Who doesn’t love baseball games where its $ 1 to get in, $ 1 to get a hot dog, and there’s a full service bar that can mix you and Gin and Juice! We went to our first Sand Gnats game recently and nothing has made us feel more like true members of the Savannah community. What a great, relaxing atmosphere that is fun for kids and adults alike. My 1 regret was that the merchandise vendor was running low on supplies, and I really wanted a Sand Gnats t-shirt! The Gnats have been in the news a lot recently for their pending move out of Savannah, and a lot of speculation has gone in to what other team is going to come in to town to take over. Whoever we end up with, Grayson is such a historic, «Savannah true» structure and surrounded by such a lovely park. We thoroughly enjoyed the game, drinks, food, and good times. Tip: If you have a Kroger Plus Card, bring it to the stadium! You’ll be able to get in for just $ 1!

Thirsty Thursdays!!! Gotta watch a sand gnats game on Thursdays to enjoy half off all draft beers. It’s a pretty nice stadium as well with decent concessions(burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, chili cheese dogs, etc). Beer selection is pretty standard with domestics and they have Sweetwater as well. We sat at the Skybar which was pretty swanky and we enjoyed it, although it got pretty crowded. Bathrooms are okay and there’s none near the Skybar.

Living near the Durham Bulls and the Carolina Mudcats, I’m a little spoiled when it comes to minor league baseball. But, Historic Grayson Stadium holds up as a great place to take in a game. If you’re a Savannah local, then it’s a no-brainer to visit regularly(especially Thirsty Thursday’s). If you’re just in town for a few days. spend one of those nights at the ballpark — you will not regret it. I enjoyed sitting on Land Shark Landing, which is a party deck that you can access with your General Admission tickets. Make sure to get a Land Shark beer and watch as they fill it up. Pro tip: don’t touch the bottom of the cup till you are done. Once you are done, poke your finger through and you get a nice magnet keepsake! The food is pretty average here. The star of the show is a «s’mores panini», which you can grab near the 1st base bleachers. It’s a messy treat full of fluff, Hershey syrup, and graham crackers. Unfortunately, when I was getting mine, a soft drink spilled on me from above. Apparently fans keep their drinks on the ledge, so watch out! The park itself is older(built in 1926). It reminds me of McCormick Field in Asheville, NC(Home of the Tourists) and Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY. I have only been to two other single A parks, so it’s hard for me to compare. But, I would rather spend a night at McCormick Field or and Fluor Field(Greenville, SC — home of the Greenville Drive).

We had a great time at the game. It was one of their frequent promo nights, called Natty-night — two for one on Natural Light beer — the cheapest watery beer you can buy. Anyway, we were pleased as could be when the beer barista :-) said any beer on tap was 2 for 1. Nice! They had Yingling, Sam Adams Lager, Shock-top and a few others. Our seats where right behind home plate. Took my father-in-law who hadn’t been to a game at this stadium for 50+ years. Great stadium for it’s age. Seats are in need of a little TLC, some bent this way or that, so change and find another seat. Oh, and no cup holders. We had a good time. Great way to spend a few hours on a Savannah evening.

Grayson Stadium is the home of Savannah’s own Single-A baseball club, the Savannah Sand Gnats. They have been associated with the New York Mets since 2007 as a farm team. The Gnats are always a blast to watch and the seats are all a fair deal. Grayson is an excellent destination for families or just a group of buds looking to catch a ballgame and a brew. Thirsty Thursdays are always popular, when the beer is on tap for a discount. Gnate the Gnat is their lovable mascot and you’ll find him buzzing about the stands posing for pictures and just bugging everyone. Make sure you put on repellent to keep his biting little cousins at bay. Historic Grayson Stadium and the Savannah Sand Gnats are enjoyable gems of our city for locals and tourists alike.
