My passion for the sport began when I was 6 years old. After 11 years of competitive gymnastics, I made the natural transition to coaching. I have been a gymnastics instructor for over 20 years. Many athletes have won medals and national titles while under my instruction.

I currently work at Circle of Friends Preschool as a gymnastics movement and cheer coach. Not only am I a USA Gymnastics Certified Member in five disciplines; Artistic Boys and Artistic Girls Gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics, Tumbling & Trampoline, and All-​Star Cheerleading. It is a privilege to witness the sense of accomplishment children have when learning skills, the joy kids have when entering the gym, as well as the pride parents have in their children’s success. Personally, there is no greater joy than watching children develop physically and mentally while having fun and staying active.

customer service is awful. initial phone contact (with the owner I believe?) was rude to say the least. had initial class and not sure we’ll be back. absolutely no interaction or follow-​thru from staff. disappointing. apparently they don’t care enough to reach out and want the kids to come back and have fun. the instructor was nice at least.

Vargas Academy is great! I am only familiar with their Competition Cheer team, which my daughter was on last year, but couldn’t have been more pleased with the organization, skill-​building, friendliness, and overall feel of the gym. Huge shout-​out to coaches Vern and Michelle!

I was never really one to spend lots of money on extracurricular activities for my toddlers (4 and 3) but once we discovered Vargas Academy, we just couldn’t stop going. It is a really gorgeous facility, big and clean with lots of great things to use. But what really made it for us was Coach Vern. Coach Vern completely engages the kids, which is something I haven’t come across in any of the other gymnastic classes we’ve tried. The kids are constantly busy, constantly moving, and engaged. Which, when it is a class of six youngsters is not an easy task. He really takes the time to do some one on one time too; the gym rings with «Coach Vern! Watch me!!» whenever we are there. It is a really really well run program. I’m pretty sure we will continue doing the gymnastic classes here for years to come. Don’t hesitate to take your toddler here– it’s wonderful.

We love Vargas gymnastics! Vern has the right combination of enthusiasm and structure. Our daughter loves going to gymnastics every week! Vern’s assistant, Stephanie is also very helpful! The studio is impeccably clean too! We are so happy to have Vargas in Scotts Valley!

Vargas is a fantastic place to enroll your child in a gymnastics class. The teachers are phenomenal, we are partial to Vern, the owner. The gym always appears clean, and is very large to allow for lots of different kids of tumbling and trampoline activities to go on concurrently. It is a little pricier than some of the smaller gyms, but what you get for your $ makes it totally worth it. My son has gained confidence, strength, flexibility, and skills in his time there (he has been a student since the gym opened in 2010)

Vargas academy is a fantastic place for cheer, dance, tumbling & recreational fun! The staff is top notch and the facility is new and beautiful and well equipt! We have been thrilled to have been a part of the Vargas family since it’s opening! Won’t find a better location to let your kids burn off some energy while gaining strength, coordination, flexibility as well as building good relationships with their peers.
