O’Malley’s Tavern

It’s a decent enough corner bar if you live in the area, but I wouldn’t consider O’Malley’s a destination. The smoke, alone, is enough to drive you away. The crowd can also be uninviting to the non-​regular. However, if you’re a raging alcoholic jonesing for a drink… this is your place.

I went here once before when I was trying to leave my wife for another woman. What can I say, I was tired of my lady. Shit man, we’d been together too long. She was like this worn-​out recording of your favorite song. I mean, me and my old lady, had fallen into the same old dull routine. It was the same fuckin shit over and over and over.
So one day while she lay sleeping in bed, I read the paper and seen a letter in the personal columns about this girl. I awoke the next day and wrote back to her telling her to meet me at O’Malley’s so we could plan our escape.
So the next day around noontime, I sat there at O’Malley’s. I got a draft beer and burger, but I didn’t eat much because I was waiting with high hopes. Then she walked into the place, and I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve on her face… it was my old lady.
And I said, «Oh, it’s fucking you.» And she said, «I never knew that you were a poet?» I replied, «I’m nobody’s poet, but I thought it wasn’t half-​bad.» She looked down at me, and said, «there’s no way we are making love in the dunes of the cape.» Figures. Fuck.
My high-​hopes were gone at that point, so I finished my burger. It was really good. I recommend O’Malley’s for their burgers, but don’t go there to try and escape.
