Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace

I was extra excited to go, since the last time we were there it was closed for 2 weeks during the holidays. I was tremendously disappointed.
The good points: there were frequent tours, the house had lots of historical and original pieces, and we got to see the Cartier friendship pin, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and some if Juliette’s art. The PowerPoint slide show in the waiting room is informative.
The bad points: our tour guide, Taylor gave fast, random, and incorrect info. For example, she called it the Pres Medal of Honor instead of Freedom. She gave tons of info about J’s parents, and random anecdotes about how the brothers had to learn to play the harp, but LITTLE info about J herself.
Recommendations from a teacher and frequent international museum visitor and docent of the Smithsonian MONH:
Have more about J’s childhood, life, interests, accomplishments, and legacy.
I would have loved to see Girl Scout regalia from past to present.
I learned that they were called Girl Guides until they proved girls could camp. More about that, why they sell cookies, GS cookie pop culture, etc. famous Girl Scouts, etc.

I was really disappointed with this tour. It was crowded and short and I didn’t learn anything. Thus, not worth the price. I believe I was on the last tour of the day, so maybe it’s better if you go earlier. Maybe I was just tired or didn’t have a good guide.

I was hanging out in Savannah and had some time to kill, so I pulled up my trusty Unilocal app to see what was around me. This museum popped up on my Unilocal-​dar and having been a former Girl Scout, I decided to give it a whirl.
It’s a gorgeous house and the furniture is very well kept. This one meant a little more to me than other estates I’ve been in because of my ties with the Girl Scouts. Definitely a treat for any former or current troops, however, this is not somewhere I would drag my husband. it’s not for everybody and can seem a little cheesy.

Since I have no ties to the Girl Scouts, I didn’t originally plan to visit the Juliette Gordon Low house before my trip. However, a ghost tour had other plans. The house was the first stop.
It was dark outside. It was a huge, historic home with period furniture. Needless to say, you could expect to feel slightly uneasy walking through the dimly lit rooms.
Our tour guides were awesome and very much in character. On several occasions, I had to choke back laughter at some of their «ghost» stories. But the historic stories were interesting and nice! I’m sure that’s what they usually talk about during day tours.
Check this place out if you’re in Savannah and have time! It’s a neat home.

I enjoyed the tour. It was a small group (about 10 adults). The house is very beautiful, and it is very clear Juliette Gordon Low was a very accompilsed women. A few of her orgional artworks are on dispaly throughout the house. The only downside is you are not allowed to take pictures.

I am always surprised when I don’t expect a lot and get something Special.
This house is amazing. It has three floors but you only tour two of them. If you can’t take walking up the steps the tour guide will let you get on the elevator. I was especially impressed with the North and South Parlor. The modeling around the doors I believe the Guide said it came from Egypt; beautiful.
The furniture is original. You can’t sit on it. However, two little girls were Girl Scouts. She let them sit with there Mom to take a picture. That was so wonderful of her. It reminded me of being a Girl Scout and spending time with my own Mom.
If you were or are a Girl Scout you must see this place. I am sure you will come away with wonderful pictures and magic moments to cherish.

A must do. So beautifully restored. Very interesting guided visit. Amazing history. Do not miss it!

A must-​see for every current and former Girl Scout in the Savannah area. My Brownie Scout daughter thought it was «neat» and the tour was worth every penny.

Having been a Girl Scout in my younger years, I was excited to see Juliette Gordon Low’s birthplace. It certainly did not disappoiint.
Set right in the heart of the Savannah historic district is the Juliette Gordon Low birthplace. For $ 10 you can tour the property. It is a very informative tour and you get to learn a lot of interesting facts about the home and the family. The property and decorations are beautiful and very detailed. I felt as though I had stepped back in time on this tour. Definitely a good spot to get some Savannah history!

I have visited the house twice with Girl Scout Troops and today with my family. Our tour guide today was Nancy and she left a lot to be desired. She started to tell things such as the rice story but stopped and said I will explain that in a little but never finished the story. Our whole tour was like that with stories or facts which she never finished. If anyone in the group, which was way more than just my family, asked any questions she seemed very annoyed and irritated. One man asked about the chandeliers in the parlors and she seemed so disgusted to answer his question. My family was not impressed with our tour at all today. My teenage daughter commented how rude she was and that she needed to learn some southern hospitality. The house it self was very pretty but we did not enjoy our house tour. Very disappointing!

Being a former Girl Scout, I enjoyed learning about the history of Juliette and her family. Our tour guide was entertaining, very friendly and willing to answer any questions. The house is in excellent shape and has been well-​maintained on both the inside and outside. The garden outside is lovely and perfect for pictures. There is also a porch for pictures on the side of the house. (They do not allow photography inside.) A gift shop selling various Girl Scout items is at the end of the tour.

Such an interesting lady and amazingly talented. I came on this tour with a friend that is a girl scout and really had no interest in going, I’m so glad I did. I have such a different view of the girl scouts now.

I am a big fan of history and this place has it in spades! Enjoyed the tour but disliked how rushed it was. I was not able to look around on my own more than two minutes. Tour guide was slightly rude although good at retelling history. Liked the giftshop but tees were way over priced

$ 10 for the tour… totally worth it! The tour guy was very informative and was able to answer every question we had. I wish I could remember her name. Because she was great. One of the best things to do in savannah.

Do not do this tour in summer months unless a girl scout. Disorganized with extra people. House is hot. If not a girl scout fan consider not doing. Not worth it as guides pretty much concentrate on her, not history and family and house. Girl scouts jump ahead of other tour groups and you are left waiting in rooms already visited. Handling tours is not orderly.

We visited several years ago and my girls still talk about what they learned. We loved our visit. Our guide was energetic and knowledgable. The home was wonderfully maintained. It was a great history lesson for all of us. Parking is a bit of a problem so be prepared.

This was my first visit to Savannah and saw this tour was highly rated, I wasn’t a girl scout but Juliette Gordon Low’s life has always interested me. The tour was not terribly long, and isn’t expensive at all. The rooms were set up as they might have been back when Juliette lived in the house, and many of the pieces of furniture and/​or books/​figurenes/​paintings the Gordon family still owns and lends out to the house museum, or Juliette created, painted, or improved on. The Girl Scouts do a great job maintaining the house and training their guides on the history of Juliette’s life and her families life, however I wouldn’t go to the house for another 4 – 5 months. Currently it is going through a restoration so the exterior is all scaffled up, and a few elements of the tour you couldn’t experience because of it.
It should be noted that you are not allowed to take photos while touring the home, which is unfortunate but it is what it is.

I am not a Girl Scout but I still found this tour fascinating. It was led by energetic young women and it was a fairly quick and informative tour. I was also pleased they let my mother-​in-​law, grandmother-​in-​law, and my 8 month pregnant self take the elevator. :)

This was our 3^rd time to Savannah and our 3^rd time back to this museum and store. Our daughter is a girl scout from Troop 3531 San Gabriel California chapter and this is always on our list of places to visit. This is a pilgrimage for any girl scout.
