Harkins Camelview at Fashion Square

A nice theater, no doubt. I appreciate how clear the signs are pointing me to the parking garage next to the theater. I was able to find a spot on the third floor and find Harkins fairly easy after entering the mall.
I arrived late and my friends had already purchased our tickets, which I didn’t realize had to be picked out in advance. We made our way inside and were able to find the row and seat numbers, though the latter was less clear. The seats are top notch, plush and reclining which was dangerous considering how I was tired already. But the movie kept me engaged and awake and the graphics seemed to be extra clear to me.
I assumed ticket prices would be standard, even though I hadn’t been to a theater in a while. So after I paid my friend I checked my stub and was surprised to see $ 14 listed. Yikes. Is it worth it? Not sure. I barely go to the theater but I’d rather go to an early showing at a standard theater and pay less personally. I do miss the old location but this one fits well with the rest of the vibe of the mall.

Remember when the adults on the peanuts sounded like Wa wa wa wah «that is what i am hearing in regards to Harkin’s response Parking is awful. The seats are gone before you get there and the prices are beyond. Here is what I want to hear Hey Joel «we are doing a 5.50 Matinée like AMC «We are going to bring back the Indie moves once in a while. Give me action not more words to cover up the mess. PS I live in midtown NOT driving to Shea and Scottsdale Road But thanks for suggesting that as a solution.

yeah the ticket is $ 14 dollars. if you want something cheaper, this isn’t your theater. go to the old, moldy dingy theater. stop ragging on these guys. they didn’t «sell out». they aren’t doing a disservice to their loyal customers. Heck, I am one of those customers and have been for years now (own multiple free popcorn shirts). These homies stepped up their game with this miraculous monument to cinema. its a celebration to film

Okay let me be clear… this venue really deserves a 4 star rating because of it’s ambiance but the $ 14.00 all day movie price is absurd. So let me start with the parking… you should really enter off of Scottsdale RD… enter the garage entrance… make the first left and then look right for an empty spot. This area is the best place to park if your going to this venue because it is right near the elevator and escalators. Once you enter the mall and decide whether to take the escalator or the elevator up you will see the theater right away. You can either get you tickets via a fandango kiosk or walk up the customer service counters and buy your tickets directly. When you purchase your tickets you can select the seats you want on a touch screen right there in front of the customer service agent. You pay your $ 14.00 bucks and your in… however this is what you get:
There is a restaurant/​Bar setup (you have to pay)
There are the concession stands (you have to pay)
There is a very nice balcony to sit and wait on your movie I guess (it’s free)
There is floor lighting right near the entrance to the theater… nice touch I guess
Every theater has RECLINING seats and plenty of legroom (included in the price)
The bathrooms… at least for the men… are very nice. (they are free as well… LOL)
The screens are large however they don’t come with DOLBY ATMOS like the CINE CAPRI theaters however the ambiance is pretty good all things considered.
Here is my real issue though… the seats share armrests… which are wide and very nice… but imagine sharing that with an irritating kid or irritating adult for that matter. I can’t see paying 14 bucks for that so I HIGHLY recommend selecting the seats next to the handicap because usually someone will be with them and they would have to select the seat next to them. Example being… we had seats C-​6 and C-​7 which were part of a 4 seat section. There was a seat on each end of us for a handicap person so since we knew no one would be sitting there we chose these seats because again they would be for a companion.
The theater also has seating issues seems like on a regular basis… in fact we got free passes to this theater because of a seating and a power surge issue within the mall my wife had when she went to see a movie here last week. (NOTE: The power outage issue happened 20 minutes into my wife’s movie for theaters 6 – 14 but not 1 – 5 so I found that odd myself). All in all if you just want to spend 14 bucks because you are at the mall… have nothing else to do… and want to see a movie… then this is your place. I won’t be returning unless there is more offered for my hard earned 14 bucks. Eat, Drink, and be Merry my Friends!!!
EDIT of this post: I forgot to add this little note because I know people are going to have issues with this review but here is one more important fact. The Scottsdale 101 Harkins in North Scottsdale offers the CINE CAPRI like I mentioned earlier but you can go to a Matinée for 8 bucks or less and the regular shows are only 11.50. More importantly if you are a member of the loyalty program you can get your a Drink and medium popcorn for $ 1.50 total. There are no reclining seats of course but you decide: 13 bucks for large screen experience… popcorn…and a soda VS. 14 bucks with just reclining seats… hmmmmm…seems to be a no-​brainer to me.

After returning to this theater, I had to take a star off. The $ 14 ticket price (with no matinée pricing) is just insane, and an extremely cynical business move on the part of Harkins. This theater is the only theater in Phoenix to show the smaller indie fare, so for serious film fans like myself paying the $ 14 ticket price is my only option other than waiting for DVD.
In addition I find the seating uncomfortable. I’m a tall person (6’4″) and my feet just hang off the end of the recliner.
I have also noticed that Harkins (at least at this location) has no PSA of any kind about cell phone usage before the movie starts. While most people are respectful, it only takes a few to ruin the experience. Someones phone rang in my last movie here, and they answered it! I don’t know if a PSA would help, but it certainly couldn’t hurt. AMC has at least two before their movies.

Once you watch a movie here you will never step into another theatre, this place is perfect with it’s pretty interiors, super comfy recliners and reserved seating you don’t have to worry about rushing.
They have the usual Harkin fare popcorn, soda, nachos, chicken popcorn etc with the addition of a Bar (oh yeah!).
Agreed that the prices are a little higher $ 17 (for 3D) and $ 14 otherwise but the experience is well worth it.

Eh… nothing too great about this place. I was shocked to see all the low reviews and just assumed people were being snobs. Yet… it really is nothing outstanding. Seats are nice, but other theaters have better. No real difference between his and any other Harkins except seats, booze, and higher ticket price.

I may never go willingly to another theater. I felt so spoiled. I booked the tickets online, selected the seats, had an easy check-​in, and the seats themselves were great.
The food and drink options were pretty good (though still movie theater pricey). And they have a bar! The view from the lobby is pretty neat and everyone was very friendly.
I highly recommend seeing a movie at this location.

The newer Harkins movie theaters at Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall are great. The spacious seats are recline ready (up/​down electric buttons). The best feature about the new theaters are the options for online ticketing as well as choosing specific seats online. When we go to movies in groups (8 – 10 people) the most stressful part is trying to get everyone to the theater at the same time and getting seats together. Online tickets and online seat choices are awesome. At $ 15 = $ 14 per ticket + $ 1 convenience fee this Harkins is pricier than other local theaters. AMC Desert Ridge (also with electric recline seats, online ticketing, online seats) is about $ 10.00 per ticket. This Harkins no longer has matinée or student discounts, which has angered a lot of locals who used to frequent the old theaters.
The lobby is impressive, but a little but cold and sterile. They tried making the lobby snazzy with the tall ceiling and all the different lights, although the lights coming from the floor can be kind of blinding. They have a separate bar area as well as a separate coffee and gelati stand. The bathrooms are also nice. No complaints about the sound and screen quality. It’s great to know that they are continuing to show independent films here as well as the Valley Art theater.

I do really like this theatre. I was one of those people opposed to the idea of closing our beloved camelview across the street, but I am happy that it didn’t go to far and got a major update.
The cons are definitely prices for tickets, I’m sure eventually they’ll do matinée, but right now they just opened and don’t see a point. And also, maybe I’m the only person but the seats aren’t super amazing. In addition, I’ve been here twice and each time someone has been in my seat, and I’ve had to politely ask them to move because they didn’t look at the arrows (that point to each seat). I don’t really mind carrying my stuff into the theatre but I understand why people are put off by them not delivering it.
I love the LGO goodies and cartel coffee. I love the full bar. I love the terrace. Did I mention the LGO goodies? Last time I was here sulking with a piece of red velvet cake and a glass of wine. So if you saw me, sorry but I’m not sorry because it was delicious.
Will I be back? Absolutely.

How cute is this place. I have never been here nor did I know it was here. Ahha. I love the patio. Full bar whaaaaaaatt? I love it.
We watched deadpool. Unm. No. I fell asleep. The seats here aren’t that comfortable. I like the ipic better to be honest. But I wouldn’t mind come here.

An amazing movie going experience that takes all of the terrible things about the movies and replaces them with awesome things for a marginal fee. This is the wave of the future (I hope).

This place shines like new penny! High ceilings, beautiful walls, and classic movie décor. I love the way the sun lights up the place in the daytime and how lovely the patio is in the evening.
They offer the normal movie theater fare in the lobby (popcorn, Buncha Crunch, hot dogs) but they also offer hummus, gelato, Cartel coffee, wine, and beer.
You’re buying seat locations when you get your ticket, so take your time picking out your beer on tap before you amble over to your plush, comfortable recliner. Super nice.
The employees are helpful and friendly. I took the last napkin at the butter and salting area, so I alerted the two employees nearby and they apologized and jumped to not only refill them, but also wipe down the whole area. This place is pretty choice.

There’s no doubt this is a gorgeous theater. Heck, it’s probably the nicest Harkins in the Phoenix area. I love a theater that serves booze. However, I don’t like the fact that they don’t have any sort of matinée pricing (I don’t go to night time movies very often, but I think the $ 14 tickets here are even a little more that most theaters charge for evening shows).
I live halfway between this theater & Tempe Marketplace and like to support Harkins, but the the AMC Esplanade (which is kind of comparable to Camelview) does have matinée pricing and serves booze (that I can have directly delivered to my seat, no less). In the future when I want «that» kind of movie experience that’s probably where I’ll be going.
To be honest, the only thing I really like «better» about this theater compared to others is the seating. It’s the comfy, reclining seats, but yet they’re lined up in a row so you you’re close (but still have a very comfortable space) between you and the people next to you. The one thing I don’t like about the Esplanade is that the seats are so separated if you go with more than two people.
Even though I like that this place has alcohol I don’t like the set-​up. I don’t necessarily mind that they don’t serve you directly at your seat (sometimes it can get annoying having extra people walking up and down the aisles during a movie), but the bar is on the outside of where they take tickets (and it’s further away than the regular snack bar). Not only do you have to carry your drinks a further distance, but you have to put them down to show your ticket to get into the the theater (this is true for ANY concessions since even the main snack bar is on the outside of where they take tickets… not a good setup IMO).
I very rarely came to the movie theater at the old mall location in Fashion Square, but I did go to Camelview (somewhat) regularly. Sure it was old, and needed a face-​lift, but as a lot of movie-​goers in the Phoenix area know it was one of the only places to see indy movies and documentaries. I guess it’s nice those kind of movies are still available here, but honestly, I liked the ancient theater better.

We finally tried the new Camelview!
We love local and were probably too excited to have the option to drink Papago Orange Blossom and Four Peaks 8^th Street Ale with our snacks and excessive popcorn purchases. We were blown away by the addition of the cheese plate, artisan tray, hummus, nachos and gelato to boot! (Held off for future date nights)
I can say going in without expectations helped because we were excited about everything we saw. The recliners were much nicer than Studio Movie Grill and IPic, allowing us to recline almost fully horizontal in the very last row. For a packed movie, we had space around us and comfortable walking space in front of our seats for those seated around us.
It was such a fun experience, we can’t wait to go back for another date night! (and more snacks)

Beautiful theater! Loved the bar and outdoor lounge area. Feels almost like an adult only theater! Went with my husband and another couple last night, and man we have never been more excited to be in a movie theater (hardly ever go out as a couple, have a toddler at home) The only bad thing I have to say is that the bathrooms weren’t as clean as i’d imagine they would be. Recliners during movie, super comfortable, enjoyed our alcoholic beverages during movie
When that night out without the kiddos comes, this place is must!

If I weren’t a senior, I probably would knock off a star or two because the movie that costs me $ 8 is $ 14 for younger folks. And that is just too much for the extras you get here.
The big plus at this ultra-​modern theater is the seating. Wide, comfortable, huge amounts of leg room, reclining. You can really enjoy the movie and never have to have people’s heads in your line of sight.
Of course it is new and clean. But the décor is austere rather than warm and inviting — old time venues often have a special vibe that adds to the overall experience, but here it feels like you are in the space terminal of the movie 2001. The popcorn is popcorn, the sodas are sodas, and the rest of the food — who cares, I didn’t come here for a meal. But all this really doesn’t matter. I come for the movie, and I like the seats, the screen, and the sound. For $ 8, this is as good as it gets.

$ 14 ticket at any time means I’ll never go back to this theater ever and no matter what!!!

First off ill say its a beautifully constructed upscale feeling theater. Simply awesome. The curved screens are dope.
Now for the bad.
$ 14 a ticket is absurd. I can go to the AMC on mill for $ 5.39. That’s almost triple the price (a nighttime ticket is still $ 7 so its still double)
The auditoriums are nice and have tons of seats but the seats are way more narrow than the AMC recliners and not as comfy. Plus tou cannot raise the arm rests.
Valiant effoet Harkins but i will see the big movies at my local AMC until you reduce prices.
As much as it will suck to miss the indie flicks $ 14 is video on demand/​vudu prices. Or i can hope the film bar gets the flicks.
The indie crowd was mostly senior citizens on a fixed income. You can say bye to them too

This is the only place to see a movie. I love the assigned seating and reclined seats. This theater is one of luxury movie theaters. I love lobby area bar and outside patio. Empolyees are professional and the theater is very clean. I like project movie posters as well.

Comfortable seats, happy they are not separated in clusters/​groups like other theaters with recliners (works well with an odd numbered group).
Love the different seating options available while waiting for the movie.
$ 14 after 6pm movies is a bit steep, suggest at least a senior or student discount.

One of my new favorite spots to see a movie. The terrace alone is worth visiting, specially during this time of year when the weather is sooooo beautiful. The first time we came here was last December, just after Christmas. The whole family came to see Star Wars (of course!) The kids loved the reclining seats, they even brought their blankets from home.
This week, my husband and I decided to come see Spotlight, which had been on my list for a while, but after the Oscar win, I couldn’t just wait for the dvd. Since it had been out for a while, I decided to skip the online purchase. We got there just 10 minutes before the start of the previous and there were plenty of the good seats available. Really, I don’t think there are any bad seats anymore, since they have all reclining big seats. We ordered some wine and margaritas and an artisanal plate. This is a great way to watch movies, so civilized. It is a little bit of a drive for me 23 miles each way, but well worth it. Now, if only they would convert their Scottsdale 101 location…

It’s hard to rate the new Camelview theatre. On the one hand, it’s a beautiful theatre, so it’s hard to rate less than 3 stars, but on the other hand, it doesn’t offer much for the $ 14 ticket price in my eyes.
First, adult ticket prices are always $ 14 or higher. There are no matinée discounts, nor are there any child/​senior discounts for shows after 6 pm. There is no in-​seat ordering which doesn’t really bother me, but I would expect it at this price. There are no 21+ theatres. The only thing deterring your sitting next to a crying baby is the ticket price. The only parking is garage parking if your movie ends after mall closing, and that’s just creepy at night. I would be uncomfortable if I were alone, as I didn’t see any increased security. I was also confused upon entering the garage as to which way to go to park closest to the theatre entrance.
It’s also strictly reserved seating which is both good and bad. It negates the ability to decide spontaneously to see a movie as you could very well show up to a sold out movie. If you want to ensure a decent seat, add on a convenience charge to buy your ticket online.
So what do you get for $ 14? Some additional food/​beverage options. They do have some LGO treats at the small café (which does not serve meals, only small plates) and a gelato bar. And an uncomfortable recliner.
The recliners are my biggest disappointment in fact. Not only are they more uncomfortable than a traditional seat, but Harkins did not do the seating layout in pairs or quads. Although you do naturally get more leg room and therefore, the auditoriums are smaller, it’s a standard seating plan with shared armrests. So instead of sitting next to a total stranger, you get to lie next to one. YUCK!
Will I go again? Probably, but only because it is the closest theater to me. However, yesterday, we drove to Tempe because we decided to go last minute, and it wasn’t worth the hassle (nor did we have the time) to go through the logistics of online ticketing and parking.

I LOVE Harkins. However, at this location there is NO MATINEE DISCOUNT? ?
A movie at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday morning is $ 14? Same price as 9:00 p.m. Complete nonsense.
This location is completely remodeled, beautiful, but, do yourself a Favor, go somewhere else to see your daytime Movies.

This was the first and only time I’ll be going to this theater. First of all I can’t really even call it a theater, it’s more like a cocktail lounge that happens to play some movies down its sterile and cold hallways. No movie cutouts, no warm, inviting look, just lots of wood paneling, and overly sharpened, poor looking, digital movie posters. The luxury seats weren’t as comfortable as cinemark down in Mesa.
Oh and speaking of cinemark, this is about 5 dollars a ticket more! 14 dollars for your basic movie ticket! Are you out of your mind? IMAX3D at AZ Mills is 12. Not only is this one of the worst feeling theaters I’ve ever been to I’m also paying a premium price for it but, you know… it’s Scottsdale.

We’ve been planning to visit the new Harkins theatre for a while now struggling with finding a movie showing that we actually wanted to watch. If you are able to find a movie here that you want to see in the matinée hours, then you have to consider this theater.
Matinée ticket are a whopping $ 14 a piece per adult non-​3d with same price for matinée prices. Fortunately, you can just trade in a Ultimate VIP Harkins pass (available at Costco) for an adult matinée ticket and instead of an absurd overpriced ticket, you get a moderately more expensive ticket to be able to reserve your recliner.
Yes, leather recliners.
You can fully recline and people should be able to walk in front of you without you adjusting (though for some reason I always felt my feet were hanging off the edge in everyone’s way). Armrests can pull up.
For complaints about parking in the reviews … Indoor parking and you don’t even have to validate your ticket. Especially with the summers or rain that we have, that’s golden.
We have the basic theaters where you buy your popcorn and then fight people in general seating. We in Phoenix metro have the fancier theaters that offer nice seats, waiter service, and dinners/​lunches. This fits nicely in the middle of these in terms of price and quality of venue and as long as you do the Costco Harkins VIP matinée route, you should be able to enjoy your movie night, er afternoon.

This is the best movie theater I have been to in Phoenix. I love Harkins loyalty program and the fact you can reserve seats is terrific! The theaters gives an ideal viewing experience.
I see some review where people complain about the price of tickets. You pay for what you get. It is well worth it! I purchase the loyalty cup and T-​shirt. If I see 12 movies in a year, it is costing me $ 16 for a ticket, soda, and a medium popcorn.

The Fashion Square 24 is awful. Bring back Camelview 5. No senior rate after 6. Cost $ 14, you go to be kidding. NO olne was there, more employees than patrons. Dan, you blew this one., oh the parking, NUTS

The new Harkins at Fashion Square is an absolutely beautiful theatre. It does not even compare to theatres at home for us in Calgary — you Americans have it pretty good!
Pros: EVERY seat is a gigantic leather recliner — unlike other premium theatres in Scottsdale such as Studio Movie Grille and iPic where you have to pay extra for automated recliners. We visited twice in one week, and neither show was overly packed. Even if the show was full, there are wide aisles and you would not be uncomfortable.
Cons: You pay $ 2 extra per ticket to purchase online, and they do not offer a discount for matinees. But $ 14 for an adult is still cheaper than iPic for reserved seating.
Our tip would be go early if you can to purchase your tickets and select your seats in advance.

Booooo! It was so expensive to come here. I live close to Harkins Tempe Marketplace but wanted to see a certain movie only playing here. After driving 20 extra minutes, we had to actually search the fashion mall looking for the theater because signs weren’t clearly put into place yet. On top of that, we had to deal with an extremely rude mall security guard ((which I know isn’t the theater’s fault, but added to the experience and ambiance)) just to get to the front of theater. Then having to spend a surprising $ 14 per ticket, I was just extremely disappointed.
Other theaters offer reclining seats for half the price. So, waiting for the movie to come out elsewhere or released on dvd will save you money and save you from a trip to the mall.
I’m not giving up on Harkins, just this location. I still love you, Harkins!

Such a good replacement of the old Harkins… I’m a huge fan of luxury movie theaters so I may be biased. Normally we go to iPic but I think we found our new theater (which is also so much closer to home). Tickets are pretty pricey ($ 15 ea when ordering online) but you do get to reserve your seats, which makes it easier. Also in the lobby area there’s a bar, an outside patio area, and normally movie theater concessions. And yes you can bring the drinks into the theater, wooo! The theater was really nice, big comfy seats that reclined. I will definitely be coming back here!
Also: they were passing out SAMPLES of cookies & desserts. All the desserts are from LGO, love love love.

How dare they try and charge me $ 14 for a matinée?
There are no matinée prices unless your a senior citizen.
I do not think that picking my seats when I buy tickets is worth an extra 7 bucks.
We left, We turned around and left a movie theater and unless I’m in the movie, I will never be paying that price point to attend a flick.
Time to Rise up — Harkins just proved it’s greed, but hey there are about 40 other places that charge normal movie prices and trust me — Sisters or 90% of all movies are not going to be any better on a curved screen.

Amazing theatre. Overpriced. And they play about a third of what is in theaters everywhere else.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of times to choose from for movies. But the fact that the movie «Sisters» came out over three weeks ago and they have 8 different showing a day but they aren’t playing other movies that are newly released is almost as bad as paying 14 $ to go see a movie in a comfortable chair.
Also, the assigned seating has screwed me over more than once. There have been Five open seats in a theatre all individual seating. That’s five tickets they miss out on selling because of the assigned seating.

What happened to Camelview is a goddamned heartbreak. Camelview used to be the theater in town you could trust and you would know it would have all of the limited release movies you want to see.
But, now? At its given price per ticket ($ 14 for a matinée on Saturday), I just can’t afford to go anymore. It’s just a bummer. I mean, there are places else to see these movies, but Camelview is the first place they go. Everything else ends up getting them a week or two later.

Only going with one star because I can’t post none. This theater is the only one to my knowledge in Harkins chain that does not give military discounts at any time we were told by the manager. Very disappointed. And I have lived in the neighborhood since before the original Camelview opened and have enjoyed both theaters for years, but I will drive to Tempe Marketplace or Shea now. I always thought the Harkins family was supportive of the military and patronized the theater because of it. I know many retired military in the neighborhood and I hope they will take note and frequent other theaters also.

I love this place! I love that there is assigned seating when tickets are purchased. Majority of the people seated in front of us weren’t seated in their correct seats but it happens… too much always too much.
Love the reclined seats. Sound and viewing is ideal. I was once a huge movie goer but not so much now. I usually would head out to the Harkins theater at Christown mall because it’s conveniently close to home… but will head out to this particular cinema and treat myself to future movie viewings.

Mixed feelings on this new theater.
First, the good things. The space is gorgeous, including inside the theater. I loved the scrolling movie poster marquee they have on the walls. The screen was huge as well, I’ve never seen a theater with that many reclining seats in one screen.
Things I didn’t like: I didn’t care for the seats overall. About an hour into the movie I was pretty uncomfortable. The food options are underwhelming for a place like this. Just some appetizer like things you can get to pick at. (cheese plates, etc) The beer selection at the bar was very disappointing. Basically Bud Light, Sam Adams, and a couple of Four Peaks. The AMC Esplanade has more interesting choices. (also not great, but it’s AMC)
This theater will be polarizing. As a frequenter of the old Camelview 5, I know they catered to an older crowd. I’m 35, and I was usually the youngest person there. That audience is not going to like the higher ticket prices, trickier parking (although not terrible), and bigger crowds. (since this theater is showing wide release movies in addition to the smaller fare) And honestly, I sympathize. It was nice having a completely separate theater for those kinds of films. There were no teenagers rolling up deciding what to see spur of the moment, it was a more sophisticated crowd.
As long as this location continues to show the smaller/​more indy type movies I will be there. I hope Harkins maintains it’s commitment to keeping those at Camelview. I have a feeling attendance may drop sharply though.

Nope, wasn’t cool with Harkins killing Camelview 5. After experiencing it’s replacement I’m definitely not cool with it for the following reasons; (1) fewer indie/​foreign films, (2)$ 14 tickets vs. $ 7.50, (3) it’s got nothing on Cinemark unless you’re a drunk or huffing nail polish, (4) poor parking, (5) less intersection between the viewer, the film, & the filmmaker, (6) less personal and intimate (it lacks character & intimacy), & (7) did I mention $ 14.00 a f*cking ticket!!!

Hardcore filmgoers like me lost the only real gem in the valley for viewing good film.

This place is so well designed and furnished it truly is a premier theater. It has an upscale look and feel and of course everything is shiny and new. I hope it holds up well over the years because I could see this being my new go to place for movie première. The lobby area also includes expanded concessions that go beyond the normal popcorn and candy selections. The chairs in the theater are recliners although they are the most comfortable versions I’ve ever experienced, they are however an big improvement over standard stadium seats. Your next movie outing should be here, the pics don’t seem to do it justice.

I feel grateful to live down the street from this new luxury movie house. Ample room to get to your seats even when everyone’s already in their reclined position. No food service in the actual theater but a modern bar, lattes, gourmet ice-​cream and. .. LGO sweets in the lobby. (Are you kidding me?!) I heard they will integrate the less commercial movies from the old Camelview into this one as well. Yes it’s $ 14.00 minimum even for matinees, but go ahead and reserve your seats online and flash them a text ticket to get in. This a luxury experience I feel blessed to be a part of.
Amazing, Harkins!

By now I am sure Dan Harkins thinks he has heard it all, maybe he has, because by now he may have stopped listening.
In most cases a big brand new state of the art movie theater would be amazing to have in your neighborhood especially for a movie goer like me, however when that theater replaces your 2 favorite theaters and doubles the price of a matinée ticket, it’s just not good.
It’s true, the New Camleview is pretty, and I might be showing my age, but the new digs just cant replace FS7 and the original Camleview, and its not just the price. Parking is not as good as well as having the food court to meet up in. When I would go to the original Camleview it seemed like an event. On my first and last visit to The New FS Camleview I just shook my head and my friends agreed.
I watch almost all of my movies during daytime hours and have always appreciated the matinée prices but alas that’s no longer the option in my neighborhood. I also noticed the great art house films have been replaced with the blockbuster de jour on half of the screens.
I imagine Harkens didn’t do this blindly, they did the research and checked the demographics, over and over, but they some how missed me, the regular movie goer, that would see 6 or 7 movies a month that’s about $ 84 for the new place a month plus concessions and invited friends that wont be going back to this theater any time soon.

HARKINS SOLD OUT!!! Whatever happened to just going to the movies?!
Scottsdale did not need another hoity-​toity theater with a bar and reclining seats.
Complaints:
1. Pricing– $ 14 is outrageous. Neither the students who used to frequent Harkins Fashion Square nor the elderly patrons of Camelview 5 can afford these prices. And what about families? $ 60 just for the tickets for a family of four? No thank you.
2. Seats– no one needs to recline into a full horizontal position in a public place! If you want to lie down and watch a movie, stay home. Also, the way the rows and seats are labeled (for the ridiculous new assigned seating), is ineffective because the numbers and letters aren’t lit up once the movie starts. So latecomers are pulling out their phones to find their seats, which is distracting.
3. Restrooms– in effectively labeled and hard to find.
4. Parking– confusing, inconvenient, and further walk. Not gonna fly with elderly clientele.
5. Doors– only single door entrances to each theater. Creates backlog of people trying to get out, who then have to navigate around the 5 – 7 employees waiting to get into clean the now more difficult to clean, elaborate theater.
Overall: Disgusted with Harkins and will never go back to this theater. I’d rather go to the new theater at the pavilions even if it has the same prices, simply for the convenience.

This movie theater is excellent. I love fancypants movie theaters, and this cinema delivered. Yes, I would like to order alcohol from a classy-​looking bar and take it into the theater. 6 oz or 9 oz wine pours AND one can also buy the bottle. Yes, I would like the seats to be leather and comfortable and to choose them at the time I purchase the tickets. Yes, the bathroom should be aesthetically awesome and selfie-​deserving. $ 14 for an adult ticket in the evening is on the expensive side, but yes, I’ll pay it happily.
Some more detailed remarks: my boyfriend and I received excellent front line ticket service from someone who looked like a manager… or was just rocking a three-​piece tweed suit because that’s how he rolls. We wanted to see Star Wars in the theater with the biggest screen, and he gave thorough and helpful advice. He didn’t mind showing us the seating charts for three screenings.
The seats: super comfy and just the right amount of relaxing but not so relaxing that one falls asleep. In fancy movie theaters where I see an action blockbuster with the boyf, I have a very bad habit of getting too comfy and falling asleep. But the seats in this theater have just the right amount of lumbar support, so I could still recline but feel alert. The seats don’t have extendable tray tables, but that’s fine with me because I’m of the opinion that fewer smelly hot snacks in theaters is better. It is also possible to raise up the armrests on each side so that one can more easily snuggle with one’s seatmate.
I hadn’t been to the mall before, so finding the theater took some time. But if you park in the brown parking lot (not the green!) and go to the third floor, where the entrance is, you will have no trouble finding it.

It was pretty cool to see Star Wars The Force Awakens on its opening weekend at the newest and nicest theater in town. The theater is located at the Northeast end of Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall and you can enter from the mall or directly from the parking garage on the North side of the mall. The theater itself is very nice. The lobby includes seating areas, a bar with dessert selections, an outdoor patio, customer service, and a concession stand with standard movie fare like popcorn, sodas, and candies. What it is not is a movie theater with waiter service where they deliver food and drinks to your seat and that’s fine with me, I’ve been to those places and while the waiters are usually fairly discreet, the other patrons trying to flag them down, pick up and put down their food, or sending back orders is what is generally very annoying. If you want dinner and movie that’s fine, but do it somewhere else!
As for the theater experience itself, it was amazing! First of all, there is reserved seating so you can select where you want to sit and know it will be available. Secondly, the screens are curved for optimal viewing and the sound quality is amazing. Finally, the seats recline… and this isn’t just leaning back, it’s motorized loungers with footrests that come out and backs that go back so far you’re almost lying down. In fact, the only drawback I can foresee is that because this theater will be showing art films, and the average age of the audience at those films is fairly old, it’s quite possible that some people may find themselves falling asleep or sitting next to a snorer in this theater.
Overall though, this is an amazing place to see a movie and a worthy successor to the original Camelview. Once again we should be grateful that we have a chain like Harkins based in the Valley which provides us with great options for moviegoing.

Wanted to be at the ribbon-​cutting at 5:30 pm, but found myself at the theater at around 7. The theater lobby was packed! I had thought of buying my ticket online and paying the $ 1 service fee, but then decided that if I couldn’t choose my seats online (like I can on iPic’s website), then I’ll just take my chances and buy the ticket at the theater. There are several kiosks available where you may purchase tickets so that you don’t have to line up at the registers. I am not certain that you may punch in your code into these kiosks to claim your ticket passes– all I know is that theater reps were telling people in line to «get your confirmation codes ready» for presentation at the register lines. Since there was only one seat available for the 7:20 3D showing of SW (all the way in the front), I asked for the 8:10 showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 3D, which only had two, or three seats available, and I chose one in the C aisle, towards the middle.
While one Unilocal reviewer lamented that he and his girlfriend were disappointed in learning that this theater doesn’t offer «in-​theater service,» I applaud Harkin’s decision to keep distractions down! I rarely watch movies at Studio Movie Grill now, because of the servers constantly walking in front of me, and I do not want to hear audience members placing their meal orders while I’m trying to watch the movie. Also, certain food odors can make me feel ill. In-​theater service seemed like a great idea to me in the beginning, but there are too many negatives for me to appreciate it. I’d rather dine elsewhere and then go to the movies! I am happy to read here that I’m able to take a glass of wine, or anything else I may enjoy from the bar Verite Lounge, be it coffee from CARTEL [1], or ice cream from LA GRANDE ORANGE [1] into the auditorium! With all the grand opening commotion (lines for tickets, lines to get photographed with stormtroopers, lines to order at Verite), I had not the time to find this out myself.
There are 14 rooms equipped with lounge chairs that recline. Yes, ALL of the chairs recline! Which explains why ticket prices start at $ 14. 3D tickets are $ 17. Dan Harkins, the eldest son of Dwight «Red» Harkins, was there to welcome us at the 8:10 showing. He said we were the first to sit at these chairs to watch the first showing of Star Wars– the first half of that sentence I believed, since we probably were the first to watch anything played in auditorium #14, but the second half confused me, since I had passed up on seeing the 7:20 pm showing of SW, but I let it slide. It was nice to listen to Dan Harkins, who took over the company, which was in «near bankruptcy» in 1974, when his father passed away. (His father opened College Theatre in 1940, now called Harkins Valley Art, and Camelview 5 in 1973. All biographical info I’m including here is according to Wikipedia.) Do you know that there are currently 30 Harkins locations in five states (Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, and California)?
Prices are a bit steep [2], but I really enjoyed the two and a half hours I spent lying on that lounge chair, and I was suffering from sinus headaches the whole time! The front area of the auditorium had a lot of space, but I found aisle C to be a little too close [3]. I’ll have to check out the chairs behind and update my opinion on this [4]. I hope to try a cup of coffee and some ice cream on my next trip, as well!

Distracting (lasted throughout the entire film) and a little disconcerting… May have to reserve seats closer to the stage, as I didn’t notice these vibes in aisle C.

Went to grand opening for Star Wars 3D. We live across the street at Optima so we’ve been anxiously awaiting this new theater to open. We were disappointed to learn this is not a «full service» theater like Ipic or AMC Esplanade. It’s kind of a hybrid service model — yes they serve alcohol and a limited menu, but you need to buy the food/​drinks and carry them to your seat with you.
So we expected a busy opening night, got there early and went to the bar. There was a huge line to get food items so we asked the bartender if we could order at the bar which we did. He then told us we had to get in that giant line to pick up our food when our name was called. This turned into a 40 minute ordeal with half of our party missing the start of Star Wars 3D. Food items were coming up and they were yelling out names, and then the items were sitting there getting cold. People eventually started grabbing items that weren’t theirs. Once the food was ready, it was difficult to carry back through 2 sets of doors into the theater — we asked an employee to open the door and he refused until we practically begged him. Then he walked away without opening the second set of doors. Ugh.
Once inside the theater you realize that while the recliners are very comfortable, they are not designed with any sort of table or surface to put your food items on besides a drink holder in the arm rest. So now you are trying to balance your food items on your lap. Ackward.
The other issue is the very limited and unimaginative menu. Corn dogs, hot dogs, pizza, nachos — that kind of stuff. Meh.
Looks like we’ll be heading back to AMC Esplanade. Wuff!

This place is the crown jewel of the Harkin’s empire! What a beautiful spot!

While the tickets are $ 14 it is WELL worth every penny. Treat yo self! This is the most well appointed theater in the state. It’s perfect in every way. Best of all, you have a reserved seat!!! Regardless if you get there ten minutes late or 30 min early– that is YOUR seat! Is that worth a few extra bucks? Hell yes! No more rushing and worrying all the good seats will be taken. It’s just perfect. Grab a cocktail before your film and just relax.
Support local business and check this place out. Spending money at locally owned businesses means your dollars stay here and we are supporting fellow Arizonans. There is no finer theater in all the land– why go anywhere else?
