Calamity Jane’s

I heard this place is closing! Could it be true? Have some friends that are going to be devastated to hear it, Calamity Jane’s is their favorite after-​work dinner spot. Go back while you still can!

All I need to say: Mac n Cheese and a Grilled Cheese side.
The Mac n Cheese comes with a side salad topped with a roquefort bleu cheese dressing that I highly recommend. Deee-​lish! The Mac n Cheese is very rich and filling, so plan to take most of it home. It’s great the next day, too!
The Grilled Cheese comes on thick sliced bread, grilled to perfection, and perfectly cheesey!
The menu in whole looks amazing and I’m looking forward to trying out some more items, if I can get over the Mac n Cheese.
The staff was fantastic. Our server was friendly and gave us some pointers for ordering. The bar staff was also friendly and chatted us up when most of the bar emptied and before the second wave of customers came in.

Loved it! The cornbread pancakes with tangy pomengranite molasses sauce before their delicious macaroni & cheese shouldn’t be allowed! Down home goodness!

There are few kid friendly restaurants in Georgetown. Several families were having lunch when we came on Saturday. The food was average diner food, and the wait staff was friendly.

We’ve been coming to CJs for a few years now — it’s a regular for us when we hit Georgetown. Highly recommended.
We’ve had great luck with the food. To name a few items:
* The mac & cheese is the best we’ve found in the city.
* The corned beef hash is also the best we’ve found in the city.
* Great French toast.
* Good burgers.
* The banana pudding!
Glad to have the Georgetown beers on tap. We’ve always had great service, and we’ll keep coming back.

Working late on a weeknight night, I looked for a dinner place in Georgetown and found Calamity Jane’s boasting dinner and late nights. The menu looked good enough that my co-​worker and I went.
It’s a small place with décor reminiscent of a western saloon and with tree slab tables wooden floors in the dining area. The friendly waitress offered us our choice of tables and we perused the menu. They have daily specials of soups and sandwiches as well as the house specials and gluten free choices as well.
I had the Shepard’s Pie and my co-​worker had the daily sandwich and soup, upgrading it to the Clam Chowder. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. At $ 10.xx I expected the Shepard’s pie to be half /​two-​thirds the size of the platter that came. It was baked in the dish and came out piping hot.
My co-​worker enjoyed his sandwich thoroughly and the clam chowder had more potatoes and clam than soup. Interestingly enough, they offer chips or cheetos as well.
Definitely a place to return to for lunch or dinner if working late again — if this first visit was anything to go by.

I went to CJ’s on a Sunday around 11am.
As soon as we walked in, the waitress did not even make eye contact with me and my friend and tried to sit us in the bar. We did not want to sit and the bar so she sat us down in the non bar-​side. She slaps the menus on the table and leaves. I think to myself what?!
I ordered the Johnny Cakes, that were a tad bit burnt and dry. My friend ordered some grits and ham. She said the grits were too salty.
Overall, I got this unwelcoming vibe from all the servers. The breakfast was definitely not worth it. Not going back, sorry!

This is probably more of a 3.5 star review, but alas. I cannot bring myself to bump it up to four.
Calamity Jane’s is a cute little spot — saloon like bar area, small dining area, fun quirky art work always lining the walls… not to mention the whiteboards in the bathroom stalls so you can doodle while you. Well. Just be sure you all are washing your hands after –ok? (That should be a no brainer regardless of sketches or not).
Tap List is pretty much limited to 4 Georgetown Brewing taps. And yeah, I get that they are right down the street but. Eh. Something different to shake it up maybe?
Food wise — standard sort of diner grub. Sandwiches, giant hamburgers, and pretty damn tasty shepard’s pie, what have you. The couple times I have been here, my burger was not cooked to the done-​ness I wanted (overcooked sadly, wah wah), had way too much of their home-​made mustard. And I have to pout at the cop out that a side of chips or cheetos are with most dishes. Their pulled pork sliders are a surprising win in my book
As another plus, they have fun events here from bingo to burlesque.
Service is friendly, laid back, and sassy in the charming Georgetown way.
Cute, basic. An alright place by me.

I had the Jane burger with cheddar and bacon the other night. LOVED IT!!! It’s a little overpriced to me but the food is really good. Also I liked the art they had for sale on the walls. I think it’s local art. And great music selection. (Mos def!) I’ll be back to try the daily specials.

I’m bamboozled by the fact that I hadn’t previously visited Jane’s. The food is delicious, the atmosphere and décor are VERY entertaining (current exhibit is Transformers art, for real? LOVE!) and prices are reasonable.
I enjoyed the Cottage Pie, made vegan with the removal of cheese, and my beau enjoyed the open-​faced meatloaf, a HUGE, hearty serving of peppery meat and potatoes.
Good beers on tap and straightforward, attentive service. Our buddy brought her baby, and we were totally comfortable in the main dining space.
There is parking just south of the building and happy hour until 6pm. Yes, please!

I was here for bingo night for a charity and it was so much fun! It’s was a great way of enjoying couple of beers, while raising money for charity. During bingo, the entire bar, and restaurant was filled, every seat in the house was taken, with people ranging from young twenties to middle age. The hostess calling out the bingo numbers is quite a character — kept the crowd entertained and kept the event proceeding well.
The restaurant section is a respectable layout with furniture and décor — nothing that I was drawn too. The art on the wall was visually entertaining, but I was here for bingo, so I didn’t pay too much attention to it. Service is respectable — but I think the staff was a bit flustered for bingo night. I think one more person would have eased their concerns.
In any case — it was fun to get a couple of drinks and play bingo, and I’ll be sure to stop in again for another bingo event, or for a couple of drinks if I’m in this area of Seattle again.

I could go on and on and on about how horrible the service and food was at this place. Absolutely disgusting. Salty mess. Waitresses act like they’re queen Beyonce or something uhhm NOT.
Empty on weekdays and theres no wonder why. Plus the place was kind of dark and I couldn’t get a view of what I was consuming but shrimp and grits is an absolute NO. NEVER AGAIN. This place should just close the doors. I hate to see a small business get such a bad review but cmon yall can do SO much better than this.
Based on a lot of other reviews you should know all of this by now.

Like a lot of places in Georgetown, these guys have dialed in exactly how they want to present themselves, such that as soon as you walk in you know you’re going to like it. Well, I suppose that varies by taste, but it’s hard to imagine who wouldn’t immediately draw a good vibe from this place.
Also fitting the neighborhood aesthetic, this is an old building that has been restored and revived in place. The little wooden patios by each door evoke the 19^th century as much as anything in this young city can; the floorboards look like they have multiple decades of weathering on them. You feel like you’re stepping up slightly into the past as soon as you lift your foot.
Inside there’s a dining room to the right where all ages are welcome, and a bar to the left. They flow together through a big opening, and the tables (along with the foodservice) spill well into the bar area. There’s a big barback that looks vintage, though not 1800s. The liquor is basic, the wine list is super short, and there are just a couple of faucets for beer. There are a few more beers in bottles behind the bar.
Where this place starts really getting good, though, is the staff. They’re all super nice, happy to work there, friendly, and all over it with the menu and tap list. They have that knack for making service questions (about what you’re ordering, etc.) feel like conversation, so you feel like you’re in someone’s home instead of in a business.
I came in for breakfast during a poster exhibition that was part of Sub Pop’s Silver Jubilee. Massive ups to these guys for supporting the music scene this way, actually. Lots of amazing Justin Hampton prints on the walls. The breakfast was pretty spectacular, actually – corned beef hash with cubes of real brisket. A little on the juicy side until the potatoes absorbed the runoff… but that just made it deliciouser.
It’s not a big place, nor new. But the bathrooms are clean and up to date, if not ultra-​modern. The tables and chairs are all wildly mismatched, which adds to the homey feel. There’s nothing here that makes you feel overcharged or put off at all. Everything about it feels like it’s a place designed and operated by people who wanted to create a place where THEY would like to go out. I will definitely be back.

I was hoping to come back and update my review (since it had been several months since my last visit and three years since my last review), but I had my dog with me. Unfortunately, Calamity Jane’s doesn’t allow dogs to sit out on the patio… bummer. The staff was extremely friendly and recommended Stellar Pizza, just down the street, and I’m so glad they did! I had a great meal and was thankful not to have to leave my dog in the car.
Of course, the downside to that is that now that I’ve been to Stellar Pizza, I need to adjust my star ranking for Calamity Jane’s anyway. Calamity Jane’s provides a solid meal and a nice enough atmosphere, but it’s not my favorite in the neighborhood and I haven’t had anything on the menu that warrants a special trip.

In an attempt to find a quick bite to eat before heading off to the Boeing Flight Museum for the First Friday, a quick Unilocal search led us to Calamity Jane’s right in time for Happy Hour.
The place was deserted, and the waitress was friendly, the sliders were great and the wings were gross. They apparently don’t have a fryer, so the wings were actually pretty gross. I sent them back and was still charged for them, even after politely mentioning how we didn’t like them, at all. And when more than half of them were left. They were tiny, the «buffalo» sauce overwhelming, and stained my hands and the chicken was a little smelly.
All-​in-​all, if you’re here for the sliders and the cheap beer, it won’t be so bad. The drink specials sound pretty good, the place is spacious, kitschy in a cute way. I did not appreciate the dead flies and spiders in the window though… especially since we had the table by the window…

Open Sundays! Unlike several other places in Georgetown.
Went here for a bite to eat before heading to a bar for a friends birthday party so we had 45 minutes to eat before having to leave.
There was only us and one other table. The service was so slow for how dead it was, our water glasses were left unfilled and we waited 15 minutes to order.
I got the wings with the hot sauce on the side. They were a little burnt.
I don’t remember what my husband ordered but he got a side of mac and cheese with it that was very small for the price you pay, and not very impressive flavor-​wise.
It was happy hour so it was about a dollar off drinks and my wings were cheap.

Cottage Pie is bombtastic here. The bowl is so huge of it, you can get in it and row home in it later. And I’m sure their other food is great (they have an all-​you-​can-​eat spaghetti night on Mondays [?] and a diverse bar menu – prices are on the odd cent. $ 10.73 for your Cottage Pie!)
To add to the quirkiness of this place, they serve Cheetos as a sides option. The crunchy kind!
Oh, that Cottage Pie. If you like Shepard’s Pie, but don’t eat meat, this is what you need in your life. Seasoned lentils, al dente carrots, hunks of shitake mushrooms, zucchini – all under a giant mound of cauliflower mashers. I liberally put their Aarvdvark habanero sauce all of it (it’s not spicy, but has good flavor) and pack up the 2^nd half for a meal the next day. The other night, our table had biscuits and gravy, and BBQ sliders. My friend really liked the BBQ sliders and the biscuits and gravy were good.
If you come in for drinks, they mean business. Strong cocktails. Recently, I tried a gluten-​free beer they had called New Planet. It was bitey in a good way! SO much better than other GF beers I have tried.
Don’t forget that they have a small outside area in back. It feels like you are in somebody’s back yard – nice and cozy.

«5 shots of Fireball please.» That’s pretty much how it started here at Calamity Jane’s.
Like many other nearby spots in Georgetown, this bar has tons of character. With funky art on the walls, great HH pricing (PBR Tallboys are just $ 1.50!) and tasty food, you can’t go wrong here. Word has it that the chicken wings and pulled pork sliders are awesome. I also spotted gyoza that looked pretty awesome. I’ll have to try the food next time because this occasion called for liquids only. The bartender was kind, he was quick and we all laughed at our poor decision making skills when ordering Fireball instead of something a little finer. But it was really fun and just that quick interaction made me want to come back to eat and stay a little longer. If you’re in the area this ought to be a stop on your crawl!

Tucked away towards the end of Georgetown is this wonderfully eclectic and delicious eatery. They do a great job combining America (New) with Southern comfort food, a unique amalgamation. We had fun playing around with the toy tanks on the bar and the local brews. We had the most delicious Lamb Tangine: great Mediterranean flavored and braised well.
Definitely want to try this place for brunch. They offer some amazing cocktails and, rumor has it, a peanut butter bacon burger to die for.

Georgetown is a pretty cool place, eh? Hit this establishment toward the end of our stay, but we all liked it. The weather was slammin’, so we went out to their outdoor courtyard in the back & ordered a round from our super nice server.
As we chit chatted with her, she filled us in on how they just started showing movies in the courtyard on Saturday nights. So cool! We were hours from darkness, so it wasn’t in the cards, but I’d love to come back here and check it out sometime.
Oh, and I loved the art in here.
