Specialties
Biz in a Boxx is an educational tool that gives kids and teens (ages 7 and up) hands-on experience in starting and running their own business. These young entrepreneurs are able to acquire practical skills they can use throughout their lifetime.
History
Established in 2008.
Biz in a Boxx was created by Melissa Rose who wanted a fun and easy way to teach her young daughter entrepreneurship. Melissa knew that if she could engage her daughter in starting a business without micro-managing, her daughter would learn valuable life lessons and skills that she wouldn’t find in school.
Over the past five years, Biz in a Boxx has been used by children ages 7 and older all across the globe. The company has also developed and implemented its classroom-specific SciPreneur programs that combine science and entrepreneurship with an emphasis on innovation.

Melissa R.
Business Owner
Melissa’s entrepreneurial spirit manifested itself when she was young. In a 4th grade science class she learned about heat and molecules by making hard candy. That gave her an idea to make home-made lollipops that she and her older sister could sell to the kids at school. After a few months they were caught and the candy was banned from school. Melissa then made and sold cinnamon flavored toothpicks at school figuring they were easier to conceal. She got in trouble for those, too. It wasn’t until her junior year of college that Melissa would try her hand at entrepreneurship again when she started a marketing firm (because she couldn’t find an internship.)
A graduate of the University of Arizona, Melissa holds a BA in Journalism and an MBA. She serves on various STEM, education and financial literacy committees as well as develops sponsor programming for the AZ SciTech Festival.
