You know that thing when you save a couple bucks by installing the dishwasher yourself and then 9 months later it won’t even power on? Yeah, me too.
So, the dishwasher has been working well for 9+ months. Then over the weekend, no lights, no power, no nothing. Perfect! I’m a washin’ by hand fool.
We contacted Kitchenaid to find an authorized warranty repair company locally. They offered D&S and Diamond to us through their website. So, we checked Unilocal reviews of the two options and found them to have just a raft of horrible reviews.
Bright and early Monday morning I was on the phone to Kitchenaid customer service to find other options. Dustin offered up a couple options, which I looked up on Unilocal quickly and dismissed. Then he offered up Advanced Maytag. Good reviews, nothing about crappy service people. We scheduled.
The service rep showed up, was professional but personable and went to work. He quickly found the problem and fixed it. Not a warranty fix though. That’s more an indictment of me than Kitchenaid or Advanced.
The experience with Advanced is about what I would hope for. Quick to respond, professional, found and fixed the problem in one visit, reasonably priced.
We will definitely keep them on our list to call should I ever decide to install a major appliance by myself again.

Dryer stopped tumbling! — Maytag Neptune DC (Super cool model with a cabinet dryer above. I don’t know why more people didn’t buy them. It’s fantastic.)
For those of you with large families you know what a tragedy this is. An entire week can be destroyed as the laundry mountain builds. Very discouraging to the person in charge. BUT…
I called Advanced.
I called a few minutes before their scheduled open and a very nice man answered. Got me set up with a next day appointment with an approximate window of 10 – 2. My repairman showed up today somewhere around 9:30. It’s 10 am now, the laundry assembly has begun and I am back in business!
BONUS ~~ When he opened my machine and I observed how much lint had accumulated throughout the works down there (Seriously…it was a lot… and I clean the filter EVERY TIME) I asked if I could vacuum that before he closed up. I ran for the vacuum and he very kindly offered to do it for me. Nice, given that who better than him to know all of the places that lint would lurk? Yea!

Six year old dryer started making a high pitch squeal!
I called manufacturer who referred me to Advanced Maytag Home Appliance Center, plus another repair place and I also called ABT. Advance had the best customer service, most immediate date available and the most deciding factor: best pricing! Day before service Eric called to confirm appt time, date of service he was professional and repaired the dryer with parts that he had on truck, so no return trips! In and out of house within 30 minutes! I will definitely use them for all my appliance repair! FABULOUS!

That doesn’t add up, now does it. And don’t forget the $ 139 initial service charge visit fee.
So, why am I giving Advanced Maytag even two stars? Two reasons: 1) the repairman who visited my home on both occasions was polite and prompt and 2) he didn’t charge for the follow up visit (it was just within 30 days of the first visit) when we experienced yet another bout of tropical conditions in the fresh food section of our refrigerator.
But I have two major problems with this business:
1) Each time I called about our ongoing problem (three time total), the scheduler (or biz owner) could never assure me a visit within 1 – 2 days. This was extremely frustrating as our refrigerator would start cooling again during this time period. So, I’d call for my bum fridge, describe the problem, and add in the information that it starts to cool itself back down during the 3 – 4 day cycle. Since the repairman couldn’t «replicate» the problem and/​or pinpoint the issue with any certainty I was left with zero options.
And let us not forget… when things were tropical in my fridge during those first two days I (inevitably) had to throw out just about everything (twice) and start over. Not a cheap endeavor.
2) On my third call for service regarding the above (this is now happened three times in two months), the man on the phone was incredibly rude to me. He basically told me that until the problem can be diagnosed while there’s a serviceman present (which never happens as they can’t schedule a visit within 1 – 2 days), there’s nothing he can do for me. And he says this with the thickest attitude I’ve laid ears on it months, as if it’s my problem that he can’t get a repairman within an appropriate amount of time to address my refrigerator issue.
You couldn’t fix my problem Maytag, instead you became my problem when you showcased a lack of product understanding (as someone else diagnosed the issue within 30 minutes) and capped it off with a nasty attitude. Poor service all around. No thanks.

Washer died last night in the rinse cycle. Was familiar with Advanced when my parents needed a new washer/​dryer several years ago. Don was great to work with. Fabulous explanations and understood what I wanted from my laundry appliances. No hard upsell, and good explanation regarding the extended warranties as these appliances are now all computerized. Best of all — I bought on Saturday at noon and will get delivery and installation on Monday. Great service — and I’ll be back when the dishwasher need to be replaced. Thanks Advanced!
