Compass Café

Owners are changed and they are warm and nice. I had an iced vanilla latte. Its exactly how I wanted. Beautiful location for summers and spring.

Compass Café is inside the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), and while I was nervous about the insane prices (captive audience and all that), I’m pleased to say that they actually were very good! You can’t beat the views, and the staff are very friendly. So while the food is indeed overpriced for what you get, everything we ate was perfectly edible, and look, if you can’t enjoy a good snack and a coffee while you watch Kenmore Air do its thing on the lake in Seattle, I respectfully suggest you are incapable of having a good time. From glancing at the other reviews, looks like the food can be hit or miss — but mine was fine.

Love everything about MOHI except this café. They need to step it up. Food seemed spoiled in the refrigerated display case. Yuck. The views are incredible though so worth stopping in for a coffee.

I went in and ordered a Ham Sandwich on Baguette and a Rootbeer soda.
Someone had the sandwiches labeled incorrectly.
After receiving the correct sandwich I sat outside overlooking the Water and Seaplanes.
Couldnt of asked for a better sandwich on a better day.
The servers inside were great and personable.

Service was the only thing good about this place. We got a chicken salad and it seriously tastes like the veggies are rotten. And there is hair in my sandwich. Will not be back here, again. $ 21 dollars for old food with hair? No thanks. I’ll go to mcdonalds next time. Update: the $ 9.00 sandwich was refunded back to my bank. Although I was not at all happy with the food, they were kind about refunding the money for the sanwhich. Although I probably still won’t be back.

We stopped by this café after my first visit to MOHAI. I was pleasantly surprised how good this place was. I totally judged that food will be average and overpriced, but food was great! We had a tasty bacon and caramelized onion quiche, delicious slice of lemon poppy seed pound cake and a great cup of joe, all for under $ 15. The café is clean and service was quick. Nice open seating area outside facing Lake Union park, we felt comfortable dining in with our toddler. I’ll definitely go back when we visit Lake Union park again.

The food and coffee is good here. However, the help seems somewhat surly the two times I’ve come and at 10 in the morning they were out of some basic supplies like soy milk. Oh yes, no vegan food.

What an awful customer service. Considering this is a Jeff Bezos territory I expected a little better treatment. I walked in at 4:58 and the guy who was working there told me: excuse me can you please walk out I need to lock the door we are closing. This is just awful. I will never buy anything from there again.

This is a café as part of the Museum of History and Industry. I must say it’s pretty large for a café — seating capacity appears to be approaching 100 users. It’s more a like a small lunch hall. But any way — this place does have the standard café foods of drip coffee and an espresso machine. There are assorted pasta salads, pastries, and sweets that are in the glass case in the front of the café. They do have plenty of foods for the little ones as well, such as hot dogs, mac and cheese.
The décor of the place is geared towards efficiency and functionality, and ease of clean up; beneficial considering the amount of little kids that can be here. The chairs and tables are moveable, so if need be, a large party can combine multiple sets of tables for a nice break. One item I didn’t see is high chairs — but then again, I wasn’t actively looking for ones either.
I was content with my cup of coffee and a few minutes to sit at a table and to think for a moment. Outside of the Café is Lake Union Park; after spending all day indoors looking in the museum, it’s refreshing to refuel and then go proceed outdoors.

Good food in a museum? It happens here. My wife and I finished touring the museum and we were both hungry. We debated finding some place to eat or trying Compass Café. It is run by Northwest Catering whom I had never heard of. If the food in any indication of what they usually make, I would certainly think of them for a catered event, it was good. We had two of their salad selections. I had thought of a grilled sandwich, but I need to watch the carbs and stick with whole grains and they only had white bread. That is why they only get 3 stars.

Run by the good folks at Northwest Catering, this is actually a very, very good place. Way above the usual Museum fare. It is located right in the spectacular MOHAI. And is the perfect spot for quick bite in that amazing new park out there.
We had the wine which was very reasonable during happy hour and also some of the appetizers. The soup was delicious and fresh and the sandwiches were as well. We will have to get out there again next time we are MOHAI.

Came in with my husband on or way to MOHAI. When we walked in there was nobody at the front counter. We could hear complaining loudly in the back. I’ve worked a lot of food service and one of the first rules is not to leave the front unattended and if you must– do so only briefly. We stood there for about 3 – 5 minutes and when the girl came out to help us, she didn’t acknowledge how long she had kept us waiting.
I ordered an iced tea and the girl filled it about ¾ of an inch from the top of the glass. The container she was filling it front was nearly empty and instead of tipping it to speed up the process, she stood there all angsty– only tipping it for the last dregs. Somewhere in the filling/​paying process, a guy came out from the back and complained about how much food there was to stock.
The iced tea was bitter– it tasted over brewed. So I paid for a not exactly full bitter iced tea from an equally bitter worker. Sweet deal. Next time we’ll just bring our beverages with us.
