Specialties
The Moon & River Café serves a menu 90% vegetarian and vegan-friendly.
Coffee: «dark & delicious» and very seldom reheated.
We also have breakfast, sandwiches, full entrees, salads, desserts, smoothies, and a wide variety of teas.
The Café features entertainment nightly; usually free and usually at 7pm, although daytime entertainment is offered occasionally. «When the music’s over», we «turn out the lights.» (close)
Although free, we do ask that listeners give the performers an appropriate gratuity.
History
Established in 2004.
Richard Genest, the proprietor of the café, is no new-comer to coffeehouses. He operated the famous and former «Mother Earth’s Café» at Quail & Western in Albany, as well as the «Half Moon Café» on Madison after moving to the Capital region from Ithaca, where he founded the ABC Café 35 years ago.
Many local musicians credit Richard in helping them get their start, as he has always supported local music.
Richard operated «Arthurs Market» for a few months in 2006, and acquired the site once again in 2013, renaming it «Arthur’s Market and Historic Coffee House».
