Referred by friend over 12 years ago, this is my spot and Mack is my guy. I’ve been Consistently receiving the perfect cut, straight razor neck line, and hospitality. I once moved away for 2 years and I missed this place more than I ever imagined. See Mack or anyone on his team — you won’t regret it !

Let people cut me in line, took 2 hours for a haircut. If you are a University of Scranton Student, do not go here.

Always a good cut, reasonable price. Location is perfect for me downtown. I’ve never had to wait more than 10 minutes. They even stayed open later for me one night.

Due to my profession (U.S. Marines) I have successfully recieved a haircut every week for the past 10 years and counting. With all the traveling I do in my job I tend to find myself in a new city, state, even country with no clue who the true barbers are (assuming any even exist in the general area). Needless to say I have got alot of screwed up haircuts in the past.
While in the Scranton area to visit family for a couple weeks I was in dyer need of a nice medium skin fade. I went on Unilocal and Mackrells was the first to pop up. I immediately called because step one to finding a true barber is asking them specific questions for example «Do you know what a straight blade razor is?» And «Can you use it properly and not kill someone?» Mark sounded like a good to go guy and his price was average so I decided to give his place a shot.
Upon arrival I was greeted and welcomed to sit down and told my approximate wait time. Once in the seat, Mark asked me how I liked my haircut. I gave him some specific instructions which throughout the haircut he continued to double check to make sure things were to my liking.
The end result was awesome. I was a little nervous like anyone would be when they go to a new barber but since that day I have been back twice and every time I come back into town I will for sure come to Mackrells. Thanks!

Good clean haircuts with polite conversation. Prompt service, cheap. What on earth more could you want from your barber. I was referred several months ago. And I have referred several people more. There is a reason this man is still in business

I’ve had my hair cut in numerous cities and countries by numerous barbers/​hair stylists but no one can cut it as good as Stacy at Mackrell’s…she really takes her time and pays close attention to detail. If you want a good hair cut, stop by. The owner also cuts very well and is very professional and friendly. He really makes sure all of his customers are satisfied before they go out the door. The prices are also great! Parking can be a bit difficult though if it’s a week day afternoon, as this is located in the heart of downtown Scranton.

If you are looking for the real barbershop feel, then this is definitely your place! $ 12 for a cut and they offer discounts to students for $ 10! It’s a super friendly atmosphere and they really get to know you. You do have to usually wait as it’s first come first serve but I have always gotten a fresh cut and left feeling great!

I have been going to Mackrells for a couple of years. I travel quite a bit and use many barbers/​stylist, these guys have fixed more than one bad cut for me, simple in and out, no appt required.

I was in Scranton for the day on business and I needed a cut, so I turned to Unilocal.This place didn’t have many reviews, but it was within walking distance of the hotel (Radisson, Lackawanna Station), so it fit the bill.
The experience exceeded my expectations. The place was clean, the barbers were friendly, and the haircut was only $ 12 (neck trim with a straight razor and hot lather, as you would expect from a good barbershop)! I got my cut from Mark, the owner. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable… I don’t have simple, straight hair to work with, and he managed my thick, frizzy, cowlick-​ridden pelage with ease. I was very pleased with the outcome. If you’re in Scranton and you need a cut, I highly recommend Mackrell’s!

Great, simple and professional. Friendly owner and a price you can’t beat @ $ 12. I had a run of bad barbers (don’t really understand what is hard about a men’s buzz cut) so I was relieved to find Mackrell’s.

It’s a barber shop, plain and simple. You walk in, you get a nice, respectable cut, you get your neck shaved with a cutthroat razor. All for $ 12.
I’ve been going to Mac for two years now, and I’ve never been dissatisfied. But he does get busy in the afternoon, so plan to wait for three or four guys ahead of you.
And he’s closed on Mondays.
