Savannah Marriott Riverfront

Hello … 1998 called … and it would like its hotel back. If you think Savannah is historic — wait until you walk into the Savannah Marriott Riverfront. While the staff gets an A for effort — the entire hotel is in desperate need of an overhaul. Everything from the carpet to the décor seems dated. Once you get passed the old schoolness, it’s not a bad hotel. Mind you — it’s not a great hotel as the place seems remiss when it comes to attention to detail. (Overhead lights were out in our room, outlets weren’t working, key cards worked intermittently.) I think the thing that griped me the most was that the Concierge area was closed on the weekends. Fortunately, parking and wireless is free for Platinum members. Nevertheless — the staff is some of the most affable, congenial you’ll find at any Marriott. Everyone made me feel like they had my back from the minute I walked in the door. It made a so-​so experience less … uh, so.

We ended up staying here for the evening since we were planning to do some evening activities in Downtown Savannah. We booked it with the breakfast buffet included the following morning.
Getting here was a bit tricky at first since there is a lot of construction going on with the roads there at the moment. Parking is self parking at an additional cost of $ 21 per night. The location is at the end of River Street. Once we got to the front of the hotel, a bellman was there to take care of our bags and got them to our room. We had booked a standard room, but we ended up getting a room where we were able to see the Savannah River and the boat traffic. The view was actually nice and was able to see a great sunset as well.
The room (715) was clean and what one would expect in terms of cleanliness. However, the hotel is old and some updating is needed. The bar locking the door to the balcony is broken and that door sticks, when trying to open or close it. The beds were very comfortable and had a great night’s sleep.
The following morning, we had breakfast at the on-​site dining location called Blue. The breakfast was very good and the package included the full buffet.
Once it was time to leave, we contacted bell services and Zack was up within a few minutes. I took care of the checkout while he took care of getting the bags in the car for us. Once that was all settled, we were on our way.
Overall, this was a nice, but dated hotel. I would stay here again. I gave the three star rating instead of four due to the issues that need to be fixed in the room. Overall, this hotel gets the job done.

Filthy ceiling with dust from AC vent. You have to pay for WiFi… really. No breakfast included. One bar of soap. Obviously management is more focused on the bottom line than a delightful stay for the guests. Friendly staff nice balcony. Room 517 ⁹⁄₆
UPDATE 2÷14÷2016. Got a gift certificate from the last time. Tried again. Roach ran into with us when we opened the door. Electric plug did not work. They do not pay attention to the details here

This place is great the staff was wonderful. The room was awesome and very clean. I had room service and the food was delicious I had the steak. Room service price was high but this is riverside. I will defiantly come back the hotel was very safe for a single women alone. I will say it’s a little out of date. And the elevators probably need to be replaced but every thing else was great. And the house keeping need to clean the Windows and dust tables in hall and pics on walls. But I really enjoyed my stay.

Great place. So friendly and accommodating; clean and comfortable. The pool was nice and warm and, within a spectacularly huge glass roofed atrium. The ‘Blue’ restaurant was great too: food and service. But what really set the restaurant apart was the incredible breakfast buffet. Loved the view of the river. We would definitely stay here again. Only reason not five stars: no fridge or microwave in the room.

Stayed for only 2 nights, and even though check in process was easy and staff was friendly, area outside was under construction, décor is a little out dated and walls are extremely thin. (during my second day, after we woke up i could hear everything that was happening in the room adjacent to mine, everything from the clear conversation and the guests toilet time. (yuck!). Because we booked on
, we were given a $ 25 hotel credit, having three rooms — we combined the credits. We decided to use the $ 75 for room service. (Food was expensive and portions was ridiculously small. I do not recommend.) Hotel was over was clean and has a nice view and easy access to the riverfront. Great views from our room.

The view of the river and the location are great. That’s about where the good news ends. The hotel is outdated dirty and we had a real shortage of hot water. Overpriced for what to get. I have stayed at many Marriott’s most of them are excellent this one doesn’t make a list. Proceed at your own risk!

It’s pretty and on the waterfront. That’s where the list of pros end. The rooms with a waterfront view also overlook a big courtyard which has a glase dome roof. The dome basically acts as a big funnel that channels all of the noise from the courtyard up into your room. You will hear everything going on below. My particular room adjoined a sweet, so there was a door that could connect to the suite, which allowed me to hear EVERYTHING going on in the suite. I could have carried on a conversation with neighbors without raising my voice. There’s no mini-​fridge, no thermostat on the AC, and the beds were a bit lumpy.

What a gorgeous hotel with wonderful staff. Whether you pull up or walk in you’re immediately greeted by at least 2 – 3 staff members. The bartender Kirk is very personable and quickly has your order memorized! The hotel offers a bar, indoor pool, restaurant and a beautiful view. The room was comfy and quiet welcoming with a great view. The bathrooms however were a disappointment, the toilet had a ring of mold and the grout in the shower had mold. The paint was also chipping and dusty. The Blue restaurant was delicious but served at room temp which alerted us it was left standing for awhile. We took some food back to our room as a late night snack but the fridge was far from cold and never cooled. It was a lovely hotel just needed a few fix ups

We had great service at check in. The room was clean and not outdated as I recall in other reviews (granted the shower floor squeaked as I moved around in the shower). The balcony overlooking the river was a plus.
The location was fantastic. We took the river walk from the hotel to a nearby restaurant and enjoyed the stroll to and from.
We only stayed one night but want to return to Savannah and stay here again.

Stayed here for a conference. It is an older hotel but was clean and staff nice. All the meals we had were good. It can be a long walk down hall after hall to get to your room. On river street but all the way down at the end, but at least you don’t have to worry about parking. Probably back in the day this was the «it» hotel but now there are a lot of newer ones but would still stay here again. River view rooms are the best.

Great hotel! The price was actually pretty cheap to stay there. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our room faced the interior and had a patio. The glass roof and glass wall along the riverside was amazing as well. The buffet breakfast was great too! Easy access to walk down the river walk and enjoy the scenery.

Staff was friendly and attentive. The soda machines were out of water on our floor, both buttons. Water leaking from ice Machine across the hallway carpet.
Construction next door bit of hassle not their fault. The barges early in the a.m. We’re entertaining. Nice to walk the Riverwalk and all the shops nearby.

Booked online. Dated rooms. Vents need to be cleaned/​filters changed, my allergies while in the room was kicked up in high gear! Everytime we would leave the room, my breathing would be better. Room was clean but just a old scent to it. Balcony had a partial river view.
We were only here overnight, and it was really close to restaurants best part of our stay. Construction outside in front of hotel really no issue getting thru. (NO VALET! Self parking ONLY that will cost you… $ 21 a day!

I had a pretty pleasant experience staying here. Luckily I did not get the joy of the 7am cargo boat wake up call or I would probably be singing another tune.
The staff were friendly and the rooms always clean which is more than you can say for a lot of hotels.
I left my brand new iPad charger there, which is likely long gone by now, but maybe waiting for me on my next visit up to Savannah.

Originally, I planned to stay at another hotel and when that did not pan out, I easily chose this hotel.
Sure there is construction. It’s not necessarily convenient but their location in general is so convenient that it works out anyway.
We never had problems with the elevators, but there was quite a bit of noise if you were sitting outside at night due to dredging in the river. Of course that is not their fault either.
All the perks — we were upgraded at no cost because it was our wedding night and then they also ended up comping us one of our nights to congratulate us. It was such a kind gesture.
The view was very pretty. The room was very clean, comfortable and spacious.
The staff members were so nice. All of them. We passed by employees outside and they always greeted us genuinely and held doors.
The room service was on point. Tasty! We were there during a convention but it didn’t seem overly crowded. All the guests were kind too.
We had a wonderful experience and I would go again and recommend it.

Savannah Marriott
Night 1
The elevators did not work, they had to be called, in order to be used.
Very bad wind & thunder storm, and the lights went out for over 5 hours. No food, and had to take the stairs. They did not have an adequate back up generator to keep the party going. I was so ready to leave and go back home.
Day 2
My hubby called room service 4xs, to order breakfast and he was no one answered, he was always bounced to the front desk. I then called front desk, and gave them the business, and he said he would take my order then and there. I thought about it and decided I did not want a spit sandwich, so I changed my mind about ordering. The wifi is horrible, kept going in and out.
Day 3 & 4
I don’t have the energy to even continue just stay elsewhere, and make sure to check your bill. We were charged for parking., but we did not have a car.

I was extremely reluctant to stay at this hotel, due to the numerous poor reviews. But my brother travels extensively for work, and he was renting our hotel rooms with points from a loyalty program. Due to the ACCG Conference in town, the Savannah Mariott Riverfront was the only hotel that fit our criteria, his loyalty program, and had enough rooms available for my whole family.
I was pleasantly surprised. We needed a few accommodations that were minor but very important, and the Mariott came through on each. (Example: my father needed a mini-​fridge in his room for diabetes medicine.) The front desk staff were also very friendly.
A few things of note:
There is construction going on next door. The road is closed, but you can get in and out of the hotel. There’s a sign indicating that Marriott guests can proceed through.
One of my family members slept on a pull-​out sofa during our stay. He reported that it was very uncomfortable. I can’t say I’ve ever slept on a comfortable sofa bed, but it’s something to keep in mind.
The hotel restaurant is expensive. The food is good, though.
I really have nothing bad to say about my personal experience. Nothing blew my mind, but it was a pleasant stay.

Had a «do not disturb» sign on door and at 9am they continued to bang on the door anyways to try and clean the room.
Construction /​road and sidewalk closed.
Mattress was terrible. (Too soft)
Our view of the river had a chimney in front of it.
Worst Marriott experience ever.

This place while on the riverfront is a bit off the beaten path.
The hotel is with its atrium is definitely dated but the rooms are OK, the bathroom is fairly large in particular as compared to most other Marriotts. My biggest issue was with the bed which was much too soft for my liking.
The lounge offers breakfast and dessert in the evening but the menu never changes, so it becomes boring after a while.
When selecting a room try to get a riverfront view, while its a hike from the elevator its worth it.
