Scotts Valley Gym is a family friendly facility that offers a complete weight room, cardio area, locker room with showers, child care room, smoothie /​coffee bar, day spa offering facials, endermologie, massage and accupuncture. The gym also has an aerobics room and offers Zumba™, Cycle, Yoga, Pilates, Step, Outdoor /​Indoor Bootcamps, and other speciality classes. Scotts Valley Gym has several experienced personal trainers to help meet the goals of our clients.

History

Established in 2011.

Scotts Valley Gym was formerly Dave Draper’s World Gym. Dave Draper former Mr. America, Mr. World, and Mr. Universe founded the gym in 1987. The Gym changed hands twice through the years before Erik Florio took over as managing partner October of 2011. Erik looked into keeping the World Gym brand but with World Gym being purchased by Planet Fitness, he decided to rebrand the club as Scotts Valley Gym and move toward a more family oriented atmosphere adding Zumba, Step, Pilates, Yoga, Kettlbell and other speciality classes while at the same time keeping some of the history of the club by leaving many of the Dave Draper Mike Katz and Arnold Schwarzenegger photos that some of the long time original members love so much. The club has a great mix of young, middle aged, and older clientele of all fitness ability levels and is a good cross section of the Scotts Valley, San Lorenzo Valley and Santa Cruz demographics.

Love this gym and excited about the upgrades w the new «functional fitness» area, members’ amenities and IMS Academy moving in. New school meets old school here and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I love Scotts Valley Gym. I have been a member since 2004. It keeps evolving and offering new benefits to their members. At this time they are housing a Mixed Martial Arts Academy which I THOUGHT would impinge on my use of the dance studio area with mirrors but, they are allowing members to RESPECTFULLY use what is now essentially a Dojo if you can remove your shoes and be careful with the materials and equipment. I simply use the space to practice salsa and zumba with my iPod and I do so barefoot which preserves the flooring. I love that this is a no frills gym and serious trainers work out here. It is an inspiration. Additionally all of the employees do a GREAT job of keeping the gym sanitized and clean. I really appreciate that.

For a weight lifting focused gym, this has everything you need. It’s a very friendly, unassuming, and welcoming environment. They seem to be making a lot of changes to really improve the quality and experience as well. I’m a fan.

I love this gym. The laid back atmosphere is where it’s at. No one looks at you funny, no one judges you. The trainers are knowledgeable and friendly, very encouraging and professional. I worked with Mike and he’s awesome. I just work out on my own now and go in the mornings and sometimes afternoons/​evenings. It’s never that busy and if it is busy, it’s never crowded! I love that about this place. The people that go there are chill and everyone just smiles and carries on with their workout. No ego, no stares, just working out and friendly faces! Favorite gym ever.

I have been going here on and off for about 6 months. This was exactly what I was looking for when I joined as I walked in, walked around and signed up that day. Some machines, some free weights, cardio upstairs and lots of room to move in between everything. Everyone is friendly, the crowd is usually small even at peak times and the folks that go all seem very «local» feeling, not corporate or there to impress. I have lots of injuries, I tend to stick to the cardio upstairs, but when I am downstairs, I couldn’t ask for a better place to go to get a workout.

This gym has been and continues to be a great place for a traditional workout.
In addition, they have worked hard to integrate classes and have a generous schedule of many different offerings. The new owners have really revitalized the gym and I’m happy to say that there are definitely higher enrollment numbers than before!
I hope they continue to improve and have a great future.

I have been coming here for a year… not a regular yet. I rehabbed some injuries and paid for a training package. It was pretty a awesome experience. I also loved that if you dont «look» like a professional gym type you are not given the stare down. You can come in your sweat pants and tshirt and be just fine.
The people clean up after themselves and they often say hi or just smile. Not a lot of pressure which is great. I do a lot of different types of work outs due to my injuries, so I dont usually work specific things on specific days. I work a little of everything each time with a focus on not over doing it. No one corrects me or anything.
Another thing that is super is I paid for the full year and got a great discount. Seems good to me!
Very relaxed friendly atmosphere with no pressure. Very inviting!

I have been a member here for close to 15 years. The gym has been through changes (management and now ownership) over that time but it retains the simple friendly atmosphere it has always had. They offer classes (spin and circut are my favorites) private training (ask for Mellissa) and child care. This is not a fancy gym and to be honest some of the machines need an upgrade, but if you want a comfortable atmoshpere to work hard and get in shape this is the place.

Let me preface this by saying that I’m not a typical gym user, this is the first gym I’ve ever belonged to… so my experience is limited. BUT, from what I’ve seen at other trial gym memberships, Scotts Valley Gym is definitely the most comfortable, non «gym» atmosphere I can remember.
Their prices are very reasonable, about $ 50 per month, but reduced if you pay for a 3 month or annual membership. The staff are extremely helpful and very friendly! This was a really important quality for me, since I was a little apprehensive about taking the plunge with a gym membership.
I’ve now been a consistent gym user for almost a year, and I feel good about my workout every time I leave Scotts Valley Gym. It’s not a huge gym, but it seems to be just right. I never have any issues getting on the treadmill, and the other folks are accommodating about the TV channel (there are two communal TVs in the upstairs area).
All in all, if you’re looking for a new gym and don’t want to feel like you’re being ogled or judged, this is the gym for you. Scotts Valley Gym is exactly what I was looking for :)

I’m from Las Vegas visiting after doing Tough Mudder North Cal. Eric and his mom who were there when I visited manning the facility. This gym is no cookie cutter big box gym. I myself am a fitness professional and am impressed with the professional and friendly way it’s run and the great equipment and weights this gym was stocked with. If I wasn’t just visiting I would sign up here in a heartbeat! Thanks for the home away from home treatment :)

Being a singing coach in Santa Cruz requires not only that my vocals are in great shape but that my body is as well. The INSANITY live workout class is the way for me. It gets me sweating, breathing hard and the High Intensity Intervals are great to keep my heart rate in perfect shape. I highly recommend it!

I’m so glad this gym remained open. The improvements made since its previous ownership are nice. This place has a nice neighborhood feel where you can go and get your workout done without any hassle. Members actually chat with each other here! The machines are maintained well enough and the staff is friendly. The cardio machines could be updated, but the ones they have work well. This place isn’t posh, but you can get in shape here — and without the gym rat/​bunny attitudes. It’s a good deal for the money.

I love the Scotts Valley Gym. The people are so nice, friendly, and helpful. I like the community feel and friendliness of the members. The members are hard core physical enthusiasts who have adopted a life-​time of physical fitness. This is no fly-​by-​night gym. I like the new workout room, with new floors and spinning bikes. The equipment is heavy-​duty and does the job. They keep the gym clean too. The best part is Donna’s smiling face and warm welcome each morning!
