Centerpoint Institute for Life and Career Renewal

Waste of my time and $ 400.
I went to their one-​on-​one career services with 2 different people: once with the founder of Centerpoint and one with their career counselors. The hourly rate they charged me I believe was $ 90 or so. I think I went 4 – 5 times. It was completely ineffectual for me because in hindsight my resume still sucked after having them look at it and as a result I couldn’t get any interviews.
One observation in hindsight I made: The counselor lady seemed like she wasn’t in the best position to advise anyone: if I remember correctly, she lost her job after about 20 years. To me, she seemed quite bitter about it. Which I think means that either she didn’t like her job for 20 years before joining Centerpoint, did a bad job at her old job, or a combination of both. I should have left then and there when I heard that due to her lack of credibility. I hope you guys find better help, because it’s really important to consult someone when you are really vulnerable with job search and transitions.
The fact that they did not see some obvious gaps that I see now (with a help from my current girlfriend who is an expert at finding jobs) makes me quite angry. I want my money back.

I just had to counter the one Unilocal review that was posted here. I used Centerpoint’s services on three different occasions – I attended their Life Work Renewal workshop, their Retreat, and a Passion Search program. Each program was better than weeks of therapy for me, and tangibly helped me with both my personal and professional needs at each stage I used their services. I have never made a better investment with my time and money than in using Centerpoint’s offerings and getting to work with their talented staff. They helped first with workaholism and helping me understand a cycle of change that continues to be a touchstone for me; they next helped me get clarity to leave a job that defined me and opened the door to a whole new series of personal and professional opportunities and greater satisfaction; they finally helped me envision a life as a freelance lawyer working in education, and I am doing exactly that now. I cannot recommend their services more strongly, if you are ready to do the challenging personal work necessary to achieve meaningful change and professional and personal satisfaction.

I still think every week about how much money I spent on counseling here, and how ineffectual it was. I do hope that others benefit, but if you are not flush with cash it might be advisable to try a career guidance book or two first.
