History

Established in 2009.

Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry was started as a result of connections to African gemstone dealers and artisans. Our focus is to use a portion of our profits to help establish and develop self-​sustaining orphanages worldwide.

Mentored by George Smith from Phil’s Jewelry in Ballard, we are committed to carrying on the 35 year Phil’s tradition of quality fine jewelry products and caring customer service in a brand new way!

«I started Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry after traveling to Kenya and Tanzania, East Africa to do HIV/​AIDS education. Through all the malnutrition, disease, famine and lack of education, I saw kids who were not only struggling to survive, but striving to live. I believe the future of any community lies in the care and continual support of the children, many of whom around the world no longer have anyone they would call family. It is time for the jewelry industry to step up and start supporting the communities from which it obtains much of its precious minerals from. I hope Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry will be leading the way!»

Our experience with Jamie was fantastic. We found Baraka after we had visited a couple other jewelry stores around Seattle looking at engagement rings, and it was like a breath of fresh air. There was no pressure, no pushing the budget, just a willingness to help us find what we were looking for.
Jamie walked us through the entire process of creating an engagement ring. He was able to show us a selection of diamonds in our price range and ultimately helped us find the perfect one. He was then able to provide a selection of settings that would fit the stone, which was great to see. After deciding on the setting, Jamie arranged for the stone to be set and the ring to be sized quickly. The ring came out magnificent, absolutely stunning, and fits perfectly.
Without a doubt, I would recommend Baraka Gems to anyone in the market for fine jewelry.

I am recently engaged and my fiancé got a ring that was too large. I didn’t want to go to a big box jeweler to get it resized, so I found Baraka on Unilocal.The reviews on this jewelry shop (and Jamie the owner) are 100% accurate — I had such an enjoyable experience there! I came in on Sunday, Jamie was very kind and helpful — he gave us a ton of information on the ring and made sure I was sized accurately. He promised to have it done soon, but with it being the holidays and all, wasn’t sure if he could get it done before Christmas (which we didn’t expect him to). But he came through and my ring was perfectly sized in two days! When we came back in, we were so thrilled it happened so quickly — and even more thrilled at the price! Very reasonable and exactly what he quoted us at. I’m super impressed with him and will be a customer for life!

First time buyer with Baraka here. I originally found Baraka on Etsy while shopping for rings in Seattle. I found two rings that really caught my eye and called to ask if I could come in and check out them in person. They quickly put the rings on hold and I came into the shop the next day. I was very impressed with the quality of both rings and amazed at how the pictures didn’t do their beauty justice (despite how detailed they were). Needless to say, I narrowed down my choice and found the perfect ring. They re-​sized the ring for me and delivered the ring a few days after the original purchase. The shop is beautiful, the employees are extremely helpful and down to earth, and I will definitely be back for future jewelry!

Jamie was great and very knowledgeable. I had a ring repaired for my wife a year ago at a so called jewelry repair in the Northgate Mall (starting with S — stay away in my opinion, a ripoff). Back to Baraka — due to the great reviews we had read about Baraka, we chose to go with him. Jamie sat down with us and explained all our options for the ring to be re-​repaired. It was the best thing we could have done. The ring turned out perfect. And we now have a great new friend in the jewelry business.

I came in to get my engagement ring sized. Jamie was very thorough with letting me know the risks working on my ring. I was always in the loop and the end result was amazing. My ring came out even better than expected so my fiancée and I are extremely happy we came to Baraka! The cherry on top was when we learned how Baraka works toward building orphanages in west africa. Not only is it Baraka an amazing local jeweler with the nicest people, but they’re also working towards making a difference in the world.

Jamie was super helpful locating a necklace with my daughter’s birth stone on it. He has a wide selection, excellent customer service, and great prices. However, my favorite part about Baraka is Jamie’s focus on helping those less fortunate through fundraising and sponsorship of rural communities around the world.
If you’re looking for something in particular, I highly recommend calling or stopping by to see what he can do for you.

My fiancé bought a gorgeous engagement ring for me off of Etsy, but he ordered it a size too large (whoops!). So, we were looking around for jewelers that would size the ring down for a reasonable cost, and we found Baraka.
Not only is the shop very nicely kept, but the staff is super knowledgeable and willing to help with any concerns you have about any jewelry (not just rings). They also have beautiful showcases with their jewelry for sale, but they are not pushy at all about you purchasing something. In fact, I am sure if you just went in to look around and ask some questions, they would be happy to just chat with you.
All other jewelers we went to were over $ 100 to resize the ring, and Baraka charged half of what others were charging. Plus, their communication is fantastic and they will polish any ring you get resized by them, at any time, for free. That’s kind of awesome since I don’t keep jewelry cleaner at home and don’t really want to.
I would recommend this place anytime and every time for someone who needs an important piece of jewelry to be resized or just cared for. We may even come back to get our wedding bands here.

Oh, please. Do they really imagine that we won’t compare offers from another dealer? Or that after they try lowball us, we won’t tell anyone else about it?
Took a couple of pieces of jewelry into Baraka a few days ago. They offered $ 244 for them, and warned me that the price of gold was going down (so I better take their offer?).
Today, I took them into another shop, and they gave me $ 420 for the same two items, and the second place avoided acting like they were of some higher caste than I am.
There’s a sign in Baraka that states that they give 10% of their sales to an orphanage in Africa.
Really? May I see evidence of that? I am leaning toward not believing that claim.

Jamie really knows his stuff. I brought in 15 pieces of antique jewelry for appraisal. Not only did he do a great job with the appraisals and photography, he first went thru it all and told me which pieces were not worth the cost of appraising them, saving me hundreds of dollars. Highly recommend!

I’ve had a couple old rings appraised at other jewelry stores and pawn shops. For what they offered, I’d say the owner here goes above and beyond to give you the fairest price. It’s evident that he’s experienced and has a nack for the demand for what he buys. The pieces available are also gorgeous and decently priced: D
While he was appraising my rings, he was humble in talking about his business and his work with building an orphanage in Kenya.
Coming here is an overall low threat and no pressure experience. There’s a nice selection of jewelry if you’re in the market and you’ll get a fair amount back compared to what other businesses would give you.
Don’t waste your time at other jewelry stores, pawn shops, or buy back business. There’s a reason Baraka has a collection of pretty much perfect 5 star reviews.

I contacted Jamie via email to request a quote to mount a loose marquise cut moissanite in a semi-​mount and an appraisal for the finished ring. I was given a ballpark quote that was competitive and brought the piece (s) in the next day. Although turn around time was not especially quick (about 10 days), I was pleased with the workmanship for setting the stone and thought that the appraisal seemed true to the piece’s value.
Jamie seems to be running a wonderful little store, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return for any future needs.
