Consign Design

I recently moved and found it time to finally own some durable furniture. Tired of Ikea, yet balking at the exorbitant prices of furniture in designer stores, I decided to try consignment. Firstly, I’ll never buy furniture any other way. Secondly, Consign Design is a great consignment shop.
I picked up five major furniture pieces and a set of chairs here. They have some really good quality items, lots of hardwood. The staff is friendly and responsive. They are there to help, but not pushy. There website is also very useful. Great to check photos of items in stock before stopping by.
It’s a shame that my house will only fit so much.

After months and months of struggling to find one piece of furniture that would match the dreams I had and stand out in my apartment, I found this place (the one in Tukwila, for some reason I cannot find that one on Unilocal). Not much hopeful, I decided to go and check it out. There were some very beautiful pieces in this store, none of which looked used and worn out. I did not like every single item, but the ones I liked were clean, nicely reupholstered and one-​of-​a-​kind. I fell in love with two arm chairs and the owner «John» told us to just choose what we want and we can negotiate the price.
We ended up getting the armchairs for a very good price and John gave us free delivery. The armchairs were delivered next day even though the Seahawks were playing and I did not expect him to deliver them while the game was going on.
The reviews on Unilocal were only mediocre and I was really skeptical, but eventually I was really satisfied with my purchase, how professional and friendly John was and what a good deal I got the armchairs for. They seem to be of a really good quality and I hope they last a long time.
I might actually go check their Ballard location out to see if I can find some other unique furniture items.

As consignment shops go, this one is pretty top-​notch. Of course, the selection changes virtually daily, but overall they carry a decent selection of quality furniture at decent prices. The main ‘sales guy’ — an older gentleman, is very friendly, but never excessively pushy — it’s obvious he loves his job — which is really cool IMO. Have yet to buy anything here, but would definitely consider it — everything is quality and in great shape. Definitely worth a stop if you are shopping for furniture in the neighborhood IMO.

My new husband and I recently consolidated households and took his very nice bistro dining table set in to Consign Design in Tukwila, Wa.
We dropped it off in the middle of May, 2015 and never heard a word from them. In June I stopped by and was told the pieces had sold on June 13^th for about half of what the told us. I asked for a check and Pat said that john would be sending it soon. On July 13^th I called and spoke to John and asked that he mail the check. He said he would do it that day. It’s now July 18^th and still haven’t received the check.
They need to change their name to «We Design to Con You». They are dishonest, unreliable and unprofessional.

Review re: New store at South Center: John and Lynn are very friendly, store is nicely arranged and rearranged frequently with quality items. The book keeping is still in the 20^th century. The seller has to chase the progress of your furniture via phone calls (this always took a few calls as the info was never at their finger tips, I think they still write ‘lists’ in notebooks) once the furniture sells (you will only know if you call) then you have to follow up (in my case several times for EACH piece sold!) to get your check! All this calling (sometimes calls were not returned, so MORE calls needed) took TOO much of my time. They need to Improve book keeping and contact procedures.

Came here twice. The first time did not fall in love with anything but my husband did so we went back a few days later. That time we dug deeper and found many things. We spoke with the staff and got a great deal on a dining table, corner table and coffee table. We did not find matching chairs but they pointed us to a set we missed and they look great with the table. On our first visit we were followed around a lot but not so much the second time, which I prefer. The owner and Walter were pleasant to deal with.

I purchased some tropical salvaged hardwood bar stools from them. They were new and initially nice. But they split on me. Makes me think the quality wasn’t too good. So beware!

I had a very good experience with Consign Design. I found some really nice chairs at the store. I worked with Walter and he was both friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to go back to Consign Design or to recommend it to others.

You have to be either a buyer or seller in dealing with this business. I can see the ratings from buyers as being pretty spot on. However from a seller’s point of view there is much to be desired. First, they don’t seem particularly interested in acquiring new stuff; when I brought my items into their store it took a while for someone to notice me and then the transaction was a bit too informal. Second, notice the «sale prices» they advertise; I’m pretty sure as a buyer I didn’t authorize them to cut the price of my items and would have resented it if they had. Third, I went in today to reclaim my items since I hadn’t heard from them; it turns out that my items did sell. When I asked whether I’d get a notice I was told «you’ll get your money in 30 days if you come to claim it». I asked whether they would have told me about the sale and the response was «do you expect me to make 8,000 calls a month?» I said yes, I did. The owner then told me «you’d better find another place to do business.»
In this case, it’s more «sellers beware» than the old standard for buyers. While I knew they’d take a huge chunk out of the sales price for selling it for me — 55% — it still was sticker shock when I got the check. To his credit I did get paid right away.

I have been both a buyer and a seller at Consign Design, and have fared pretty well on both sides. They have an ever changing supply of gorgeous cabinets, tables and chairs, and other wood pieces, their strong suit as far as I am concerned. Of course, they have sofas, lamps and accessories as well. I sold some family pieces there, and I found that it is largely up to the seller to keep track of their items and ask for a check to be issued for sold pieces. They are not super speedy about issuing checks, but they do pay. They will reduce the price of your unsold items, so be aware. Everyone is pleasant, casual and helpful and I really like the stock and the shop. Fun and economical!

Sent a bunch of stuff to this shop yesterday. My stellar review is about Scott and his helper, the guys who came to my home and picked up the furniture that’ll soon be for sale at the shop. These guys came on time, assessed the work, got it all out of my home quickly and safely, saved my walls from dings and made me secure that my cargo would be well cared for en route. Only had one glitch: didn’t know the hauling needed to be paid for in cash. A trip to the local quick mart fixed that and they were on their way. Now all you Seattle bargain hunters: get your tails on into the store and buy up my stuff!

I love Consign Design. Good inventory, the selection is always different. Good prices for the condition of the furniture (good with some scratches/​wear). I’ve found a dining room table, dining room chairs, throw pillows. And have enjoyed looking at whatever is on the floor. The sales people are very helpful. I’ve found that other consignment shops are not as good (staff unhelpful, goods too pricey or goods that are scuzzy). I’m delighted Consign Design is here.

My sister recommended this place as they sell a nice assortment of furniture and accessories. I decided to consign thru them and they failed to return my call THREE times on status of sale/​s and mailing of payment. My fourth attempt was ‘not so nice’ so they responded diligently and mailed a check. I DO NOT recommend to consign through this place unless you want to wait forever to get paid. Most places send payment post-​sale — not Consign Design. Only pro is they did sell most of my stuff.

As with consignment/​thrift the selection here is hit and miss. They sell furnishings of all kinds including decorative elements like prints and stuff like that. Always, always ask about the price. They’re really good about working w u on price. Parking is easy. Great spirits tasting room right next door too at Sound Spirits!

So happpeeee I found this place! I’d been looking on Craigslist for a sofa for a while and wasn’t really pleased (surprised?!). Actually, it’s always when you can’t buy that there’s cool stuff on Craigslist. But as soon as I could afford a used sofa for under $ 300, all the options were super-​crappy.
Finally I found that this place posts its most recently stocked furniture online. By some miracle I found a sofa for about $ 220 that was probably that cheap because it was quirky — but it was my kind of quirky. It was a kind of light blue velvety sofa with an asymmetrical wave for the back. It was solid, no stains, no pet dander (not that they guarantee no pet dander). They have a delivery option for about $ 80, but I found some guys on Craigslist for $ 60. So, mission accomplished! Cute, moderately used sofa for under $ 300.
The customer service guys were really cool. They directed me to the sofa I was interested in and let me just hang out with it for a while (I’m allergic to cats, so I wanted make sure my throat didn’t start narrowing while sitting on it). They didn’t try to sell anything else to me, so our transaction was really quick and simple. I think the guy even gave me a $ 20 discount because I mentioned I found them online … so you might want to drop that while you’re buying :)

I could be seated or walk back and forth.

I used CD to sell a few pieces when I moved to Portland. I can understand the positive reviews — they are from the buyers. The initial process was terrific. Helpful, energetic, positive, excited about the high-​end pieces that I placed with them. I left town pretty quickly and the pieces hadn’t had time to sell.
Months later, I returned and called them when I got to town to ask if the pieces have sold. I was told I would get a return call and asked if they could do so quickly since I was going to only be in town for 48 hours.
Never got the call, so visited the store on my way out of town. None of my pieces were on display so I inquired again. After a 30 minute wait (the store was empty), I was permitted to talk to someone working on the computer in the office and was told that all but 3 of my pieces were sold, but that due to policy, they would not issue me a check for another 20 – 30 days. I asked where my remaining pieces were and got a shrug. I made sure they had my updated address and said I looked forward to the check
3 months later when I returned to Seattle again, I stopped in to ask about my check. They had never mailed it or made any attempt to call me. The 3 pieces previously in question were now marked «sold» with sale dates 2 weeks prior to my last visit where they were missing, but not sold. I got a partial check written for the initial pieces and had to return again for the remaining check.
What’s worse in all of this is that the pieces sold at a dramatically lower price than was set. This being the first time to consign something like this I thought that my price was my price and that they simply took their 55% share when it sold, but that they would call if they had to drop the price. Well, apparently their agreement states that they can drop the price significantly each month without any approval.
So, my most valued pieces — which I initially listed at $ 1,200 for the pair went for $ 250 which I received just over $ 100 when all was said and done.
I’m hopeful that the buyer is enjoying the pieces — my goal was to get them to a good new home at a fair price and to avoid the hassle of a Craigslist. After this experience it is clear to me that Craigslist would have been much less hassle and much more profitable a path for me.
I will never do business with CD again. I was shocked at how unprofessional they were — not forthcoming in their pricing policy, misleading and with poor followthrough on the state of my sale items and then delaying payment due to me by months which required me to physically visit the store and not leave until I received payment.

Definitely not great to consign things with. They ignore you when they owe you money. I really doubt I would consign there again, which makes me also not so keen on buying from them.

Consigners beware.
This may be a great store for the buyer, but as a seller you are made to feel as if you stole the items you want to consign.
We had several quality pieces damaged because of their «merchandising» (stacking things on each other)
This resulted in unsellable furniture or significantly reduced prices because of the DAMAGE THAT THEY CAUSED after we brought it there.
Older «has-​been» design staff stand in judgement as you present each piece for approval. We didn’t bring junk, it was good quality newer furniture. We left the store feeling as if we should have donated it to the Salvation Army instead… at least they say «thank you».
Additionally, it took four phone calls to get them to send checks after the items were finally sold.
Bad feelings all around.

Great experience again! At 8 months pregnant and in major nesting mode, I bought a dining table, 4 chairs, and a sofa here. They were very helpful and nice — the table and chairs were on sale for being slightly damaged (but in perfect working order — the chairs are comfy dining chairs that had some snags on the fabric and the table had a scratch on the surface) and the sofa is a beautiful dark blue Ethan Allan leather sofa that we got for a steal! The best part was that while I was trying to make a decision about the couch, they offered to let me take a cushion home with me to make sure the color would work with my stuff. I couldn’t believe it!
They have a great selection and provide great customer service. It’s my favorite place to look for furniture, hands down.
