Holiday Inn Express At Monterey Bay

I made our reservation on Hotwire so I got a great price. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean. We reserved two rooms, my husband noticed very quickly the large gap between the top of the door and the frame in the first room. I was hoping it was just our room and maybe we could ask to be moved, but the other room had a huge gap as well. Anytime anyone walked by the room, it sounded like they were in the room with you. The beds and pillows were so uncomfortable and the blankets were all very thin. For the one night stay and the price we paid it was tolerable, but I would have been very upset had I been stuck there for longer than that.

I searched all the available lodgings in Seaside for our special weekend. We have stayed in the Monterey area many times and just wanted to see what was available. When we read the reviews for the Holiday Inn Express It seemed like a good fit for us. Made the reservation online through their website. Now for the good part! When we checked in, we were told that I had actually made the reservation for the Holiday Inn in Seaside, Oregon. My error. The staff was amazing. They called the Oregon Holiday Inn, canceled my reservation and then scrambled to find us an equivalent room. On short notice. Given this is super bowl weekend and the ATT golf tournament is next weekend they are booked. Somehow they got us a room at a very reasonable rate. Saved the day. Their attention and service was exceptional. When stuff happens and people step up and put forward an exceptional effort to fix a problem… they have my loyalty and my business. So I booked this room for one night off Expedia. The hotel is going under some renovations out side but that didn’t distract me from going inside. Jessica greeted us when we walked in. Checking in was a breeze! They had warm chocolate chip cookies in the lobby for the guest.
My father and daughter said that they were awesome! Went to our room, which was two double beds we walked in and the room was very neat and clean. Smelt like they used a bunch of bleach which is and was a plus. The beds are so comfy I wish I could talk it home. The property was very quiet last night which was shocking for a weekend.
I would like to praise Jessica, last night my daughter needed some Tylenol they didn’t have any in their little store, but she told my daughter that she would look to see if they had some and she would call the room in 10 minutes. Well 10 minutes pasted and my daughter let to go back down stairs and Jessica called the room to say she went out to go get her some since she was almost off work. The security guard was going to bring it but my daughter beat him to the punch! That was a selfless act. I know most hotel employees wouldn’t go out their way to do something like that! Thank you Jessica that was sweet!!!
All and all we will be back this is a nice establishment! The view is nice also!

Not the newest Interior décor but well cared for. Their Breakfast is by far one the best I’ve had at a hotel. Much more selection options and great taste. The food alone made this a 5 star experience but by doing so I may have mislead another reader. But 3 stars is good enough.

We didn’t expect much when we booked the hotel but it was totally okay for the price. It’s noisy because it’s right next to the freeway so don’t forget to bring earplugs. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was great, especially the Cinnamon rolls!

This smaller Holiday Inn express is well located in the Cannery, close to everything there. 8 minute walk to the Aquarium, and 2 minutes away from restaurants and a coffee shop. Breakfast is served in the lobby, nothing overwhelming. The room was clean.
Free parking was in the underground structure; the hotel doesn’t mind you leaving your car there the morning after your check-​out if you plan to visit the surrounding area.

Clean rooms, good breakfast, parking and WiFi as mentioned. The lake nearby is fun to experience. I’ll come back again!

My room was clean, well-​equipped and modern but on the small side. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and professional. Hotel itself is conveniently located and close to the freeway. The complimentary breakfast compensated for the room size. Overall, I would not mind staying here again.

The hotel is rated 3 stars on Hotwire, but I beg to differ and say it is closer to 2 stars. Granted they are working on making it nicer. The new breakfast room is actually really nice and modern, but that’s about the only thing 3 starish that I found. The rooms are very small and cramped and there’s only so much granite you can throw at it to attempt to make it nicer. Bedding is nice but the beds were soft and left my back sore in the morning.
The elevator looks worn and there are these flies lingering on the ground floor between the rooms and breakfast room. In the morning you have to run the fly gauntlet to get to breakfast. I don’t think they are houseflies, more like beach flies?
The breakfast is typical HIE faire, with a pancake machine that sounds like an inkjet printer. Bacon was bad IMO but the biscuits and gravy were pretty good actually. The cinnamon rolls are consistent with other HIEs and tasty.
Wi-​fi is fast when you have a connection, but it would drop like a mutha and I’d have to reconnect every few minutes.
Staff is pleasant and nice to talk to. I had a pretty nice deal from Hotwire which helped smooth out the bad but if I paid full price I think I’d be a little miffed.

First time here. So far I love in. The representative at the front desk made me feel like VIP since I’m IHG member. She also made sure I was up to date with the kool free pancakes for the month of August. Free water and bars for me which I totally love. I read the reviews and there weren’t so good ones so I didn’t expect anything but got everything. Great service, I didn’t get lost finding my room and the map she gave me had all the restaurants and nearby groceries stores with their hours. I find that very helpful.

Local walking with my sister who needed to use the restroom. Was told no — go to embassy suites next door. So friendly — not!

This is an old quality Inn that was bought by the Holiday Inn express which is in the process of being remodeled. The Wi-​Fi barely works, the room service is horrible you barely get your room cleaned by 4 o’clock.

They didn’t tell us they were renovating when we reserved two rooms with them. Bad hotel behavior.
They didn’t have either room ready by check-​in time. Really bad hotel behavior.
They didn’t give us rooms next door even though they said they would. Also pretty bad.
Oooh ooh ooh! And the Internet is the absolute worst!
The room they put us in smelled like toilet water. Oh my god so bad.
The attitude of the staff wasn’t great but I feel like I’d be less than peppy, too, if I worked in a toilet like this.
We will see if they at least knock some money off the bill…

First time staying here. The room lacked sufficient towels and half show panel which allowed water on bathroom floor. Walked barefoot on the carpet after showering and noticed my feet dirty black. Solution will check out after the night if I survive.
Complimentary breakfast is pretty pathetic too. Not enough food or staff to replenish the food trays.
I compliment the hotel manager for reversing my bill when I brought it to his attention.

«Needs an Update «
My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Monterey Bay in Seaside CA, and were very disappointed. The property is undergoing a face lift, but you don’t know that when you are booking your room. They should tell you that the hotel is undergoing a renovation. The rooms were outdated and not clean, and even the elevator floors were very dirty. The hotel had no front desk because it was torn up, although the new restaurant area was nice. Hopefully when the hotel renovation is all done, the staff will keep the hotel looking good.

Pros: close proximity to many good locations, bedroom was decent.
Cons: let’s see, right now it is midnight and people are partying and no intervention by hotel staff. It is loud and keeping my child up.
The carpets are DISGUSTING. After taking a shower our feet were dirty just walking bare foot on them.
Staff were rude. If you can see someone having trouble finding your lobby due to your renovation and poor signage, help that person.
Muggy rooms and the fan/​ac/​heat is either too hot or too cold.
Wifi is a JOKE.
Paid over $ 510 for a TWO NIGHT stay. Granted, this is a holiday weekend, but her real.
Management: clean your act up. The rooms, your guests and their lack of common decency, your staff. Oh, and get your elevator permit updated and have your elevator looked at. It is rickety.

Stayed here over the weekend and was satisfied with my experience. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well presented, but the bathroom space felt a little tight. The free breakfast wasn’t bad and there was a good selection of food.
The location of this hotel made it very easy to get to Hwy1 or downtown Monterey. The only downside was the noise… being placed close to the stairwell you hear everyone coming and going. There is a nice lagoon in the back with a walking trail that looks like it’s worth exploring.

Rooms are muggy, dated, and need serious upgrade. Prices are high for what you get.
Some of the rooms have a view of the ocean which is nice, but the walls are paper thin and you can definitely hear your neighbors getting it on loudly when you are trying to sleep.

I recently stayed at this hotel during the weekdays and I didn’t find this hotel too bad. When I checked in, the front desk was prompt, courteous, and very informative about the hotel and the area. Other hotels should consider hiring staff that are this friendly and informative!
The hotel itself looks more like a motel, with a tiny pool in the back. The room was fairly on the small side, but I think I may have gotten an updated room because everything looked «newer» and the bathroom looked like it had been recently remodeled. The beds were clean, the shower and the towels were clean (huge pet peeve), there was a fridge and microwave, and I had a nice big flat screen TV to keep the kids occupied. The one thing I didn’t like about the room was the 1970’s looking heater/​ac unit. It was loud and didn’t smell all that great when I turned it on. I also didn’t like the fact that the bed is located so close to the window and the window in this room is huge. The blinds didn’t close all the way so I had to close the curtain the whole time. I wish I was able to use natural light.
They also give you free toiletries should you forget any. I forgot a razor so I was able to ask for one at the front desk. I believe they also give out combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.
Free breakfast is also provided in the morning from 6:30 — 9:30. It’s not the greatest breakfast, but it’s better than a typical continental breakfast with just pastries. They had eggs, biscuits, turkey sausages, country gravy, pancakes (a cool 1 minute for 2 pancakes machine!), cereals, muffins, pastries, oatmeal, hard-​boiled eggs, an assortment of fruit, yogurt, and a variety of drinks from coffee to juice. And no, there is no bacon. My son made it very clear that he wanted bacon, but alas there was none to be found.
Parking is also free and there is a lot of it.
It is also conveniently located right by Chilis, in case you didn’t feel like driving.
This hotel is located in a pretty convenient location. It’s on a busy part of Del Monte, right next to the Embassy Suites, and Cannery Row is just 3 – 4 miles down. Seaside Beach is also less than a mile from here, on the other side of the freeway.
