I ordered a breakfast sandwich here and the egg whites were so overcooked they were inedible. They had the consistency of hard plastic. The coffee may be good(I don’t know as I didn’t try any), but I don’t recommend this place based on their food.

Decent little coffee shop on the border of Magnolia and Ballard neighborhoods. Very close to the Fisherman’s Terminal. Good coffee selection, morning pastries. A few breakfast sandwiches as well. Big space with a piano! They also roast here, which I believe is the main business. The neighborhood coffee shop(Discovery Espresso and Juice) is closed Sundays so we popped in here for some road trip coffee.

EDIT: Unfortunately like many others the slow service and burnt coffee has started to happen more frequently and I will most likely not be back. You would think a place that roasts their own beans would have skilled employees. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — I live near this café and it’s really convenient as there aren’t many coffee places on the Interbay side of Magnolia. I definitely wouldn’t say they’re the fastest and I’ve gotten an iced latte when I ordered an iced mocha but overall they’re pretty good! They sometimes create different whip creams for their coffees and they made a lavender blackberry whip that was delicious! They have a great staff and a lot of parking. I agree with another reviewer that they are pretty slow and it looks like from the drive thru they have one person making coffees and another working the register and another that flutters around doing misc. stuff.

i rarely write reviews, however ive tried to give this place a chance several times and consistently the coffee is burnt and service is slow. This will be my last encounter. The slowest moving baristas, and a dysfunctional setup make things syrup slow.

Magnolia’s best kept secret. Watch the roasters roasting fresh coffee beans as you savor the succulent espresso or coffee drinks. Usually quite empty, comfortable inside tables, nice outside umbrellas table area.

This is a cute coffee shop that has a decent amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. It’s awesome that you can look through the windows to the roastery and actually watch them work back there! The breakfast foods looked amazing but all I had was a cold brewed coffee which was delightful. Decent amount of parking outside.

A cappuccino or a cup of liquid cardboard? Everything I’ve tried here is flavorless.

RECOMMENDATIONS: I like medium/light coffees, so I really like the Beethoven, but if you like darker roasts their Bluff blend is great, too. Also, try their white coffee! Tastes like Chinese Green bean soup! I took my boyfriend here for a tour of Café Appassionato’s roastery(thanks Groupon!). I came knowing it would take about two hours, seriously wondered what the heck we’d be doing for such a long time, but little did I know that the two hours would fly by and we would have a blast the entire time. The pace of the tour was perfect. We didn’t feel rushed, but it was never boring either. We learned so much about roasting coffee, saw the roasting in action, which was awesome. and got to try so much amazing coffee! Thank you so much Kurt for your time, the amazing tour, and the coffee! We would highly recommend coming here for the coffee. I didn’t know about Café Appassionato before the tour, but it has become one of my favorite coffee places. If you’re far away, pick up a bag of their beans at QFC!

Amazing! My fiancé brought me here for a surprise tour of the café. Our tour guide and«coffee connoisseur» Kurt was awesome. I thought I knew coffee until this tour and my knowledge of it grew within that hour of the tour. We had so much fun. And not only that — the coffee is DELICIOUS. I went home with so many different types coffee to try — I’m still on my first batch of k-cups. Yep. You heard it — they are now making K-CUPS! Such delicious coffee in a convenient way. We had such a great great time and I really wish I lived closer to the café. Its great to know I can pick up their beans at QFC though. I would recommend this place to my friends, for a tour of just to stop by and have some coffee. It’s a beautiful place and their outside patio is lovely as well. Thanks Kurt for all your help and the lifetime supply of coffee ;)

This is such a convenient location for me… and… that’s about the extent of it. The coffee is not any better than your average Starbucks. The service can, on occasion, be good. Are people not taught customer service skills?

I like this Appasionato. I like it a latte!(Yeah, bad pun, I know). I came here recently with my aunt to catch up on some chit chat and get some vitamin D in their outdoor seating area. The coffee is some of the smoother I’ve had in the Seattle area, and the ladies working knew my aunt and immediately asked if I was family. Smaller size selection of pastries, but what they had was good. I like the drive through set up. Although we were hanging out, our coffee was still made quickly. Definatley stop by if you’re in the Magnolia/Interbay/Queen Anne area.

This is a great place, the coffee is terrific, the staff is helpful and welcoming and the atmosphere just what a third place should be. They roast coffee on site so you can watch and smell this through the windows. It’s a great place to meet up with friends but can get very busy on the weekend days with families so it gets loud. There’s a loyal following and you can often see the owner strolling in and out and smiling at patrons. This is a family owned business a family that lives in Magnolia. It’s the only place in Magnolia I’d go for coffee, I prefer to support the smaller places than the huge chain places. The staff seems happy so they must be treated right. The other thing going for it is that it’s less a tech hub and more a gathering place for old school face to face encounters. There aren’t tons of people with laptops and earphones it’s more a coffee shop in the true sense of the word. I detest going into a place where everyone is tuned into whatever and tuned out of the present now. Give it a try I’ll bet you will become a fan!

This is a really cool coffee shop with a nice Seattle feel to it. The drip coffee and cappuccino were tasty and they clearly use quality beans. The cappuccino had a large mound of foam on top that I am not too fond of, but it was still enjoyable. There was no artful heart or flower on the top, but that is not needed for good coffee. I like latte art because in order to pull it off you need a thin topping of foam and perfectly frothed milk. The service was great, and the hidden drive-through is a nice addition. I also love the huge roaster at the front entrance. I’ve only been here once, so I’m just going to hope they actually use it to roast their own coffee.

I spent my Thanksgiving break at my aunt’s place in Magnolia, and after all the turkey and cranberry sauce had disappeared, everything went back to regular weekday routine. Once everyone had left the house for work, I decided to take my poetry notebook, find a coffee shop to sit in and write until everyone returned that evening. Caffe Appassionato is hidden behind some lovely trees, but it’s a hidden gem. I fell in love with it straight away. There’s a garden in the front with a trellis, with seating available there as well, though it was quite chilly that day so I ventured inside to take advantage of the warmth. It was relatively empty when I walked in, and the baristas were warm and genuinely friendly. I ordered a hot chocolate(with the perfect amount of whip, I might add) and found a perfect spot by the windows to sit. The atmosphere was welcoming, and homey, and a perfect place to settle down and write a few angsty poems. It is obvious that is a local spot, a few of the customers recognised each other and would greet each other. I noticed immediately that they had a beautiful piano. I was aching to play it(my school, sadly, does not have many well-tuned pianos available for students to play) but I was too nervous to ask; plus, more people were filtering in and it was getting busier and busier. I eventually moved to the bar stools and struck up conversation with the baristas. I mentioned the piano and they were completely open about me playing it, and I played for about an hour before deciding to go home(it was getting dark). Everyone really enjoyed it and they invited me to play again, an offer I might actually take up if I’m ever back in the area. Thank you for a wonderful experience, and for not judging me on all the whipped cream I was consuming.

They have great coffee and friendly employees. The service can be glacial sometimes so be prepared for that. It’s a cute building and the coffee is excellent. Baked goods are so so.

I come here a lot because it’s close to my job site, but it’s not my favorite coffee place by far. Pros: –Get the breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Mmmmmmm!!! Takes a while to make, but it’s so worth it. –Lots of parking! –Lots of seating Cons: –Somewhat moody staff… –Slow service — The coffee has tasted burned more than a few times — Doesn’t open until 7am
