Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

While waiting for my food, my mom wanted to run upstairs to jo-ann’s to look around. She’s been looking for this small button that she hasn’t been able to find anywhere, she also likes looking at the new sewing machines and the fabric. They had these adorable pink pumpkins. i only wished i had my phone on me to take a pic.

Good selection but their customer service is terrible. I’m standing here now wait to be helped at the cutting table. They are super slow. There are 2 people being helped in front of me. One customer has 5 different fabrics the other 1 fabric option. Just as the associate finishes with the customer with 5 fabrics the manager comes and pulls that associate away without allowing him to help me. The other associate was still trying to finish cutting 1 fabric. I was finally helped.

They had a good selection but I gave them a 3 because the cashier, Mary was incredibly rude. Bad customer service is always a downfall.

I was really excited when I found this place. Before coming here I only went to Michaels. I like they carry yarn that is not available at Michaels, but the selection is not extravagant. Most prices are not matched as online. If you ask they will match the price for you. But now I am told I have to print out the item with sale price from online in order to receive a price match.
I decided to take a knitting class here. The instructors I had were not pleasant and inviting. I learned absolutely nothing. You can learn more from online, books, and videos.
What keeps me coming back is the Sewing Gallery, which is located within this store. The manager, Ivy, is really great. I am so happy I purchased my sewing machine from here. Ivy is very patience and spends as much time needed with you until your comfortable with your machine.

As far as crafting, sewing, fabrics, and the like — this store is ideal.
I’ve never visited a Jo-​Ann store until this year, when my fiancé dragged me here a few times this year to get materials for her jewelry making and clothing designs. Of course, this type of hobby doesn’t really interest me, but it didn’t take away from my appreciation of what this store has.
Firstly, the overall layout of the store is clean, spread out, and overall neat. Each and every time we’ve come here, we’ve always been able to find what we were looking for. Even I was able to locate things alone without any help from my fiancé or employee of the store. The place always looks empty of customers, so how they stay afloat in a store this size amazes me — unless I’m just lucky enough to pick the best times to come in, when there are very few customers.
We’ve come here with our child before and they have a decent amount of items for kids that has no relation to crafting or anything. The customer service has always been fine for the times I’ve dealt with employees whether on the floor or at the register. I have no complaints about the service or the store at all.
The register is pretty slow at times and there have been times when we’re waiting and waiting for the lone cashier to take out the line and wait entirely too long to call for assistance. It’s usually one cashier, but I’ve seen up to two at a time on the registers and there’s always a little line. Twice before it was the customers who’ve held up the lines with either their fishing for exact change in that duffel bag-​like purse they have or their 90 questions that they felt they needed to wait until checkout to ask. The cashiers do need to speed it up regardless though, because some of them can be slow. It seems like the less ringers for more customers situation has affected every retail outlet everywhere — not ever a problem when I slaved in retail.
We’ve walked around the entire store, but usually end up in a few areas. I can’t say I’m an expert in such things as mentioned in the other reviews, but in my fiancé’s experiences — they had exactly what she was looking for each time we’ve been here, which is more than a handful. I would recommend this place anytime to anyone.
The only real problem with this experience is the parking lot, which is certainly not Jo-Ann’s fault. It’s part of an outdoor mall, so at times this lot is a mess with people, people who can’t navigate their vehicles, and people who can’t park to save their lives. I’ve always been able to find parking, but if you’re one of those people who need to be as close as possible to the stores… good luck. The lot is a mess, so if you come here use caution. Again, not the store’s fault at all.
Bottom line, I recommend this place to anyone with a crafting, painting, sewing, jewelry making hobby, interest, or what have you. I’ve never had a complaint or issue in this store and my overall experience has been a positive.

The folks here are actually helpful! They helped me to find the obscure things I was looking for, with care and patience.
And, best of all, they offer lots of affordable classes. I took Sewing 101– and both instructors were so attentive, and the small class size was great. The materials were included, and I ended up taking home the projects I sewed.
I’d definitely sign up for another class.

I’ve been coming to this Jo-​Ann ever since I heard there was a closer one to my school (which was like 3 years ago). And it’s been one year since I graduated, and I still prefer this one than the one that is closest to me (the one in long island).
In every visit, I have never had a problem with cutting fabric, paying for my supplies or asking for help. I had a problem once, when I said there was sign that was discounted and it didn’t show up on the register when I went to go pay. The guy at the register, actually checked the sign and said oh it was for xxx fabric (some specific fabric) only. I told him, I wasn’t the one who picked out the fabric, it was the lady at the cutting counter and I asked her if this was part of the discount, and she said yes. In short, he gave the discount. :) It was super nice of him.
There are times when the ladies at the cutting counter chit chat while cutting or may not have full attention to their customers, but it was never a problem for me. And they’re always so nice and down to earth.
There are great selections of fabric for a decent price. If you’re on a budget, Jo-​Ann has lots of coupons and I don’t think there is a coupon limit. (Cause they do coupon commotion in the summer/​fall?) So whatever project you have, a coupon can make it cheaper. :D
There are some things I can’t exactly find at Jo-​Ann, but I always find something close to what I’m looking for.

I wanted to give this store a good review because they have a good selection, and there are a few employees who are decent.
Most of the people who work here are terrible, including managers. Forget product knowledge, that is non-​existent. They are also incredibly slow and rude. Lines are regularly 10 – 15 parties long, while a single employee rings up in slow motion.
Many of the people who work here, including managers, speak as if they were just released from prison. That is not what you want to encounter while shopping for glitter and découpage. One day I was looking for a price on an item. The first employee who was helping me said «I’m getting the fuck out of here» and left the store. Another employee shouted at some shoppers «why would you make a costume when you could just buy one at party city? It’s stupid. I don’t know how to sew and I don’t want to.» I ended up not buying the item I needed for my project because not even the manager could find the price. I contacted corporate customer service, and received a generic «thanks for the feedback» email. It seems like they don’t really care.
It’s a shame that this store is managed so poorly, because there are a couple decent (not good, decent) employees and a great selection. There must be so many people in Westchester who love arts, crafting and sewing. Why don’t they hire some of those people? I will continue to buy things here, but only when I’m desperate. I truly hope they shape up their business so I can go back to crafting here.

I don’t see how this place has a low rating. The place is huge. They have lots of sales… and practically everything that you possibly needed for any craft project. It’s rather organized.
They sell everything from: fabrics, buttons, zippers, glue, patches, candles, stickers, scrapbooking supplies, sewing supplies, crotchet needles, frames, paint, art supplies, baking supplies, fake flowers, duct tape, beads, jewelry, foam, brushes, felt, etc.
I came here specifically for felt fabric and self-​adhesive fabric tape to decorate some shirts for a Color Run that I did with some friends. I cut the felt fabric into heart shapes and taped them to the shirts with self-​adhesive tape, no ironing required. You can see my project here:
The staff are scattered everywhere and some actually came up and offered their assistance without me having to scout for them. Then there were others who were around who didn’t ask if I needed any help. I on the other didn’t really care.

Horrible service! For anyone like me who doesn’t do a lot of sewing, but would love to learn, this place will make you think twice. I asked if there was 60″ wide fabric and where it would be. The woman said she had never heard of such a width and how did I hear of it! Crazy. I findly found something, although it wasn’t a common size, it certainly does exist. While standing at the cutting table, I waited for two workers to finish chatting while another customer walked up next to me. The one worker asked if she needed help! I couldnt believe it! She looked at me after I must have made a sound of disgust and said the other worker would help me. She did… After straightening out the pile of fabric, which wasn’t a priority! Did I have, «Inexperienced Sewer» written across my forehead?! If so, you’d think I’d have gotten more positive, rather than negative, attention. I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Great help. Every single time I go in there everyone is extremely nice and helpful. The employees thoroughly invest in the customer’s need. I’ve been asked what I was making with the materials I was buying with actual interest and a real conversation. I love coming here — they have everything I need and the employees are amazing!

First, if you’re looking for apparel fabric, keep going up the road to Hartsdale Fabric. Unless you’re making a Halloween costume, a quilt, or a sofa cushion, the selection here is extremely disappointing. It should be called fleece town. Honestly, I have never seen so much fleece. Huge bolts of it piled everywhere! But not a nice poly/​lycra or cotton/​lycra type fabric that an adult would want to be seen in. A respectable supply of notions and yarn, but skimpy on needles. OTOH, if you’re into scrapbooking, this is the place for you. Unlike a lot of big box places, it seems more than adequately staffed, which is why it’s such a mystery that check-​out is SO SLOW! I’ve been there when the place is practically empty and the wait is just as long as when it’s crowded. At least twice I’ve walked out without purchasing because I got fed up with the wait. Last time there were only 2 customers ahead of me, three cashiers open, and still I waited nearly 20 minuted! It seems every other purchase requires some big pow-​wow with a manager (who takes his/​her time answering the page), consultation with another salesperson, or some other time-​wasting boondoggle. Get it together! If people get as far as check-​out and you lose them there, what’s the point?! And please… Get some decent fabric! Not all of us want Hello Kitty pj’s!
