Solar sounds like a great idea but it may not work out the best. I got a lease arrangement from SkyPower. They were very helpful all along, but what they told me has simply not come true. Yes, I am supporting solar power and the person I worked with paid for the new modem I needed when financially, at that point, recently fired from a job, my budget was tight, which was nice of him. However, I was told I would be saving $ 600/​year, especially in the summer, with the long, sunny days, and that is absolutely NOT happening. I was told it was easy to sell to any new purchaser of the home as they could pay off the lease with a new mortgage and then get «free energy». There is no free energy! They only gave me 8 panels, because I would not have paid for more panels, as the lease would have been too expensive; those panels produce less than ½ the energy I need. They specifically told me not to get more panels and if I did not get an electric car those panels should cover my home. I think that was a TOTAL misrepresentation of the reality of things. I spoke on the phone to an SRP rep after getting very high bills for summer, and she took me online and showed me just how little energy I am getting from my panels. I was shocked! So I am still paying big SRP bills every month AND now have a fairly decent lease payment of $ 80/​month for 20 years AND they got the tax breaks, not me. I am saving NO money, in fact, I worry I may be paying MORE a month with that lease payment added on. I regret my decision to do leasing and use solar in this way. I kind of feel scammed. It’s good supporting solar, but I do not recommend doing it like this and if you do – REALLY look at how much energy your panels will make and talk to SRP first. SkyPower keeps blaming SRP for not having good solar rates, but I think that is kind of bogus. I think they just did not put enough panels on my house, because the lease is based on panels, and as a result, they got all the tax breaks, and I got a very long lease payment and still high energy bills. It’s very disappointing and frustrating.
