Pep Boys

As someone who’s worked customer service for a number of years, i understand a couple of things. I understand that certain services take time and there can be a wait time. I also understand that sometimes making appointments is necessary for to keep operations running smoothly. I get those things. However, when i make an appointment well ahead of time… For an oil change no less… And be told that i still have to wait an hour to an hour and ½… Theres something fundamentally wrong with that set up. My wait time actually ended up running to almost 2 ½ hours, which is wildly unacceptable for someone who made and kept an appointment. This slides into the realm of unprofessional easily, and thats me being kind. And while i don’t have high expectations for customer service during the wait (this isn’t Disney, after all, and the wait times for anything at Disney are significantly preferable), i spent 2 hours after i returned from the nearby store waiting. I watched the sunset… And noticed that my car had still not been taken. And not a word from any of the employees. I would have accepted a «hi» or «how are you», as i understand that things are going on, but i was literally a ghost. Once my car was finally taken in and serviced (which took a grand total of a franky insulting 10 minutes, compared to my abysmal 2 ½ hour wait) I left the store feeling tired over the whole experience. To be honest, the sole reason that i took it there, assuming my appointment would have actually been kept, was because i was not prepared to risk going over the mileage from my previous change… But im almost wondering if that was a mistake. Im only glad my coupon went through because theres no fathomable way i would have paid $ 40 for tonight’s experience. As i said, i get that things happen… And thats okay, if the person on the other side of the counter at least attempts to keep me posted as im sitting there, wasting my time. I don’t know if this is a normal thing… And partially because of tonight, i dont intend to find out for myself… But this cannot go overlooked. At least for the sake of your customers. Mediocrity cannot be the standard for any business, and waiting 2 ½ hours after a scheduled appointment for a 10 minute service is the textbook definition of mediocre.

The service at this location was beyond great! My husband and I had to make an emergency trip down from New Jersey because my mother is very sick and doesn’t have much time left. On the way down our car started making a whining sound that we thought was the power steering pump.
Refusing to just throw parts at the issue, the mechanic carefully went over the engine and discovered there was actually a bad idler pulley and water pump, which also explained why the car was continually losing coolant at a slow and steady pace. The power steering was just fine and the team there took the time to show us how and why the power steering was still good, and said doing it «just in case» would be a waste.
We ended up spending a lot less than we were expecting to, and Kevin was extremely patient and polite in spite of my better half asking 21 questions. The mechanic ensured through diligent and professional work that we wouldn’t break down for the drive back home. I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to invite my family and friends in Savannah to come here for their service needs. Thanks, Kevin, for giving us peace of mind in a very stressful time.

I went into Pep Boys 3 weeks ago for an oil change and asked them to check my tire pressure. The attendant told me I needed new tires and he was correct, so I ordered 2 new tires. It’s been 3 weeks now and my tires have not come in, my low tire pressure light is still on, and now my oil change light is on and it’s only been 3 weeks. However, at least the people working up front smile as they take your money!

My experience with these folks wasn’t well. Made a appointment at 8am to meet one of there mechanics to only find out that he was off that day, so I needed to see the other mechanic that didn’t start until 9am, they recommend work that’s not needed, total waste of time. Charged my money for something I already knew. Never shop with these folks!!! Dumb and Dumber, but they got my money. Make sure your mechanic is ASAP certified not Western Auto Certified! !!

Thanks to Oscar Makepeace, I was able to avoid a pricey repair on my car. He helped me find a product and even came to the parking lot to add it to the crankcase for me. He saved me time and money. I highly recommend him!

It’s too late for me, but save your time AND your money and take your business elsewhere. A brief overview of my experience follows:
I took my car in for new tires after making an appointment over the phone. Turns out, the man I spoke with on the phone didn’t actually schedule the appointment or enter any of my information. That turned the 20 minute wait into a 40 minute wait. I picked up my car and 3 days later, my tire pressure warning light came on and one of my tires was low. This set into motion a total of 4 visits and countless hours spent at Pep Boys. After the 4^th visit, I took my car to the dealership where I was notified that a missing piece near the valve stem was causing the constant slow leak. Thankfully, they were able to fix the problem on the first try. I will NEVER bring my car back to Pep Boys and would encourage others to stay away.

Griffin was super friendly when I called about needing a battery replacement for my Toyota. I showed up an hour before they closed, but it didn’t seem to matter. They did a wonderful job of getting replacing my battery & oil change. I would come back again.

Super nice staff. It was raining and the cashier came out to put on my wiper blades for me. Thank you!

Laurel L. I will not be emailing you in regards to this visit because I will not be coming back to pep boys and I have taken enough from this company. I do not want your condolences and I don’t want you to give me anything for me to use on my next (nonexistent) return. I simply want to never come back and make sure others are aware of how awful this location is

So after they discover that it was in fact the thermometer that now needed fixing I decide to just leave because I refused to give any more of my money to Pep Boys. After my Unilocal rant I get a call from a representative telling me to come back in and they’ll fix it for free. Against my better judgement I came back — and here’s the kicker — after over three hours of waiting I get to drive off the lot and about one mile down the road my temperature gauge soars to the over heat side and my car starts beeping frantically to tell me to stop the car! I go back, lost off all emotion, and they said that because my gas light was on they couldn’t drive the car for the full 12 mile course in order to ensure everything was fine. But they let me leave?
Seriously, the only person I felt bad for was the manager Reggie because he was the middle man that was receiving the blunt end of my wrath and he was the one who called me to offer the free work, I know it was the mechanics who are lazy and incompetent.

Do not come here. Long wait times to be helped and they rip you off. I came here for an oil change a few months ago. I had also wanted to get my headlights replaced since I could not manage to pull the headlight out myself since the socket was rusted and messed up. They told me the total cost with oil change and the light would be roughly seventy bucks. Fine. When I paid at the end, they charged a labor charge of 80 dollars. What a rip off! Take my word, drive down the road to midas.

Slow service and sometimes friendly staff. We used to bring our cars here for oil changes and what not until the one day we called to schedule an appointment and they had no idea what a Scion was… I mean seriously now. The service writer had no idea what it was and neither did the mechanic he asked. Its a Scion, they have been around for a little while now.

I would rather smash my own fingers, one at a time, with a ball-​peen hammer than take my car to this Pep Boys again.
When my vehicle began starting slowly, idling roughly and the «Check Engine» light began glowing a few months back, I chose to take my car to this Pep Boys because I could, in theory, drop my car off on Friday night and get the work taken care of on Saturday with no appointment necessary. Well, it’s now six weeks or so since that first visit. In that time, I’ve had to drop my car off two additional times because the problem was only temporarily fixed. Had I not been treated so poorly during the first three visits, there would soon be a fourth, because the
problem still isn’t fixed.
But I’d rather make an appointment elsewhere and pay more than deal with this Pep Boys again. Perhaps elsewhere, the mechanic won’t throw a temper tantrum and refuse to work on my car (as occurred during my third visit). Perhaps elsewhere, the store manager won’t refuse to refund any of the $ 470 I’ve spent to fix a problem that, as of today, still isn’t fixed. Perhaps elsewhere, they’ll either fix the problem or admit their inability to do so.
To recap: Other Pep Boys may very well be fine automotive establishments. This one is not. It’s managed by a moron and at least one of the mechanics is missing chromosomes. Go somewhere else. Really. Anywhere else.
In addition, I never received any response to my efforts to contact Pep Boys customer service via their website. Just an awful experience across the board.
