Marshall’s Service Center

These guys are great! I’ve taken my cars there several times, and they have always been courteous and professional. They seem very conscientious, and most important to me, honest. They have never recommended something that my car didn’t need, and that I didn’t want. They often don’t charge for small quick help, or sometimes for diagnostic services that don’t lead to repairs. I have used them primarily for Japanese vehicles, but they seem to be able to handle just about anything. Highly recommended!

Marshall’s has made several attempts to contact me via Unilocal since I posted my review. I really appreciate their effort to make things right. Unfortunately, I no longer own my Nissan and have found a different mechanic. As I said before, all other experiences with this company has been great so perhaps this last go around was a fluke. The positive here is that they clearly care about their work and customer service.

I have been going to Marshall’s, since late 80’s! These guys are PHENOMENAL! The best service in town, very reasonably priced! My car is 13 years old and it still runs beautifully, thanks to the service guys at Marshall’s. Thank goodness, their shop is within walking distance of my house:-)

My girlfriend has been going to Marshall’s for several years because they have been known as being very reputable and honest. Recently took her car in to be serviced for the check engine light and failed emissions. She decided to hold off on replacing the PCM computer and discuss it with me due to costs of the PCM computer being over $ 900.00. She’s a teacher for Scottsdale School District and everyone knows how the school district pays teachers in Arizona. She paid the $ 125.00 diagnostic fee and went home. The next morning her car would not start so she called me over to take a look at it. After opening the hood I found that the positive battery cable was corroded up and the connector burned through it wasn’t making a connection. I asked myself how could they have missed all the corrosion on the positive battery terminal and not replace the battery cable? I had to replace the battery cable just to start the car because it was so corroded and burnt through it wasn’t making a connection. After starting the car I discovered that the speedometer doesn’t work now. She returned the car to Marshall’s on Monday and they blamed the speedometer not working on the computer and wouldn’t even look at it for her. They apologized for missing the corrosion on the battery cable connection but wouldn’t do anything about it. After repairing the car myself I paid Marshall’s a visit and explained the situation to the owner and let him know that I felt that she got very bad customer service and was treated poorly just because she’s a woman. The owner appologized about the mishap and refunded the $ 125.00 diagnostic fees, provided a free oil change certificate and two movie passes. He made right by the mishap and applogized again. I ended up replacing the PCM computer myself for $ 200.00 and it passed emmissions. Marshall’s is still a very good shop that’s honest and trustworthy because the owner made it right by the mishap that transpired with my girlfriends car. I would still recommend Marshall’s to anyone looking for and honest and reputable auto repair shop in the valley. I’m not going to let one bad incident change my perception of the shop because the owner went above and beyond what we expected him to do to make this mishap right for her. We’re happy customers now. Marshall’s is amazing. They figure out what’s wrong, tell me in a timely manner, AND tell me what should still be under warranty/​what would be cheaper. The family atmosphere can’t be beat. They’re truly focused on giving great service to their customers.

They are really nice and I feel comfortable having my car worked here. They are right in the neighborhood which a huge plus!

I found Marshall’s in 2005 though the «mechanics file» section of the «car talk» website. I have never been disappointed with their work — ultimate professionals, timely and when you can’t be without your car they will do a rental for you — right on site (though they run low on rentals when it’s ‘snow bird’ season). No weird pressure or up-​sells — just honest business. That said, they’re busy — so an appointment always helps.

Last time here the service was good but we had a miscommunication which left me a little confused if not miffed. Honestly, looking back at it I realize that it was a conversation that could’ve gone better but I wonder how much was my fault vs theirs.
The manger and staff went above and beyond in making amends and they not only provided the good service they provided last time, but were very kind and very appologetic for the misunderstanding. I really have to compliment how they handled things and for taking wonderful care of me.
I could have asked more questions, and I got a slightly better deal when I lived closer to the last place I got service, but I understand that was a big dealership that made lots of money in sales vs a independent service company who makes their money off of car service.
All in all, I admit that this place offers great service, the prices are not outlandish in my experience, and they seem to honestly care about their customers. If you live anywhere near 82^nd Street and Indian School, I can honestly recommend this place. They are worth giving your business to. I was lukewarm before, but they have gone out of their way to fix things in a way that few other companies would have.

Had to return my vehicle 3 times before it was put back together correctly after a repair. I am very unhappy with the quality of service. Return once maybe, twice inconsiderate, the third time is just nuts. I will not be going back.

Love this place. I don’t normally give 5 star reviews… in fact, I think this is my first… but these guys treat you right and provide great service.
Good case in point: I neglected my timing belt (120K miles isn’t a smart move…) and it actually snapped. On my car (a Honda CRV), when the timing belt breaks, there’s almost a 100% chance of valve damage, so I expected the worst and was prepared to pay the worst, and even told them when it was towed in, «I’m sure my valves are blown, so, I know I’ll be paying through the nose, but, whatever it takes.» Instead, when they pulled it apart, they found zero damage, and were able to put it back together and get me out the door within a few hours. A dishonest shop, or even MOST shops, would have gone ahead and charged me for a valve job, but instead, this shop voluntarily saved me hundreds of dollars (I think close to a grand). It takes a special kind of shop to willingly take such a hit, money-​wise.
Great shop, all-​around.

This whole review saddens me. I was this shop’s biggest fan. My last experience with the front man was disappointing, but what I would discover later warrants a warning to everyone else.
I took the car in because unlike every other vehicle on the planet, my A/​C was losing temp while moving, but getting cold again while idling. I also asked for an oil change and a complete inspection.
Usually, either Patrick or Joe have coordinated with me. This time it was Matt. He called pretty quickly and advised my compressor was completely shot, but that did not explain the cooling issues. As this compressor had only 10,000 miles on it, I explained I really needed to know what else could be causing the problem so I would know what I might be in for. Matt told me he couldn’t make a guess and they could not diagnose the problem without replacing the compressor first. He also advised I needed a new water pump belt and that the oil pan was leaking. At this point, I opted to discuss it with my father first, my resident car expert.
When I spoke with Matt again, I asked if they had let the A/​C run for a period while idling. I got «I assume so» as an answer. I also asked if they could just tighten the gaskets on the oil pan. After a sarcastic response, he said the bottom of the pan was covered in oil, but it could wait. In the past, I was provided that kind of info from the get go. I also asked for a new compressor, not a rebuild. I was discouraged and told a new part would probably only be available from the dealer at a substantial increase in cost. I got the impression he just didn’t want to look for the part, but he did agree to get a quote and speak with the technician.
Later Matt left a message that they had run more tests, and now they can say with certainty the compressor is the only problem. So now I’m pretty disgusted by the fact that first he tells me they can’t know if an $ 800 repair will fix the problem until I hesitate to get the repair, and now suddenly more tests materialize that allow them to properly diagnose it? At this point, I still had chalked this up as poor communication from Matt, but I washed my hands of it letting my husband take over. He opted to pick up the car with nothing but the oil change done.
This is where it goes from bad to worse. My dad can get parts for less than half of retail, so we opted to have him buy the parts and his guy do the repairs. The new compressor was not difficult to find and did not have to come from the dealer. Furthermore, my dad looks at everything before taking it in. First thing he didn’t find was an oil pan leak. The oil on the pan was the oil blowing from the leaky compressor. The gaskets were clean-​not wiped clean, clean as in never been leaking. His mechanic also confirmed there was no leak. Second, brake fluid was low so apparently there was no fluid check with the oil change. Third, oil drain plug was loose-​loose enough to be tightened by hand. Fourth, oil level is low! It didn’t appear to have all leaked out, but rather I was shorted on oil.
I am not certain whether there has been a change in mechanics or what is going on. But it was really disheartening to be advised to do a $ 280 repair for a non-​existent leak. That’s either dishonesty or an epic fail in diagnostic ability. Not to mention a simple oil change was not done correctly either… again I don’t know if that was intentional because we opted to pick the car up or the work of sloppy technicians. Regardless, I just don’t feel I can trust Marshall’s anymore.

I car died right in front of their shop — - Literally! I ran in they ran out and pushed the car in. Well I was with a new client and we had a schedule to keep SO Within 15 minutes they checked my car in, gave me a rental, transferred all my stuff from one car to the other and I was on my way!
They even had a technician take my car home to make sure the car was behaving like it should after the repair.
Great friendly staff and completely made my day by being so quick.

Seriously the greatest little secret in Phoenix! I found this shop because I lived about 4 blocks from them — about 10 years ago. I kept taking my car there because all the guys working there were super nice… and super cute! And of course I could walk home while they worked on it.
Now it’s 10 years later, I have moved away from Phoenix, and I still get to go there! Same cute guys, same fabulous service! I just can’t walk home while my car is there. And they even remember my car and me. And a few years ago they have built out the shop to be pretty swanky and able to handle much more service. Nice to see their success and growth!
I promise you that you can safely take your car there for the most professional service. I would gander that it is probably better than a dealership — they are professionals and know how to run a great business. It’s almost like they went to the «Ivy League Car University». You’ll know what I mean when you go there — seriously fabulous. I have never paid too much and would leave them with my car and a blank check.
Although now that I have posted this, they may no longer be a little secret. ;)

I have been using Marshall’s Service Center for more than a decade. The service writers have always worked with me to give me good service within my budget constraints, for instance, by helping me discern what could be postponed.
No work has ever needed to be redone.
Other members of my family have had similarly good experiences with them, over even more years.
I can give Marshall’s my highest recommendation.

I used Marshall’s for the first time today even though they are right around the corner from my home. I’ve been passing their shop for awhile and when my car started making rubbing sounds by the front tire, I figured I would give them a try. They got me in the next day, did my oil change and troubleshot my problem. They discovered it was only a pebble between my backing plate and brake rotor and removing the pebble was all that was needed.
Their customer service was great and like others have said, the gave me some options of things that should be done now vs. need to be done in the future. They were honest and upfront about everything which is so great compared to the mechanic’s I had been using. I will most definately take my car back to them when the need arises.
I only gave 4 stars because it is my first time using them and it was for something rather minor.

It’s a little scary when you’ve reached the point with your vehicle that you can’t justify taking it to the dealership anymore for service. I love my Honda dealership but couldn’t justify driving 30 miles and spending exponentially more money there than a normal shop.
A family referral brought me to the door of Marshall’s and I have had two good experiences so far. Both times I brought my car here were normal maintenance appointments so I can’t speak to huge repairs or their costs. I can tell you that both times, my oil changes were done within a couple of hours, the final price was reasonable and customer service is overall pretty good. I’ve never felt I was being taken advantage of or that my patronage hasn’t been valued. Car talk can be a daunting task for a this lady and I’m glad to have found this little safe and reliable gem in Scottsdale.

Was looking for someone to work on my vehicle (a check engine light had appeared) and I had become somewhat disgruntled with my old service center. After looking on Unilocal reviews, I decided to call Marshall’s. They were able to get it in the next day to see what the problem was. Very nice on the telephone, and they called me back to give me various options and prices on repairs. I decided to just replace the spark plug wires, and when I picked it up, it ran perfectly.
What impressed me was they gave me choices on what needed fixing immediately, and what could wait until later. Some of the things that needed to be done, I could do myself which saved money, which is always a good thing.
Very nice people, and very professional. They are my new auto service mechanics, as I can trust them to give me honest answers.
