Formally Modern Tuxedo

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this branch of Formerly Modern Tuxedo and the catalyst behind my ranking is dealing with Anthony. I had to do most of business of renting a tux for a wedding I stood up in with Anthony over the phone. While his knowledge and expertise in tuxedo styles was apparent and unquestioned, it was his outstanding customer service that motivated me to write only my 2^nd ever Unilocal review. Whatever you’re paying Anthony at Formerly Modern is simply not enough. He went above and beyond to make my rental and return– which was not nearly as simple as I’m describing– as easy as possible. If I was in a position to hire someone at my current job, I’d have Anthony sitting across from me for an interview. His attention to detail and customer service are EASILY the best I’ve experienced in my many dealings not only with tuxedo rentals, but service overall. Give this guy a raise. He’s earned it.

If I could negative stars I would. I’m getting married in 2 days. My fiancé is there with his groomsmen trying on their tuxes. The grooms men’s tuxes are the wrong color and my fiancé’s tux doesn’t fit at all! All they want to do is refund their money and push them out the door. They don’t want to try and fix their mistake at all!!! They are telling them that there I nothing they can do! This is some of the worst customer service that I have ever seen. Do not go there!!!

Absolutely fantastic! Tony (Schaumburg), Alex (Clybourn), and Donny (Clybourn) are great. Typically, I’m a pretty difficult customer and find the level of service I demand to be too high for most places. These guys are great, though. Not only are they patient, they are also very knowledgeable and follow through when they say they will. They were head and shoulders above their competition.
Regarding the quality of the clothing, I can’t comment. I wouldn’t know a good tux from a bad one.

Very happy with the rental here. Regarding these types of businesses it’s not really what happens when everything goes to plan but when something doesn’t. For example a missing stud or cufflinks and they did not charge us. They’re very nice. I would go here again.

My husband needed a suit for our daughters wedding on the east coast. Tony was perfect, we were so happy with his level of service. We needed the suit on a certain date, ended up needing it sooner. Tony made sure it happened! He sounded more excited that the suit came in the day before we needed it. Hats off to Tony, he’s wonderful!

Used them for our wedding on 5÷18÷2013. GREAT experience. The fittings were perfect. They had an excellent selection and some very nice stuff. It was a little pricey but worth it for the service and quality. Would definitely use them again.

I was quite disappointed with Formally Modern Tuxedo. Usually I find the two-​star rating as kind of pointless, because things are usually great, good, okay, or shitty. This place had okay service, but the quality of the rentals was unacceptable.
The guys at the Schaumburg location were nice enough to earn a star. I was a groomsman in a wedding for my brother. When I first tried on the tux, I had trouble with the hanger for the pants, as it was bent. It actually broke when I took the pants off of it.
I was specifically told to lay the shirt and pants on the floor and that they would come and hang it. Normally I would have done this myself, but with the broken hanger, I figured they would fix it. No such luck.
When I got to the hotel and opened the bag with the tux, the pants were not even folded and just flopped over the still broken hanger, with hard creases diagonally across the pants. Thankfully the hotel had an ironing board.
The shirts were not good. But that may have been a preference of the groom. When I was helping the groom get his tie on, we noticed that it had not been folded properly and had wrinkles and creases all over it. This was a tie he had purchased.
The cufflinks for the groom actually broke. Fortunately, he had his own. The best man’s top vest button popped off during pictures.
AND — the buttons on all of the vests were so worn that the black buttons had a white sheen over them. Black buttons should never look white!
Bottom line: The poor quality of their tuxedos and accessories negates their customer service.

Excellent customer service at the Chicago store (seriously, we dealt with about 5 different people, all great), but some of the items were quite ill-​fitting when we picked them up. Nothing that couldn’t be changed on the spot, but still a little weird.
