If I could give ZERO stars I would, being that they people are the biggest bunch of liars.
I purchased a Groupon for 2 blowouts. I have called a few times (because the Groupon specifically said to CALL) Every time I called they were «BOOKED SOLID». So yesterday I called back and didn’t mention the Groupon, and wonder upon all wonders… they were WIDE open! I check online today… they are WIDE OPEN!

Cool staff and the establishment is nice. I’ve had great cuts there. Others have been eh due to being way over thought for a basic cut.

I have used the academy before and have always been satisfied with my experience and haircut but I absolutely loved my last visit! Jennifer O. was my stylist and she was fabulous!!! I wanted a new look and had been feeling really weighed down by my long hair. I showed her a picture and she really made it happen, along with the help of a really great instructor who gave her guidance through the cut. I’m so glad that we took before and after photos, what a difference a great cut can make. She kept length, but put in lots of layers and did some framing around my face. I will absolutely be back to see her in the near future and know that I can trust her judgment and skill. I have never changed my color, but I want to live it up a bit and can’t wait for Jennifer to help me step it up a notch. She has great talent, was such a doll & so much fun to chat with. I can’t wait to go back! Well done!!!

You take a chance when you go to a school for services. Yes there are instructors around to oversee and coach but really, you are at the students mercy. I have not had many experiences here where my hair turned out badly. This last one though, oh no… I decided to just get a cut and let the color grow out. Easy right? Just a cut, layered, long hair. Well it’s been two weeks and I have given it a fair try but to be honest, well I hate it. I won’t name the student because I knew I took a chance when I went in –they are still learning.
Now I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. I took two pictures in and I don’t know what part of my hair looks remotely like when I showed them… Like I must have been speaking Greek to him and the instructor.
I am still thinking about whether I will give them a chance to fix it or if I should go to a qualified stylist. I hate this cut more and more each day

Just finished my appointment with Maddie and have to give a Unilocal.I made an appointment for all-​over tint & highlights for short hair. The on-​line booking system is easy to use and gives you a lot of choices to pick what you want.
The salon called to ask if I could move up as highlight appointments are booked earlier. I was appreciative and went right in.
The salon is very crisp & clean looking and its huge. Plenty of parking. Large selection of hair and skin products.
Maddie was very professional and took time to understanding what I had done with my hair and what I was going for. I had not booked a cut but needed my short style cleaned up– fortunately they were able to book that. Maggie has a great sense of what will work and was great to chat with. Both instructors that checked the work were friendly & professional and seemed to have a good rapport with all the students.
Overall a great experience– I will be back when in the Phoenix area! Thank you

Toni & Guy is still my go to salon. Especially since I’ve been going to Alice. She is awesome! I’ve been getting my hair cut by her since she started school and every time she does my hair above and beyond my expectations.

I went in on Saturday for a color correction. I’ve been dyeing my hair red for several years and wanted to go back to my natural brown. The salon was clean, had a sleek modern feel to it. I loved all the energy in the salon. It was pretty cool watching all the different services being done and the teachers buzzing around answering questions.
Anyway, back to my service… A color correction is tricky business, and April W. did a great job. It was her first color correction and she was so poised and professional. She made sure I was comfortable, did an excellent job of communicating what she could do and set fair expectations as to how close to my natural color she could get. I’ve gone to other beauty schools and had terrible experiences, but this was really awesome. The services take a little while but that’s because the students are learning and want to take their time to make sure they get it right. I really loved how much confidence April had, it really made me feel at ease. Thanks for a great service and I love my hair color.

I came here after getting in contact with Estrella. She gave me a style (blowout/​straight) and touched up my undercut. However, she took a long time. I kind of wished I knew this beforehand so I can go around the stores and not sit there wasting my battery life on my cellphone.
But, being with her was a COMPLETE joy, though! She was very good to converse with while doing my hair and I didn’t even realize the two hours had gone by with her styling me. She left it nicely done, and touched it up once more as the style didn’t settle in, but let her know she could always contact me if she needs to get more services done for her training.
Only voting ⁴⁄₅ because of the time it took prior to being seen, and having a lot of things to do that day.

I love this salon, it’s super affordable and the service is amazing. Just to warn you, the haircut will take a few hours. I have super curly hair and it was a 3 hour cut. Totally worth it, my awful shelf hair was corrected. Kellie was the student who worked on me and Brittany, her teacher was there every step of the way. Two thumbs up to Kellie. I will definitely be asking for her in the future!

I love this place. Everytime I come I leave with awesome color and a great cut. The service is great and all the students are closely monitored by the instructors. It’s clean and the prices are ridiculously inexpensive for the service you get. When making an appointment ask for a senior student but don’t get attached to them because they will be graduating soon. The salon has a great vibe too.

I had an appointment yesterday to recut the bad haircut from my previous trip (read my review). I requested a certain graduating senior (she only had one week left), told her what I wanted and showed her pictures. I specifically told her, and the instructor, to keep the length on the sides and to stack the back (since the previous student had no clue how to cut it that way). The student pinned the front part up and got to work cutting the back. It’s when she unpinned one side and started cutting that I freaked. Instead of giving me blended layers on the side and trimming the length as I has asked her to do, she cut all my hair to my shortest layer. I walked in with hair two-​three inches below my chin and she had cut it to the bottom of my ears, even shorter than my jawline!!! I told her to «STOP cutting!!!» She seemed surprised when I told her she had cut it way too short. She ended up cutting her finger, left for a band-​aid and never came back (Will she also do that to her customers when she graduates?!).
After several minutes the instructor showed up and said, «I understand you are not happy with your haircut?» I told her to LOOK how short the student had cut the sides. It barely reached my jaw! The instructor told me it looks good. I said, «I KNOW you heard me tell her to keep the length. How can you say this looks good?» She looked back at me speechless with a baffled expression and turned around and left, leaving me sitting there trying hard not to cry.
Courtney, the owner showed up several minutes later and asked me if there was anything she could do to make me happier with my haircut. I said, while looking at the three inches of hair on the floor, «You could give me extensions because this will take 6 months to grow out.»
She ended up layering the right side that hadn’t been cut yet, touched up the stacked layers in the back and styled my hair. I admit, it looked much better when she was done, but that’s not going to give me my hair back. I’ve never had it this short in my life!
I still have one more groupon to use for a haircut by October 25^th, but NO WAY will I be back to let another student touch my hair! Teach your students to LISTEN to the client!!! DONE! DONE! DONE!

This place is nuts. For students who are looking to score a position at a high end salon when they graduate — best of luck. There is always a huge cluster of students smoking right by the front door, (I’ve seen some light up right in the doorway) the level of incessant giggling on the floor rivals that of my daughters 6^th grade birthday party, saw a student sleeping on a couch in the lobby today, girls dance, run around, swear and gossip to no end.
Why do I go here? I was lucky enough to find one of the elite students who actually cares about her future and does a stellar job every time I go to see her. When she leaves this summer, there is no forces in the universe that could get me back in that place. They need some babysitters/​room moms/​counselors to start keeping things under control.
One Direction Zayn at the front desk needs to work on his charm and smile technique, also.

Great atmosphere. Felt the team vibe when u walk in. Teachers are everywhere and always accessible to ask questions. I had Yuri and she was fantastic. Great shampoo and parting. Again their teacher was available for her anytime during the cut. Teacher was professional and didn’t seem to be bothered to help. You could tell that they are easily approachable.
The cut ended up exactly what I wanted and I also learned a lot about my hair and the tricks for naturally curly.
I’ve already made my apt in 6 weeks so Yuri can learn to trim up her own cut.
Don’t forget to tip the stylists. They deserve it.

Just got home from this establishment. Sarah was right, it will take you all day. Came in to get partial highlights and a cut, all-​in-​all took 4.5 hours. I came out a bit lighter than I would have liked, but once the roots start coming in, I think I will have the color I was looking for. Next time I’ll just make sure to be EXTRA specific.
Marta did my color and cut and she’s a very pleasant girl. She’s skillful and very polite. Can’t beat the price! Overall, I will definitely go back. The atmosphere is friendly, and the professionals are always there to assist when a student isn’t sure about something. Please remember to tip as students don’t receive anything from the price you pay for the services to the academy.
I liked being able to book my appt online. Great touch!

I love me a great deal.
I got my bangs trimmed and my hair touched up. The only thing is it will literally take you all day. Bad planning on my part but I needed to get my hair done before I flew out of state for a few days and my mom made last minute plans to meet up for lunch so I did not get to stay there as long as I would have liked to get the deep hair conditioning treatment and so two girls had to hurry and blow dry my hair so I could make it own in time or a little over the time I had said.
The color turned out to look a bit darker than I expected but it was good enough to wear it still looked nice.

I got a minor trim today, and I am really happy with how it came out! Came in for my appointment, and was promptly seated by my student Hannah. She listened to my simple wants, and was very professional. Her floor instructor came and introduced himself, and then I never saw him again.
Quick wash and condition, and then back to the chair again. Hannah took her time cutting, but I was in and out in 1.5 hrs. She completed the blow dry, and then I did a final look-​see. We did a little more trimming, and then it was out the door! Painless, and no hard sells for products (although she did mention they sell the same products as typical T + G at a discounted price).
Couple of things to note: most of the students are really young, and they all look like hipsters. Maybe a little awkward if you aren’t in the 20 – 40 range… The music is loud, but the space is big and clean. Great value!

Needed my quarterly cut and partial weave. Just didn’t feel like spending the almost $ 200 for the resort spa salon appt, even if it DOES include all-​day access to the lovely spa & pool… In the past (3+ yrs ago), I used to get my hair done at a hair school @ the C-​Institute on Rural & Southern. Read it’s recent reviews here & saw that place isn’t rating too well, AND they dumped Aveda, changed to L’Oreal, WTH?
THANKS TO UnilocalERS, I CALLED TONI & GUY! Didn’t even know about it till you guys reviewed it for me… I called on Thur, got in for Saturday morning 2 days later, I was shocked they had space for such a long appt on a Sat a.m. The told me if you REALLY want availability, go during the week (open Tue-​Sat) — they are hungry for people to work on!
I got lost finding the place, they say «Pavillions by Mountainside Fitness.» Turns out Mountainside isn’t obvious — Pavillions is BIG and covers 2 sides of Indian Bend. Go to SOUTH side, west-​most area of shopping center (closest to Pima Rd.) Turn south off Indian Bend at Hooters :-)
Like everyone says, it’s clean, bright, modern, and I love the big floor to ceiling windows that are in view of most stations. Walking in, it looks like a real salon. I apologized for being lost/​late to the check-​in guy at front desk who was friendly and nice. I noticed only the Manager lady at front desk didn’t smile/​greet.
Kelly was my stylist, Travis was the instructor overseeing her. Stylist Kelly was upbeat, friendly, asked a lot of questions about what I wanted, and really listened. When Travis came over to review, they had an exchange about coloring choice & method that made me feel confident about both of their abilities. As she got going, Travis came by and politely corrected her on how she was sectioning my hair, and she responded to him appreciatively. A nice exchange over my head, again adding to my confidence.
My hair turned out GREAT. She did highlights 2 to 1 with low lights, thin strands so it looks natural, and gave me a great cut resulting in exactly what I asked her for. I actually can’t tell the difference in outcome from the resort salon!
I learned that if the students don’t maintain at least a 90% in their courses, they’re out. T&G has impeccable standards, and it shows. I also noticed the students weren’t standing around gossiping or complaining out on the floor as if the customer is a mannequin head — a VERY nice change from the other school. It seems maybe T&G actually trains students to behave in a professional manner when out in «public,» not sure?

I brought snacks and something to drink knowing I would be there a long time. I was there total of 4 hours, frankly only about 1 hour longer than when I go to my salon in a Paradise Valley resort. I was out the door for $ 57 + an easily-​afforded, much-​deserved generous tip for Kelly.

I was a little skeptical about going to a school to get my hair cut, but I didn’t ask my regular stylist to do it because I knew she would talk me out of it. So, I just went for it! I will have to deal with the repercussions later when explaining myself to her… oooops!
Like Andrea S, I went from having pretty long hair to getting a much shorter cut (will post pics soon). I found a picture I liked of a G bob and brought it in for the stylist.
Positives? My stylist, Josh B, did a fantastic job on my cut, color and highlights. He especially did a great job with my cut, which he did with enthusiasm. Josh did an amazing job with my blowout, too. I would go to him in the future just to style my hair. Unfortunately for me, Josh is graduating next month… or else I would be going to see him all the time. Luckily for me, though, he is moving to a salon in the Biltmore with another classmate once he graduates. I foresee a long, successful career for this young man (he is only 17 and he is so talented).
The salon is actually REALLY nice. It is much nicer than I expected for a school, having gone to the Carsten Institute for haircuts when I was in college and it being just blah in there. This salon is on par with the Toni & Guy salons you see in the mall, if not even NICER. The school is in the rear of the building, so it just looks like a nice, large salon.
The instructor Travis helped Josh when he had questions (he didn’t have many, he just wanted it to be perfect — he is definitely a perfectionist). Josh told me Travis was a stylist for many years before becoming an instructor and he is very good at what he does.
Negatives? There’s really no negative except for that it takes a long time to get your hair done here. I wouldn’t have minded at all, except that my toddler was with me on both days and she was bored out of her mind.
Note: because it takes a long time (about 3.5 hours for haircut and root touch up with blowout, another 3 hours for my highlights and blowout), they can’t do cut, touch up color and highlights on the same day. They have to start color by 1 p.m., so there’s just not enough time… unless of course you got there when they opened and stayed all day? But I still think they schedule on two days for this kind of work.
Will I come here again? If I am able to schedule with Josh again before he leaves next month, I might just have an early touch up and trim. He is fantastic and it is worth the drive to Scottsdale from Ahwatukee! Otherwise, I can see myself coming here again if I find the time. I am VERY happy with my haircut!

I am beyond thrilled with my haircut! Zach did an awesome job.
We cut off something like six or seven inches and drastically changed the color. He was encouraging and supportive and excited about all our choices. His coach was always nearby if Zach had a question. I never felt nervous about having a student cut and color my hair.
His attention to detail and conversation was perfect. Everyone I’ve seen since has absolutely loved my hair.
By the end of the cut, two students stood by watching to see the final product and they were really impressed with his work.
Highly recommended.
