I hadn’t seen one of these in years. And how things have changed.
The place I used to do karaōke years ago always had this paper. You’ll find that’s a bit of a trend. If they do Karaōke or Texas Hold ‘Em, they most likely have this newspaper. So, after I’d put in a few song requests, if my friends weren’t there yet I’d end up reading this paper to pass the time. It was a thin little thing back then and it had lots of information about neighborhood bars all over the city.
While what they do hasn’t changed much — it’s now twice the size it used to be. And the thing is filled with pictures. You can see the recent Citywide karaōke champion in several pictures in the recent issue. While everything is black and white, it gives you a great feeling for some of these awesome neighborhood spots before you ever go there.
Best part — for all of its regular bars, it provides a full list if what is happening at each one of the bars every night of the week. Ladies night. Karaōke. Pool Tournament. Comedy night. It’s all right here. Pretty darn handy actually since so many of these small clubs don’t have web sites.
It comes out 2x a month on Thursdays and it’s completely free. If you are a fan of dive bars and neighborhood spots — you might want to pick one up to find a new hang out in your area.
