La Moda Lisa

I’ve found some pretty cool stuff here: a lovely set of table lamps, a very odd vase. Just the kinda cool stuff you could only find in a consignment shop. I love to pop in every once in a while and see what’s new. Definitely worth the trip.

I loved this place! They have so many interesting trinkets and furniture. Even my fiancé was a fan and he isn’t one for shopping ever. We spent quite some time combing the store over calling out «Come see this!» to one another. The dresses upstairs are very unique and affordable which made me wish I had a use for old prom gowns. The staff was super sweet and cheerful joking and laughing with us. I controlled the mini shopping troll inside of my brain and only bought a Betsey Johnson wallet that was marked down to two dollars! I can’t wait to go back maybe next time without my frugal fiancé.

I gotta say, I’ve been a customer for awhile. And love looking around. It’s a cool place. However, went to look at the prom dresses. I will take some responsibility, but beware of bad lighting. I always pride myself at my eye for bargains. My daughter fell in love with this red dress. It looked great. I thought it was over priced, but the dress looked great in her. $ 250.00 was a lot for a second hand dress, but she liked it. We get it home, and under real light, we noticed a lot of missing sequence. Wow… A lot were missing. I called the owner to let her know. Surprisingly it’s buyer beware. $ 250.00, I told her maybe it should be listed On the dress, so the shopper could decide if the dress was worth it. I would have never paid that much knowing this. Very disappointed that the owner didn’t offer to take it back. After this I will not buy from them. I find that if you spend that much on a dress it should be complete. Very disappointed with the dress and the owners attitude of oh well…
Oh well can catch up with you. You can get me once, but will never have a second chance. ! Too bad. To potential shoppers for prom dresses, take the dress in a well lighted area! I bet you’ll see a lot more then the poorly lite dressing room.

This shop is amazing… new things, old things, beautiful things! Best of all, the prices are reasonable, and after 30 days on the shelf, most items turn half price. They also offer a deal on Unilocal where you can get $ 20 worth of goods for $ 10, which I just purchased. Buying or selling, do yourself a favor and stop in. This place is awesome :)

I have been in many thrift stores because I love upcycling and I love old things. Usually my taste is very unique so it is a rare occurrence when I buy something in a thrift store. La Moda Lisa is very different. They don’t sell just anything. You will not walk through rows of old cups at La Moda Lisa or aisles of broken furniture. You find antiques, beautiful reproductions, shabby chic furniture and lots of unique, one-​of-​a-​kind items. I walked away with a beautiful glass lamp, a bright red chest, a coca-​cola cookie jar and 1980s reproduction of a GE 1930s radio (beautiful). I highly recommend a visit to this place. The best part is, it’s not overly expensive. I LOVE primitive antiques (old crates, railroad lanterns) and you are not going to pay as much here, as you will looking for these things at a normal antique store. In addition, if you find an item you like, but cannot afford it, come back in another month or so. La Moda Lisa works on a reduction system. If an item sits for a month in the store, the price goes down, and then continues to decrease several months after, or until it is sold. Please take a look at this place, they are great and the employees are wonderful!

This is a consignment-​only shop, all consignment all the time, and the review is just for the buying end, not the selling.
The store is a little hard to find, tucked behind the LaserWash off Route 50, and there’s no sign out front, so be forewarned you’ll have to turn in to the car wash to get to the barn-​like structure out back. The outside of the building is a hoot, they’ve festooned it with nailed– and glued-​on used objects so the building itself is a sort of collage.
The selection for consignment is excellent — it did not have «old crap whiff» like so many used stores have, and it is arranged a bit randomly but with quite a bit of taste over two levels.
The pricing model for consignment is both useful and very straightforward. Basically you get a discount for every week an item sits on the shelf. Every item is tagged with the dates so you know exactly when the price is going to drop, so if you want to play the waiting game, you can play chicken with the fates and see if you can get something cheaper. I love this pricing model because it allows you to get bargains without having to dicker over prices.
One of the employees was very nice and friendly to us as newcomers, explaining how everything worked, and another one was clearly incredibly freaked out by my hyperactive kid rambling all over the place (I forgot to bring the cattle prod today) and while I don’t blame her I have to nevertheless give them a bit of a ding for not being able to disguise their unease. It’s an artform, and you would get extra brownie points if you can learn to practice it. I digress.
Now, I will have to say that because there’s more in the way of vintage clothing than anything else, and this tends to run to the ladies’ sensibilities in terms of stock, I probably will not be coming back that frequently, but they really do have a little bit of everything, and the pricing model fairly assures they have high turnover, so it’s definitely a make-​regular-​stops-​if-​in-​the-​neighborhood kind of joint.
Not exactly La Giovanna material in terms of masterpieces, but better than the sketchy and often unfriendly competitors in the world of consignment.

Love it! Tucked behind a car wash on Rt 50 in Glenville, this place is a must-​visit for anyone in the area who loves antiques.
While the majority of their inventory is clothing and accessories, they also have a nice number of furniture and household pieces. I bought a gorgeous antique rocking chair for a great price here.
Another fun thing: They markdown their prices based on how long something’s been in the store — after 30 days the price drops 15%, so on and so forth. So, if you like something and want to take a chance, wait a bit and see if the price goes down.
The staff is really friendly and willing to help you with your shopping, don’t be afraid to ask questions — they know their stuff!
