Arizona’s #1 Tech Class for Kids 6 to 14. Specializing in computer programming and game design courses, CodaKid classes include our flagship Modding for Minecraft, 3D Modeling and Animation, and Game Design with Gamemaker.

CodaKid offers after school, weekend, and summer tech camps. All CodaKid classes are taught in small groups with hand-​on instruction from our expert staff of coders and game designers. Private classes and special events are also available.

In 2020, there will be 1M unfilled tech jobs in the US. CodaKid aims to inspire Arizona’s future technologists and give AZ kids a head start.

CodKid’s founder David Dodge is a former video game designer with credits on over 30 games for Sega and Sony platforms.

History

Established in 2014.

CodaKid was founded in October 2014 with the mission of providing engaging computer programming classes to elementary and middle school students. Our founder David Dodge is a veteran video game developer, game designer, and software architect having worked for nearly a decade at Sega of America, Cyclone Studios, and 3DO in Silicon Valley. In addition, he founded SurePrep Learning, an Inc 500⁄5000 tutoring company based in Scottsdale in 2005, as well as Tutorware, a business management software for tutoring and test prep companies throughout the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

CodaKid believes that computer programming is a new and essential form of literacy, and that children can become active creators of technology rather than just passive users. Kids love CodaKid because they learn coding principles in a fun, dynamic environment, and parents love it because their children develop a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and critical thinking skills.

We got a group on for this for our 10 year old daughter. The environment was kid friendly and high tech. The staff were super friendly. She had a great time and was able to make Minecraft mods on her first night. She had a blast and was eager to come come back!

My son just turned 7 and we thought this may be a neat activity for him. We dropped him off on a Saturday night, not knowing what to expect or if we would be called that he wanted to come home. He is usually a bit shy. We walked to dinner a few blocks away and came back with about 20 minutes till the end of class.
My shy 7 year old saw me at the window of the classroom, smiled, waved and went right back to his coding and when the class was over a few minutes later told us how fun it was that he could not wait to do it again. Needless to say, my wife signed him up for 3 more classes and he can’t wait to do more

Took my daughter and her BFF to the intro class since they are both Minecraft addicts. They absolutely loved it! They came out of the class (as did most kids we saw) so excited to talk about everything they had learned and could not wait to get home and use what they learned. All of the instructors were super friendly and worked great with the kids. The only downfall (for us) was the distance from our home. Hope they can get another location further east soon as our kids would be there often!

My husband and I are so thankful for this awesome place and it’s incredible staff! Ask my 11-​year-​old daughter where her favorite place to «hang out» is… she’ll tell you CodaKid! And how lucky are we that she has picked a positive, learning environment. I am so impressed with CodaKid’s owner, David Dodge. He has designed classes and programs to teach our kids what they are most passionate about AND has selected a staff that is engaged and dedicated to making sure our kids have fun while learning how to code. We are so lucky to have a place Ike CodaKid available to us in the Valley!

Wow! I really can’t say enough about how positive an experience this was for my son. On a whim, I took my 8 year old son to one of CodaKid’s «code-​a-​thon» events, which occur every Friday evening. I was blown away by the entire experience!
Through the help of the CodaKid instructors, my son made an actual working computer game! He learned how to input and understand how code works as a way of telling the computer what he wanted it to do. I’m not sure I can even put a proper value on the experience… it was that wonderful.
I believe that understanding the practical application of coding is going to be very important for our youths’ futures. Our world is increasingly run by software and the need for experienced coders is only going to increase. Jobs in this field will be plenty! More importantly (at least for now), it was tons of fun for my boy. I never would have thought that my son could express himself and be so creative while essentially writing software! He’s been twice now, and he can’t wait to go back!
The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It is apparent that this is a group that truly likes what they do and they are darn good at it. They made my son feel right at home. And the best part… seeing my son’s face when he was able to show me HIS creation. He was as proud of himself, as I was of him. You really can’t put a dollar figure on that now– can you? I can’t wait to see what my boy does next. We are definitely going back!
