How important is the architect in the «I’m going to build a house from scratch and I have never done this before» process? VERY. I would say it’s the most important decision you will make.
My wife and I interviewed five architects/​firms before choosing chadbourne + doss and during the interview process AND the building of our house we were struck by several things that set chadbourne + doss apart.
— You get a team. It’s almost like hiring two for the price of one.
— They don’t always agree. Which is good! If chadbourne + doss work it out, odds are super high you and your partner won’t need to rehash this very same issue. That was the case with us most of the time.
— Their attention to detail was incredible. Of course architects are supposed to listen but not all do. And not all actually take into account all that they hear. The design process started with an extensive survey that we each had to complete. Be honest — it will pay off in the end.
— In addition to aesthetic options we were also offered budget options to spend more AND to spend less. They really have the customer’s best interest and budget at heart.
— At times during the construction process we needed an advocate and chadbourne + doss were exceptional in this role.
I’m the kind of guy that begrudgingly spends money on any home improvement project (so many things to buy you did not think of!) or house purchasing endeavor (so many fees!) but I am happy with every dime we spent on chadbourne + doss.
When you spend this much time working with people on a project that you are going to be intimately connected with for many years to come you want to have a good relationship with those people. My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the relationship with, the service from, the value of and the quality of chadbourne + doss.
