With 30 years of building experience in the Monterey Bay area, Hazen Construction has earned a local reputation as the family business with a professional work ethic. Weve been family-​owned and operated since our beginnings in 1978 and since then weve left a legacy of excellence throughout the Central Coast that ranges from commercial construction to residential building and remodeling. Passed down from father to son for three generations, Hazen combines the old-​school work ethics of honesty, diligence and superior craftsmanship with cutting-​edge construction techniques and the latest innovations in green building design. We pride ourselves in completing projects on-​time and on-​budget, being there throughout all phases of the project to meet each clients particular needs. History

Established in 1978.

Steve began working alongside his father at Reese Construction straight out of College. Absorbing his fathers old-​school work ethic and diligence, Steve also brought his own strengths to construction projects. While he learned the old tricks of the trade from his dad, he was also gleaning the latest in construction techniques and green technology. Combining the tried-​and-​true with the innovative and new, the father-​son team decided to join forces. They obtained their contractors licenses together in 1978 and formed Hazen Construction. The company hasnt stopped building since.

When James retired in 1985, Steve took over the company as president. Hazen Construction incorporated in 1996. Within a few years, Steve began to mentor his son Jeff in the trade. Today, Jeff continues to work alongside his father as Hazen Constructions Senior Project Manager.

Jeff has inherited the passion for building from his father and grandfather, and thats why the third-​generation carpenter has decided to carry on the legacy of building excellence that began at Hazen Construction. He started working for his father during high school summer vacations and quickly developed a skill for building. After working for various contractors in Southern California, gaining valuable experience ranging from painting and masonry to electrical work, he decided to return home to his roots in Santa Cruz County to join the family business and pursue his true passion of building.
