Board certified in Dermatology and fellowship-trained in Mohs skin cancer surgery, Dr. Nancy Kim is a former Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Kim began her career at Harvard University where she graduated with cum laude honors. She received her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduated Valedictorian of her class. Dr. Kim then went on to complete a rigorous three-year residency in dermatology at one of the top dermatology programs in the country, the University of Miami, where she was honored to be selected as chief resident and received the George Ioannides Award given for Excellence in Resident Dermatologic Teaching. After this, she completed a highly coveted, year-long fellowship at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in Mohs surgery, lasers and cosmetic surgery.

I have had two appointments with Dr. Kim and I am very pleased with everything. She treated three separate issues for me, and all went very well. The support staff was helpful and thorough and the appointment was right on time and efficient. I would highly recommend Spectrum to any friend who needed a dermatologist.

was given medication for ringworm & diagnosed with ringworm but after 3 months & having seen another dermatologist it was all just eczema! will never go back. in addition, when i was initially diagnosed they scheduled a followup apt. when i was contacted with a reminder of that apt i canceled the apt but still received bills for $ 25 missed apt fee. ridiculous when the amount billed to my insurance for the first wrong diagnosis shouldve been enough. very dissapointed

Met with Katherine and she was amazing. I felt comfortable talking with her as she was very knowledgable and I could tell that she cared. Between her and her assistant Danielle, the best care I’ve ever received. I’ve shopped around to other dermatologist but I know this my dr. I felt valued as patient and every question was explained. Overall 12 out of 10.

I think the physicians and nurses are fine but the administrative processes at Spectrum are a mess — an indication that the proprietors spend little to no time on actually managing the place. Simple things such as ensuring that lab orders get to the blood work operation seem to fall between the cracks and the «oh yeah, we should have done that» routine gets tiresome quickly. So don’t expect a lot of respect for your time here.

This place is so expensive. I brought my daughter to get a wart frozen on her finger and after my office-visit copay they had the nerve to charge my insurance $ 238 to freeze a wart and my share of that was $ 99. The wart didn’t go away so I called them back and asked if they can re-freeze the wart but not charge me another $ 99 and they said I would have to pay it again!

Trying all day to schedule surgery for melanoma. The phone system rings and rings, and finally disconnects. We love Dr. Rubenzik, but this is not the first time we have been let down by the administrative part of the practice.

I’ve had over 7 visits with two different dermatologists (Camelback and Shea locations), and I can say without hesitation that it was a waste of my time and money. Aside from the horrible wait times (I have a feeling they double and triple book), the doctors are largely unwilling to listen and/or don’t have time to do so. Each appointment has run approximately 5 – 6 minutes, and I end up leaving with a ton of unanswered questions. I’d been experiencing terrible reactions to a prescribed RX (losing hair, gaining weight, etc) and both doctors vehemently denied that said ailments were due to the RX, even though the pharmacist said otherwise. Both derms suggested I increase the RX. I’m disappointed with the huge lack of concern and general unwillingness to listen at both locations. Not only are most of the staff rude and dismissing, but many of my phone calls and voice messages were not returned. It’s unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend Spectrum to anyone.

Where do I start… VERY unpleasant visit and experience at this specific location. Waited an extra 25 minutes before I was seen — now, I understand that this happens and appointments fall behind but it’s irritating that no one follows up with you to tell you your appointment is going to run late. After waiting the additional 25 minutes, the doctors assistant came in and asked me basic questions and said the doctor would be in shortly. I had a list of questions to ask since I hadn’t been checked by a dermatologist in a while. She rushed with me and stayed in the room MAYBE 8 minutes. She recommended that I use a certain kind of face wash and when I asked the assistant what it was called, she said something along the lines of «idk, you can find it at CVS». I didn’t get to ask all my questions before she rushed out of the room AND to top it off, getting the prescriptions was a nightmare. They didn’t send all of the prescriptions to the Walgreens and when I called and left a message for the «on call» person, no one ever called me back. I waited an additional 3 days for the CORRECT prescriptions to be sent and that was after I called the office 3 times. I ended up describing my visit to another doctor there who kindly prescribed what I needed. I was told to call back if I needed another round and when I placed a refill order, it was denied. Very disappointed with the lack of customer service here. Was thinking about getting facials and additional treatments originally, But I will be taking my business elsewhere and I suggest you do too.

Where do I start? the standing room only waiting room with a 45 min wait? The fact the PA never touched my daughters skin. The PA then telling my 13 year old daughter it is ok to re apply makeup (mineral) after school before dance (without washing).
The prescriptions handed out with coupons that my insurance doesn’t cover and without insurance would cost $ 400.
Then, after the horrible office experience, I called about the prescriptions to see if there was another options, left two messages no returned calls.
Skip this place.

I have been going to Spectrum Dermatology for about a year. I have had a few different procedures and have been to all three of their offices. The longest I’ve ever waited was about 10 minutes but usually I don’t wait more than 5 minutes. Dr. Kim is wonderful. Both Dr. Kim and Dr. Thosani have great bedside manners. I also had a fabulous consultation with Lisa Styop. She was so informative and made me feel very comfortable, I booked a treatment with her right afterwards. All of the staff that I’ve met were terrific. I can’t say enough positive things about Spectrum Dermatology.

Absolutely awful experience. From the minute I walked in the door, the atmosphere felt cold and unwelcoming. When I walked up to the front desk to check in, I was not greeted by a good morning or how are you, I was simply bluntly asked «do you have your paperwork?» I sat down in the waiting room and immediately heard chatter about how patients have been waiting for 30 minutes to an hour past their appointment time. This time delay was not to be seen by the doctor, but just to be called back from the waiting room. After I had waiting over 30 minutes past my appointment time, I walked up to the from desk and was very rudely told, «you will need to give me a minute.» I then sat back down and waiting for a response. I was told there were still two people in front of me and I could expect to be called back in another 30 – 45 minutes. At this point I requested to cancel my appointment. When I declined the reschedule I was told «ok bye!» and the receptionist looked down at her computer. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back to this office or any other office in the Spectrum Dermatology practice. I would highly recommend you keep looking for a new practice!

Dr. Kim was referred to me by other doctor’s, only, not patients, My experience was negative all the way thru, my wait for apt after apt. time was about a hour or longer, once I got into a room the wait was more, It appeared they run their patients thru as if on an assembly line, bring them in, no follow up or return calls, schedule 2^nd apt,(as promised), meds, or concerns of one’s health and needs. after a month of not hearing from anyone, I called and was given several excuses, they did admit I fell thru the cracks, and wanted to make it up to me but after 2 failed office visits I wanted to see a DOCTOR to care for my needs not be treated as a second class citizen. I took it as an insult because of the severity of my skin’s needs. I found that they was not interested in what I had to say, my concerns and what my needs was. I went in for the extract treatment a month latter still waiting, I called another dermatology office, got in a week latter and started my treatments that day. I would not recommend this office to anyone. I have visited the Scottsdale office and the camelback office, one and the same. My dogs get better treatment at their doctor office.

I have never had a bad experience with the doctors but I give the customer service and the organization of the support staff (medical assistants and scheduling) an «F».
My last appointment with the PA was mediocre. She wasn’t over the top friendly or interested in what I had to say. I should have known this attitude would carry over as my medication has yielded less than desirable results. I’ve left 3 voice mails with the PA’s medical assistant to get a dosage change on my medication and not one call has been returned. They don’t seem to value the needs of their patients enough to respond to voice mails over 2 week old. It’s a shame I’m viewed as unimportant. Once they reel their patients in for an appointment, they’re done with them. As a medical provider myself, I would never treat a patient the way I have been treated there and don’t plan to return.

I am not giving stars for this practice’s cleanliness because cleanliness should be expected of a medical practice. I will give two stars for the inability to answer questions or listen to patient concerns.
You may not see the doctor, but the PA, which is fine, but be prepared for that if you prefer to see doctors and not assistants. I do not mind seeing PAs IMHO.
In my experience, Spectrum Dermatology sent over expensive name-brand Rxsto my pharmacy even when I specifically ask for generics (after all, I did your homework and know what is covered by my insurance). This lead to the most annoying back-and-forth argument between my pharmacist and the Spectrum assistants as they tried to fix the problem. Electronically shipping off my prescription is not convenient when I have to spend four days trying to get what I originally asked for. Perhaps if I firmly asked three times I will get what I asked for.
Spectrum Dermatology states it has a 24 hour return phone call policy with any questions you may have. This is apparently a suggestion in my opinion. I called once to discuss the Rx issue above (call back within 48 hours) and I called again regarding how to take a prescription (it’s been FIVE DAYS without a return phone call). I think this is unacceptable for a medical facility.
Further, I am disappointed with the Staff’s response to my concerns regarding a Rx side effect. When I voiced my concern, I was told that my Rx concern was not a side effect, but then the Rx insert and PHARMACIST told me otherwise.
Overall, very disappointed and will not be returning. If I can expect this runaround for my current issue, then I cannot imagine having to deal with this facility if I had something more serious.

Spectrum Dermatology is very impressive; the cleanliness of the office/exam rooms, the friendly staff and the exceptional doctors. I have been a patient of Dr. Rubenzik for a few years’ typically routine exams once a year. My first dermatology emergency happened this week (sucks getting old!) I called the office on a Monday afternoon and by Tuesday midday they were able to squeeze me in. Before I left the exam room my prescription was already sent to the pharmacy and a few samples were handed to me (always a nice touch). Highly recommend to people who want an intelligent, introspective and enlightening dermatologist! Side note: wait times are normal and while being examined I did not feel like they were rushing through so waiting a few extra minutes did not bother me.

Very disappointed with this practice. Waited an hour past my appointment along another patient and when we inquired we were dismissed. Had lab work done and never heard back from office. Finally called for lab results and the staff was extremely rude. Requested my results and the doctor never called me back. These people do not know how to run a business. The visit was a complete waste of time and money. Do not recommend.

Before I start raving about Dr. Kim, let me first start off with my experience with another dermatologist in Biltmore. First off, I was only able to see that dermatologist in Biltmore once as it seemed like it was run by her less experienced physician assistants (PAs) who were unimpressive when it came to knowledge and bedside manner. When I did see the dermatologist, it was very brief/direct and she seemed somewhat impersonal. The worst part was having to wait nearly an hour in a crowded waiting room even though it was for a follow-up with a PA. Since I really did not have significant skin needs at the time, I accepted the rather mediocre service and went along my merry way.
It wasn’t until I decided to get a mole removed that started to hunt for a new dermatologist. I found Dr. Kim on Unilocal and I am a huge fan. :) She is such a refreshing change! The very first visit, she sat down and talked not only about my concerns but also was interested in knowing about me personally. She may look young, but if you read her bio, her achievements and education are quite impressive! On top of everything, she is punctual yet presents herself in a very calm, professional manner. I also had one visit with her PA, Juliette, whom I found very informative and helpful. I would highly recommend Dr. Kim if you are looking for a dermatologist.

Spectrum Dermatology seems to be focusing on the aesthetic line of their business rather than their core business of dermatology. I’m sure this is a more profitable area for them. Rather than address several of my questions, Dr Rubenzik suggested I talk to their aesthetician. Dr. Rubenzik even pushed several products rather than giving me a prescription for a product I could fill at the pharmacy for a lower copay.
Needless to say, I don’t plan to go back to Spectrum Dermatology again.

Really bummed to have to write this review, after a few good visits to this office. I had a follow up visit with Dr. Rubenzik, whom I had seen before, and had waited in the exam room for nearly half an hour, after a decent wait in the waiting room. Had been seeing Dr. Kim, who is always prompt. Needed to schedule with Dr. Rubenzik this time, and was very specific when booking my appointment that I was worried about her running late. I was assured that I would have enough time (tight schedule for me).
I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and checked in, paid my co-pay. Ten minutes after my scheduled appointment, I asked at the front desk how far behind Dr. R was running. I was told that they were «just waiting for a room to open up» and Dr. R was finishing with her patient and that I was next. After waiting until about 20 minutes after my appointment time, I was taken to an exam room. Answered the assistant’s questions and given a gown to change into. She left saying Dr. R «would be in in a few minutes». After 10 minutes or more of waiting, I heard Dr. R knock on the next door and heard her say to the patient «I’m sorry I’m so late». Okay, clearly I wasn’t the next person to be seen.
After dealing with the not very capable front desk people, I left with a refund on my account, and not agreeable to rescheduling my appointment.
SUCH a disappointment, as Dr. Rubenzik is a fabulous dermatologist whom I would strongly recommend — the only reason why not giving 1 star.
