Tucked away in the backwoods of NC, this little gem sits along a small river, the Haw. An old mill, converted into a rough version of a multiplex, it has exposed wooden beams and a brick interior. There are plenty of tables and an ample bar. If your there late enough, you’ll hear a band playing in the adjacent«ballroom.» My husband and I ordered the mixed greens salad that was simple, yet elegant. It was lightly dressed with balsamic dressing. Includes were red onions, roasted butternut squash, diced very small, and dried cranberries. For dinner, my husband ordred the steak, mashed potatoes and asked for sauteed spinach. All reported excellent. I got the pork chop with root vegetable hash and chimmichuri sauce. The chop was perfectly seasoned and hash was hardy. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about where the local ingredients came from. I’d highly recommend this place when in the ares or become a regular if you lived nearby. Luckily, we live close enough to visit often.

The food and atmosphere here are very very good — some of the best in the area, and you get the added bonus of being out in the country by the haw river. My only issues are as follows: 1) The service could be better. The last time I ate there I did a lot of waiting around. The place isn’t all that big, so it isn’t too much to expect good service from a handful of waiters. 2) The menu has changed over tim to be more pub food and less real entrees like they used to serve. Everything is still delicious, but the food used to be so much more creative and I miss that. 3) The last time I was at The Eddy, I was putting in my order around 6:15pm — pretty early in the evening. I ordered a dish and was told that the kitchen was out of that particular item. It really irks me when restaurants run out of food(as if they existed to do something besides serve food), but I was especially bothered by the fact that they had run out of this item before the dinner rush had even hit. Who is in charge of the supply chain there? If I’m going to drive from the other side of Mebane to have a meal, I don’t want to be told no – especially at 6:15. Other than those few things, I don’t think there is much to be unhappy about at the Eddy. The food really is incredible, and the atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant is amazing. The few times I’ve been there when they’ve had live music, it’s been really tasteful stuff and at the perfect volume so as to not drown out conversation. Seriously, the whole vibe is really great. But until some changes are made, go over there ready to wait and be sure to have a backup plan unless they run out of what you actually want to order.

Great ambiance from the lighting to the décor. The person in charge on the evening of 11⁄14 was awesome. Very attentive and kind. The bartender who served was neither of these, and while everyone has a bad day, his lack of care was not a good thing in a customer service job. We got the cheese fries, and while the pimento cheese was quite bland, the fries were not soggy and overall satisfying. We also ordered the eggplant Parmesan which were 4 small skinny squares that were overcooked, incredibly thin, tasteless, and drenched in marinara sauce. We voiced our discontent and asked the bartender if that is how they normally come to which he said«yes, they are pre-made.» He then came back later, took the plate of barely picked at uneaten eggplant without asking if we were done, and then charged us $ 6 for it. Wow. Just wow. Anyways, after talking to the manager, she was willing to make things right for us although we declined her offer. Nonetheless, that was our experience.

Lovely place, great service. Loved the Cheese & Charcuterie board. The kielbasa/polish sausage was amazing(from Left Bank Butchery downstairs which is well worth a visit) — lovely smoky flavor, and the Chevre delicious. For main I had the goulash, which to me lacked body. The sausage in here was not as good as the one on the charcuterie board.

Nifty spot along the riverbank in Saxapahaw. It’s only about a twenty-minute drive from Chapel Hill, so it makes a nice afternoon trip in good weather. It was rainy when I was here over the weekend, but that just made the pub feel cozier. It’s a renovated warehouse of some kind with a long bar and table seating in the center of the room and along one row of windows. I decided to try the cheese and charcuterie selection, so I had the Calvander cheese and their smoked Gouda. The Gouda in particular was terrific. Also had the chicken liver pâté, which was very tasty. It was all served with a nice sliced baguette, some greens with a sweet dressing, some pickled red onion, and slices of a very tart green apple. All in all, it was a very satisfying meat and cheese board. I wasn’t as crazy about the ale I tried and I wish in general the beer selection was a little more adventurous. Also, the bar isn’t positioned to take advantage of the river views – only a few tables along the window would have easy water views. The layout may have been forced on them by the construction of the original building, but a bar seat with river views would make the place even better. These picked nits aside, there’s a good vibe here, enough parking, and a surprisingly sophisticated menu to graze. I plan to come back.

I went here expecting a standard type of pub, but was surprised by a really cool atmosphere and farm fresh food. Everything I tried tasted fresh. The waitress told us the meats are local and the chef grew the vegetables. The menu was creative with some standard items. I enjoyed the industrial style atmosphere. We will definitely be back… I’ve already visited twice now and only just discovered it! Also, be sure to stop by the brewery below it before or after you eat.

The meatloaf is the best! Great atmosphere with foods from local farms in the area. Good wine selections. Amazing brunch on weekends. Love the Eddy all around.

We arrived early on a Saturday around 4:50pm. We were seated promptly and the waitress took our drink order. After our drinks were received and our apps and entrée orders were taken, that was pretty much the last we saw of the waitress. We received our food and apps all at the same time approx. 1 hour later. My beer was empty for well over 30 minutes. The food was ok but not great. My burger was missing the mustard on the side and the pickle. They do not pay attention to detail here at all. The fries were just OK, it seems we got half inch pieces at the end of a batch. Pad Thai was terrible, salty and very bizarre soy sauce flavor, probably partially my fault ordering Pad Thai at a pub. It was strange, the waitress told us they were slammed yet it did not look busy and 3 other tables that arrived after use got food before we did. On top of that usually the waitress comes back and asks how everything is, we only saw here towards the end when it was time to pay. We traveled a long way to experience Eddy’s but we sure wont be back ever. You can get a better meal and service at Apple Bees. Furthermore, we told our waitress this exact same thing and the manager didn’t come talk to us. All the waitress said was sorry. Yea sure…, I am sorry for stepping a foot in this place. Better options for beer and food can be found else where.

All of our food was amazing: soft pretzel(best of hubby’s life), pork chop, pasta, burger, tres leches cake. Unique ginger cider. We were impressed by the commitment to local and organic food. Super kids friendly, with high chairs, changing table, and toys and books available. Very nice wait staff. This is as good as it gets for us.

Sub-par especially with the other restaurants and bars surrounding it. One bar tender tends to be annoyed that you are sitting at the bar and refuses to be pleasant or ask you if you would like something else to drink. Wait staff seem nice but would much rather turn tables quickly. Felt rushed and not a place you can go to hang out. Decent deck but not a lot of shade for the hotter days. Cocktails are way over priced and not well made. Beer selection is minimal at best.

Great local food and entertainment in a terrific venue. Even when busy the wait staff does really well. Nice menu options with a great wine list. Outside dining is very popular. I love the atmosphere inside but need to try outdoor seating. Anna our server was outstanding. Our group of four had lots of questions, she was knowledgable and so friendly. In making our second wine selection she even offered a taste test. Nice job Anna!

Beautiful view of a Bridge Over the River Haw. Good selection of beers and friendly menu to sate your hunger. I unadventurously ordered a hamburger and was pleased. The waitress and kitchen were accommodating whenI asked if they’d be able to prepare their special North Carolina thrasher shark which was on the menu as a filet instead as fish and chips. They obliged my request and that’s what my wife enjoyed. Worth the trip from Durham to Saxapahaw.

Great pub with a great view. We sat at the bar because it was about a 45 min wait since there was a big event in the ballroom. Since my boyfriend and I both bartend, we realized we actually prefer bar seating anyways. You can ask for things without waiting for you server to come to your table, and you meet more people. The bartender was a pro. Quick, courteous, knowledgable, but not all in your face. The wine list, I noticed hasn’t been spoken much of, and I think is one of their strongest suits. Good wines in the $ 30 – 40 range is always a plus in my book. Being that they have a brewery in this building(I’m pretty sure about that) I was surprised that there were not more of their own brews. We tried their Eddy Pale Ale. It was very good. But then, as we noticed the wine menu, we promptly switched over because of the value and selection. The menu is southern pub style, not many healthy options. Which is ok, but I’ve been trying to take it easy on the calories, so we shared soup, salad and charcuterie. Which turned out to be plenty for two pretty hungry humans. The French Onion Soup was spectacular, and unique being that it is made with a rabbit based broth instead of beef. I was also pleased that it wasn’t overloaded with cheese. There was a nice crunchy slice of Cheesy toast instead. I also enjoyed the light and thin viscosity of the soup. The beet salad was the best I’ve ever had. Adding mint to the typical beet/goat cheese mix was fabulous. The beets were fresh an delicious. For the charcuterie, I was more fond of the cheese than the meat. I like drier and saltier meats on my plate, but they were out of my top 2 options. My partner though, was very satisfied with this plate, so it’s not bad quality just not my Preference. The local cheese was great! The burgers looked and smelled really good though, so next time, we will check those out!

Fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese stack was delicious. Mushroom bolognese was very good. Sweet potato pie was lovely. Coffee was excellent. Service was perfect. Wines were not bad I expected better for the price. It is strange to me that Farmhouse Ale isn’t served there. They are right downstairs and delicious.

My husband and I have been eating at The Eddy since we moved to the River Mill in Saxapahaw a year and a half ago. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the Eddy, because it is a two minute walk from my apartment, it has a great atmosphere, and the prices are extremely reasonable for what you get. However, I feel the need to write a review and let people know what the deal is with this restaurant. So here goes. First of all, the best time to go to The Eddy is Tuesday nights, when all of their wines by the bottle are half off. My husband and I love to go and order a bottle of wine, enjoy the atmosphere, and have a nice relaxing meal. Brunch on Saturdays from 10 – 2 is also a great time to go. I love their bacon, their grilled sourdough bread with honey butter, and their grits with hoop cheese. They also have awesome specials during brunch(i.e. Huevos Rancheros, Chicken and Waffles). The worst time to go is anytime there is a show at the Haw River Ballroom or any Saturday night during summer months. Avoid it all costs during either event. Second, the Eddy is very hit or miss – I’ve tasted one of the best baked macaroni and cheese dishes I’ve ever had there; I’ve also had one of the worst risottos of my life there. It all depends on who is in the kitchen and how much training they’ve had. Third, they don’t take reservations and often times run out of tables as well as items on the menu. Fourth, their versions of certain dishes can be very different from the original. Just for example, once for brunch I ordered a croque madame. It came open-faced on plain unbattered/unfried sourdough, was served with a stone ground mustard sauce and contained an insane amount of ham. It was very good, but it was not at all what you would expect when ordering a croque madame. With all of this being said, I still love the Eddy. I go for brunch on Saturday mornings or before 6:30 or after 8 in the evenings. If there is nothing on the menu that sparks my interest(or if there is, but they ran out) I order pimiento cheese fries and a glass of wine. You can never go wrong with that.

Really great Gastropub off the beaten path. This is a great«Go out for the afternoon to get away from everything» place. While you’re in Saxapahaw, make sure you visit the market, walk around the trail behind the lofts and just explore a bit. We were fortunate enough to have come on a Saturday and got to experience a free music concert as well! This is the second time I was here and it is a fun time. Service is great, beer selection is awesome(Only NC beers here!). And food is very good. You can tell they only use local ingredients because things always taste fresh. I had the burger and it tasted great. Fries were good. My wife had the steamed mussels and I was really impressed that she got as many mussels as she did for the price. Everything was great and we’ll be sure to come back and visit again!
