We asked Dr. Corey what he feels makes him different and why his practice has been so successful. Here, he shares some of what makes him unique:

«To be successful in a plastic surgery practice I think it’s important to have 3 qualities. First, you have to be able to make the correct diagnosis and to really hear what the patient is saying. I have the ability to actively focus on the patient and I have honed, I think, a talent for listening. My patients tell me all the time that they feel I did what they wanted, and not what I wanted. I also present them with an environment that is so open, friendly and relaxed that they feel very comfortable in telling me exactly what they want and feel. Second, you have to have a certain eye for things and the ability to see what needs to be done. And third, you need to have trained hands that can perform what is needed from step one and step two.

Additionally, my staff is simply amazing. Employees are an extension of the physician and can make all the difference in the world. My staff is welcoming, never offensive, never defensive and we all communicate really well.»

John J. Corey is an aesthetic plastic surgeon who has practiced in Scottsdale, Arizona, since 1993 after completing his residency at the Medical College of Georgia and further cosmetic surgery training in Brazil. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a member of both the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He was Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix from 1994 – 1999. He lectures at Arizona State University, and he is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at Midwestern University. He is one of the most respected and sought-​after faculty members at the Osler Institute which provides hands-​on review for practicing plastic surgeons worldwide who are preparing for their own Board certification. Dr. Corey has been voted one of the top doctors in plastic surgery by Maricopa County physicians in a CBS Channel 5 poll and by his peers in the yearly «Top Doc» edition of Phoenix Ma

Dr. Corey’s approach to plastic surgery draws on his training here in the United States as well as Brazil. After graduating from the University of Utah School of Medicine and fulfilling prerequisite training in general surgery at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, he entered the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta to begin his plastic surgery residency. It was there that he met Dr. Renato Saltz, one of his professors, who introduced him to some of the surgical concepts from Brazil.

Intrigued by the Brazilian approach to plastic surgery, Dr. Corey traveled to Brazil in July 1993 to study in Rio de Janeiro as well as with other surgeons in other cities. His training there taught him to view plastic surgery from a more artistic standpoint.
