Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch

The customer service here is terrible. We checked out early because of it. No managers have the power to take action and they just beat around the bush and take no accountability. We cancelled an upcoming stay as well and will never stay there again. The room floor was so dirty that after taking a shower you’d walk back to the bed and your feet would be black again. Disgusting and disappointed.

The property upon arrival is literally like a dessert oasis. Immaculate grounds, very done well — large, grand modern lodge like interiors with open and comfortable surroundings. But as you move from the open communal spaces to the rooms and the restaurants, there’s were the facility starts showing some flaws and wear and tear.
This property gets a LOT of traffic. And while we were there, a ton of young families with little kids, and golfers, of course. There was never any slow traffic times in this resort — there is traffic coming and going from sunrise to quitting time, so the noise level is somewhat high.
The rooms are stylist still but starting to show some mileage. Some colors out of favor, wood finishes drying out, tears, paint rubbed off corners, little chucks of wallpaper missing here and there, slight outdated marble in the bathroom. But the part that lowered the score was the smell. The room had a musky «salty dog» odor, or at least the rooms we had did. I would attribute this to all the people walking around on carpets after getting out of one of the many pools on the property. All those people dipping all over all that carpet is going to start to smell. The desk and electrical configurations were good, and the bed (for me) was comfortable and I slept well.
Worth noting: Housekeeping forgot to make up my room one of the three nights I was there, and the car service at the hotel charged us $ 15 to take us to the building next door (when it was supposed to be gratis for up to 1 mile away). I also felt the food at all the different restaurants we went to was just ok but not cheap. Even at the «nice restaurant» Alto, was just ok. The breakfast buffet was rather nicely done, and fairly balanced between healthier foods and sweets and starches. But coffee at all the restaurants (I’m a DD’s guy BTW) was just awful…
The best part was definitely the Spa. As a guest of the resort, for $ 20 (or if you buy any spa treatment) you get unlimited access to the Spa facilities for the day (closes at 6PM). The spa (because it’s an upcharge) has far less traffic, and the folks that are there, are there because they want to chill. The private mineral pool, relaxation rooms, Himalayan salt room, hot tubs with cold plunges, steam, sauna, and outdoor showers make this a very cool place to chill for the day.
If the room hadn’t been smelly and they forgot to clean it, and the food a little better I could have given them 4 stars. But because of those things, it’s a 3 star rating.

By far one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at, I got the preferred room and it came with a beautiful view, great service definitely a 5 star hotel, would stay there again if I’m in Scottsdale again.

Our mini staycation was for my husband’s birthday! We loved it! Our room was nice, great view. The bed and pillows were so comfortable! The balcony was relaxing with the chaise lounge chairs and great views. They surprised us with a bottle of champagne and dessert tray for my husband’s birthday! A very nice touch! In the evening we went to listen to a band and I had a prickly pear margarita that was delicious! I didn’t get the name of the band, but they were pretty good. Our waitress was always checking on us and we never felt ignored even though for a Monday they were pretty busy. I wished we would have had time for a gondola ride. Next time ! The service was excellent. From the vallet, front desk, gardeners, and breakfast at the SWB. Every one was friendly and gave excellent customer service! Can’t wait to go back.

We came here for our family staycation… With in only 3 hours of being at the hotel we were stopped by security. He rudely asked our name and room number. Completely ruined our staycation! Head of security couldn’t answer why and gave a phony excuse why we were asked. Customer service sucks here! The rooms are nice and the pools are amazing! Too bad it’s all ruined! DONT STAY HERE if you expect friendly courteous staff.

Beautiful hotel great place to stay and friendly staff. The only negative thing house keeping didn’t clean the room until about 6 PM and she didn’t clean the bathroom only changed sheets. Other then that’s writhing was great and yes I will stay there again

The resort is beautiful. The staff nice. The hotel policies will likely SURPRISE you without notice.
The swimming pool policy, for one, is that the hotel removes your stuff off a pool chair if you are gone for an hour. That policy is not consistent with the majority of other Hyatt resorts.
Our advice. THIS is NOT an adult property. It’s for kiddies running all over. Nice kid slide, kids activities, but the «adult pool» is second class compared to most we’ve stayed at.

This resert is gorgeous. When you arrive and see the open indoor/​outdoor courtyard lounge area with a perfect view you will never want to leave. It’s well kept with beautiful finishes, plenty if pool areas with lounges and daybeds… oh and a three story waterslide if that’s your thing! The grounds are pristine, my room overlooking a lagoon and flowering tropicals. The staff has been good and service pleasant also. You will not be disappointed.

So beautiful! But no customer service. I asked for down free room. Called to confirm down free room. What did I get? A room with down pillows and down comforter! In AZ no less. But hey! 4 stars=down comforters!
Update: Wonderful Concierge insisted I get a PURE ROOM — didn’t even know this existed! — no flipping duck down residue and an air purifier

Very nice place with big pools and the slide is super fun and fast but closes kinda early at 5pm
The double bed rooms are doubles kinda small too for the price you pay here and the AC wasn’t working properly when we checked in took a while to fix they where in our room with a latter don’t think that should had happened, We had a small brand new trailer that wasn’t aloud by the front door so we had to walk from the parking lot with our luggage at least give us a few minutes to get our stuff their was plenty of room and I had it pulled over to the side

Perfect staycation location. Easy to get to with enough to do and relaxing areas around that you’ll be happy for the price. The staff were all engaging and perceptive to what two young adults and a two year old needed arriving late at night. Greeted with cocktails, baggage help, and some laughs and playful spirits for the kiddo. Our room was conveniently accessible, clean and well taken care of. We found that we didn’t mark what bed we wanted and ended up with two full sizers which ended up being perfect because one of us is a light sleeper when the kiddo sleeps with.
The food we ordered for room service was flavorful besides the gin lemonade concoction, seemingly good idea just poorly executed. All in all dinner was hot and breakfast was fresh. Had we not had the baby with us we would’ve loved to get dinner at one of their restaurants but we will save that for next time.
The only gripe was the tv. Lol late night we wanted to watch a movie/​movies because it’s fun for the kiddo and he loves em. The issue is the style of tv and remote situation. I love new tech and incorporating it into the experience but the roller bar and keyboard setup was awful. The mouse hardly moves where you want and the movie set up lame. You can do a bulk movie buy but it’s in a view that’s pre hd and honestly blurry quality. Hyatt, fix that. All details other than that were perfect! Good news is they’ll be updating this format in June.

We stayed March 20^th and 21^st — it was my husbands birthday and our anniversary. I planned a quick get away — since my husband and I had been working so hard a quick «staycation» I thought is what we needed.
March 20^th — we checked in a bit late 9:30pm 9:45pm as my we had just gotten off of work. Check in went well — we were assigned a King room with a patio which was just fine. We got to our room opened the balcony door and sat on the patio. We had an okay view to a courtyard — nothing very special, but we were together and that’s all the mattered.
We ordered a sandwich from the market they have — as room service is not available ²⁴⁄₇. They indicated they would deliver within 30 min — around 1 hour goes by and I call back to find out the ETA -(thought they may be busy) they said they tried to deliver but we didn’t answer… We hadn’t left the room at ALL– I think they just forgot about us or maybe didn’t get the room number right — but they blamed us.
I asked for them to knock harder or maybe you can call us when you’re coming? Come on — help me out here!!!
Shortly after my dry sandwich was delivered at around 12:30am — we get a visit from security. Indicating we were talking too loud and disturbing the other guests — we were on the patio and I guess we aren’t allowed to use it after a certain time?
The security person made us feel like we were 20 year old kids on a tirade of booze and pot smoking — when in reality we were sitting on the patio chatting — nothing more. Security left — I called the operator and asked to speak to the manager on duty — they indicated there wasn’t one and we’d be stuck talking to security… This is a big place — with a lot of guests — No manager on duty???
We this was NOT a great start to our anniversary/​birthday staycation!!!
Bright and early the next morning — I am assuming the guest that had called security on us — had their children bouncing a basketball against our wall… ARE YOU KIDDING ME. And we are a problem?
We went to the front desk asking to speak to the manager — we were told she was in a meeting. We left our names and room number. NOTHING — no follow up — NOTHING. So — we went again and asked for the manager a second time — not available.
It was terrible — not relaxing AT ALL. I felt like it was just a huge waste of money and time — all the effort I spent trying to surprise my husband and getting packed while working all at the same time — We all know the drill — but when you spend this much money — you expect much more.
This resort is very nice, but I think it’s just family oriented. Not for adults wanting to get away — this was spring break and spring training is happening, but you should be able to accommodate everyone.
Don’t go — save your money and go to the Valley Ho — this has never happened to me there and I’ll gladly pay extra.

We came over for Xmas with friends and families and truly enjoyed the experience. The hotel is large enough to be able to explore for a few days and not get bored. The heated pool was still a bit chilly but we were able to get in with the kids and have some fun

The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort is like that girl you knew in high school who was absolutely gorgeous but had the worst personality ever; and was basically a vapid, selfish, jerk.
The entire property is gorgeous, with well-​manicured gardens, decorative fire pits and fountains, and enough greenery to make me forget that it’s still winter where I live and everything is dead outside.
But beneath the surface of the resort lies an incredibly greedy, corporation dedicated to nickel and dime-​ing its customers until they’re so resentful they never want to come back. Or at least, I am.
Nearly every room looks out onto a pretty courtyard, or a stunning lagoon. Except mine, which looked out onto a dumpster and an access road. My room was one away from being the absolute farthest point away from the check-​in desk as possible. In the basement. My neighboring rooms were the ones they apparently use to accommodate people with dogs. Mine probably was too, but sadly my pets were not along for this vacation. My wife and I were the only ones privy to the beautiful rusting dumpster outside our patio.
Oh, we could’ve upgraded. For a fee. I did some reading and found that you could upgrade your room and be at regency status, which also opened the door to a nice lounge with free flowing drinks, breakfast and evening appetizers. But we’d pre-​booked everything at the regular rate, and at more than $ 300 per night, plus the added resort fee and parking fee, we felt we’d paid enough for the privilege of being there.
But it definitely felt like we weren’t good enough to be there. I could’ve spent a bit more and been upgraded but by the point I realized it was an option, I was already disheartened by the room and its lack of charm. Speaking of the room, it in itself was fine. But that’s all I’d say about it. It was fine. There was nothing special or magnificent about it. The décor was fairly plain and nothing stood out to make you feel like this was worth $ 300+ per night. I’ve stayed in far nicer places for a fraction of the price.
Upon visiting the pool, we were treated to a wealth of swimming options but tended to stay in the adult pool area. Unfortunately, the heated whirlpool was not in this area and was in the family play area, absolutely filled with children-​soup the entire time we were there. We weren’t on a family vacation, but a quick weekend getaway for the two of us and other people’s unsupervised children were not part of the plan. But there they were anyway, rolling around and splashing in what should’ve been a 16-​and-​older area. But that’s just my opinion. You may disagree.
I can’t tell how old the resort is, but the pool complex seems to be starting to show its age with crumbling cement and rusted fixtures. There were some nice cabanas available for rent. But nearby there were also those nice outdoor day-​beds with the canopies you often find at resorts. But instead of them being first-​come/​first-​served, they were available for a ridiculous daily-​use fee.
The nickel-​and-​dime-​ing continued. I logged into the «complimentary» internet, that was included as part of my resort fee and quickly found that I would only receive basic service, but I could (you guessed it) upgrade to decent quality service to watch Netflix and the like, for an additional fee.
But I think it was the paid parking that offended me the most. Again, when you’re already paying for a room and resort fee I was downright mad when I saw that I also had to pay for parking, and didn’t even get in/​out privileges. Not to mention the fact that the automated pay-​system wasn’t working properly when we left during our first night. We pressed the HELP button multiple times, but nobody came, and I’m fairly certain it charged us twice. After swiping our credit card the machine continuously
requested that we push the receipt button, but nothing happened. There was no receipt and the gate did not go up until we inserted our credit card a second time. I will definitely be scanning my statement for any scams put forth by this machine.
Overall, had we had a nicer room with a better view, and a few of those add-​ins that they are more than welcome to throw in if you pay them enough, I would have left feeling a lot more positive about this resort. But considering the shoddy money-​is-​everything feeling that surrounded my quiet weekend vacation, I certainly don’t intend to return to this money-​grubbing black hole anytime soon.

This is one of my favorite resorts in town to visit as a in town tourist.
They have live music and big fire-​pits n the weekends in the winter. A giant pool with sand beaches a slide, more and great drinks in the summer.
They even offer free EV changing even though it is a very cumbersome process to obtain a code and activate the charger.
One small issue is that in the conf center Verizon gets no data sevice. A big issue with all of my work devices are verizon.

Excellent Conference Experience
Was at the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch for a summit for the day. Truly a great experience: Staff was super friendly and helpful, the facility is immaculate, and the food was well above standard resort fare. When one conference goer mentioned they couldn’t have milk, the staff called in for some alternative food with a smile; no fuss and couldn’t have been more gracious. Even the A/​V people were great as they mic’d us up for our panel!
The conference areas have a great design– distinct architecture, lots of light, enjoyable patio areas to retreat to, and easy to navigate. +1 for the free charging locker stations. –1 for the pricey parking lot fee.
Will have to look at this place for a staycation from summertime…

You’ll find luxury accommodations in Arizona at their finest here. The live music is some of the best of it’s genre I’ve heard from a small band in a petite location in what I’d call «forever».
Fireplaces outside, warming lamps on cool desert nights, a huge heated pool and hot tub complex, water slide, and a pool that even has sand called «The Beach».
It’s something one would only expect to find in the middle of a desert, right?
Chalk that up to three on-​site restaurants and a bar. The Sushi bar looked great, but then the Italian restaurant has a 7-​acre outdoor lake and a gondola, complete with a Venetian Gondolier who will sing to you and your significant other whilst under the moonlight. Crazy, I know, yet quite amazing if you think about it.
I hear the fairways are «fast» and the course is rough, but then, I don’t really play golf. If you don’t either, never fear! They also have professional tennis courts complete with instruction, dune buggy adventures, and a decent on-​site gym to take the edge off, and if that doesn’t work, you can always try the professional Spa or shop at the 24-​hour on-​site coffee bar and market.
Did I mention the adult grotto or the jogging and bike path with a small pond? No? Guess I was too busy lounging on the giant bean bags under the palm trees by the open-​air pool bar… at midnight.
If you haven’t checked out this place after reading this review, you may never know what you’re missing.

Came here for a weekend for a little getaway and it was perfect! It’s def a family friendly hotel and lots of great activities for the kids by the pool!

At night it’s equally as beautiful and fun! They have the fire pits going along w/​live music. Beautiful resort that I will love to go back and stay at!

I think we’ve found the best hotel in Phoenix… Or ever. We stayed here a few weekends ago while we had friends in town and were absolutely thrilled when we pulled up. Step out of the car and BAM you feel like you just walked into a 5 star Mexico resort. The lobby area and restaurant are beautiful with a great 5 star atmosphere. The room was acceptable and bathroom was over the top!
The pool area is BY FAR the best resort style step up I’ve seen in PHX. There are about 6 – 8 pool areas which includes plenty of chairs, fun activities for kids, a bar, and a nice hot tub!
PLEASE don’t hesitate in visiting this place, especially in the summer :)

Excellent service from start to finish. No matter where you go in the resort the staff is friendly and very helpful. Front desk manager was amazing and dealt with a small issue I had in seconds and really went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. That’s hospitality!
We felt welcome and well cared for. Resort is beautiful and spread out with well manicured grounds and waterways. Regency club offers a nice private indoor outdoor lounge and patio for drinks and dining in private.
Make sure to hit the decadent lobby confectionary cart in the evening, fresh made chocolates, cookies and desserts that will make any diet going person fall off the wagon. Simply amazing desserts. Live music in lobby gives the place a since of energy but not obnoxious in any way. Loved it!

One of the most beautiful resorts in the area.
We came here for thanksgiving with my wife and two kids from Los Angeles. We were excited to come and happy to upgrade to a $ 450 a night room for a little extra space /​better view. We travel often and love to upgrade to the finer things.
Like I said, the resort is flat out gorgeous. The pool area is like nothing I have ever seen — world class family fun at its best with a water slide.
My critiques:
— for the price we paid I would expect a chair that is not falling apart. The thing was peeling and left plastic bits all over my wife’s black dress.
— there was trash all over our deck at check in, including sugar packets, styrofoam peanuts, paper, and dried ketchup marks.
— the room service and food options are limited. Just weird. Who orders a chicken sandwich that comes with rice? No pizza, yet they have an Italian restaurant. No wings. Not asking for much, but some basics that appeal to the family crowd (the for kids by kids menu was a joke). Options were so limited that we left the resort to find alternatives for every meal.
— we had access to the Regency club. This was the only gem of the place. More than ¾ of the lounge is listed as no kids /​adults only though. Why not open the place up vs punish your guests with kids (eg the ones who would normally come with their deep pockets to spend here). Additionally, the lunch refreshments were limited to dried apricots and dirty soda cans. Breakfast was good.
Overall, we made due and had a good time. My only advice: if you are used to nicer resorts and are looking to please your family, you might think about other places. If you came here as a couple it would be perfect.

First time at the Hyatt Gainey Ranch for us and we agree with the good reviews. This is a very nice resort hotel in an area full of great resort hotels. The food was very good, the service was excellent and my wife just raved about Spa Avania.
We took a gondola ride and though it may sound a bit corny, we enjoyed it! The gondolier sang a beautiful Italian love song for us as we floated along.
Our room had an air filter which was nice for both the white noise it created and the allergens it filtered. The bed was comfortable but the chairs in the room were terribly uncomfortable. We sat in the lobby to read which isn’t a bad choice but it does require one to get dressed.
The nightly live music was very good, one of the best features of this property. Local acts, varied styles, well done. Great way to end the day, sitting by an outdoor fire listening to good music.
There are plenty of areas to walk and bicycles if you want to venture a bit further. The grounds are very well groomed. They’ve replaced a lot of the real grass with incredibly soft turf, it saves 1000’s of gallons of water and looks beautiful.
There is a nice sushi bar Noh located off the garden patio area. Makes for a nice evening eating sushi by the fire listening to live music.
