DH and I popped in for lunch one day. The place was pretty empty(clue one). It took FOREVER for someone to come greet our table(clue two) and a few years later we finally got our drinks(clue three). Sat and watched while a group of 10 stood and stared at the outside menu trying to make a decision. Food came out lukewarm, but was piled high on the plate. My red beans and rice looked better than it tasted and DH’s gumbo was not good at all. Can’t say I’m surprised that they closed, but it’s always sad to see a local business shut down.

In April, two of my colleagues and I sauntered into to this local place in Savannah because of their sign(and our craving) for She-crab soup. This place DE-LIV-ERED! It was early for dinner and late for lunch, so there was no crowd. We were seated right away. Our waitress was sweet, our bartender made nice strong drinks, and we sat near the bar. The walls were a brick finish, and the décor was a la Louisiana. Supposedly, the owners were from New Orleans. We all ordered a nice big bowl of Louis’ She-Crab Soup for $ 6.99. It was think, satisfying, and tasty. My friend had the craw-fish etoufee for $ 14.95, and given that he’s from N’awlins, he thought it was good a pretty authentic. My other friend had the apple pecan spinach salad(8.95) and crab cake dinner(17.95). We all got to taste and both were yummy. Then, the three of us split the New Orleans Style Bread Pudding for 4.95. That was WONDERFUL! Our service was a bit slow, but it was that way every where in Savannah. I think it might be a southern thing, and given that I’m from Los Angeles, I might have unreasonable expectations. Most days they are open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner(7am to 10pm). The price per person is reasonable: B $ 5-$ 10, Lunch $ 5-$ 10, Dinner $ 10+ per person. I’d definitely make a return trip on my next visit. And I can tell you that I’d order the She-Crab soup and Bread pudding.
