met such a complete and total jerk of a doctor. It’s not like he even had any other patients there to rush off to, but he still slammed through the whole exam in about 4 minutes. If it hadn’t been for my questions I would have probably been out of there in under 5 minutes total.
My point: cough up the extra few dollars and go to some other optometrist. This guy completely and totally sucks. A total waste of time. OH YEAH, he also had stanky, stanky breath he kept blowing in my face.
