Dollar Rent A Car

I made a reservation on dollar about a month ago for October 7^th to pick up at the Hilton Head international airport in Savannah, GA. It is for me to drive to Jacksonville for a doctor’s appointment. I am unemployed and my sister is was paying for the rental. The day before I am due to pick up the rental, I called dollar and switched the pick up time only from noon to 9 PM. Because it’s the only time I was able to find a ride. I spoke to two different representatives Anthony and Mary between 9:45AM and 10:05AM on October 6^th. When I got to the airport around 6:30PM (with a 9:00PM reservation), I was told that I was 7 hours late for my reservation because it was supposed to be picked up at noon therefore there is no car available for me. I called the same number I called the previous day to make the switch and the representatives over the phone confirmed AGAIN that my pick up time was 9:00 PM. The front desk lady named Wila, kept insisting she cannot see the reservation. So I asked for a supervisor or a manager and he came out she told him what happened. He shrugged his shoulders and went back inside. During that time I am still on phone with dollar. The lady who I was speaking with called the airport and TOLD them my reservation is confirmed. They said there is nothing they can do because they didn’t find the reservation the car is no longer available and if I want another car I will have to make a new reservation and pay about $ 600 to get and SUV since that’s all they have. Mind you, my reservation was for a total of $ 158. I asked to speak to a manager over the phone and she said she is going to contact the manager at the location. I waited 1 hour. When she finally came back to the phone she told me they didn’t update their system and that is the reason why they didn’t see my reservation. Finally, manager Kimberly came out, very mad and unprofessional, complaining and cursing as if I was wrong. She said she can’t not give me a SUV for the price I booked even though I was not responsible for their mistake. I was at the airport for 2 hours and I needed the car to go to the doctor the next morning in Jacksonville with 2 kids. I am unemployed. My sister always rents from dollar at least 4 times a year and she is the one who referred me and gave me the money for the rental. No one wanted to help. No one tried to find me another car, no one was polite except the manager over the phone. As a courtesy, since I was not wrong I should have received any car available regardless of the price, with the same reservation I made. They didn’t even care to apologize. They humiliated me. They embarrassed me. My sister will NEVER rent with dollar again. dollar employees at the hilton head international airport location are disgusting. I will make sure this post gets on everything I see this company on.

I can only give two stars. I had over $ 300 in extra charges that I had to get fixed. Further, I was told that I would need to come into the branch on the days where extra drivers needed to be added.
I complied and made two extra trips for those drivers. When I checked out, they charged me for the entire days for the extra drivers. What a waste of my time? I had to fight for them to fix it. Lastly, the car wasn’t completely full when I picked it up and I added the same amount of gas, pretty much full to the dealership. The staff person told me that they would only charge me street value for the gas and it turns out that he lied!
When I called back to get the over charges removed I was informed that I would be charged $ 8 per gallon for the 3.7 gallons that remained. This is ridiculous.
If you think you are saving money with this company, you are sadly mistaken. Go with Hertz or Avis. There are no hidden fees nor surprises. Plus you’d get more transparency in their fees.
The only good thing was the person we initially checked in, gave us the request we asked for, which was a black truck. But her customer service was sub-​par too.

Runnnnn, I have a card that is an online banking card simple banking, and I had my trip planed around retting a car today. They said because it didn’t meet there policies they were not going to accept my card. And on that While talking to her GM started talking about a hole different subject «hub caps» while in front of me, learn customer service because I will never be one of yours. If I could there would be no stars.

Waited over an hour in line with only 5 people ahead of me… Three girls behind the counter and only one working…

We had to rent from Dollar because of the way our business organization finds the lowest bidder. I waited over 15 minutes in the Express lane because 2 people in front of me were asking 30,000 questions about places to eat (ever hear of Google? Trip Advisor? or Unilocal?). Then finally I was getting processed for a car, and was rudely told that I would get a Nissan Sentra or similar for the Intermediate sized vehicle. So I asked what kind of car would it be, and was told Nissan Sentra. I thought there might be other choices, since many rental companies will say «Ford Focus or similar» and you may end up with a Chevy Cruze. The bad part of the experience was turning the vehicle in. No one was at the desk at 7:30 in the morning. I had to write down the pertinent details and drop the keys, invoice, agreement into the box hoping that they’d process it fairly. I even wrote down my email address to request a receipt. Over 24 hours later, I still did not receive the receipt (Which I need to submit to get reimbursed) but they did tell me over the phone that the rental return was processed. There is almost non-​existent customer service at this particular Dollar.

Rent a bike, hitchhike or just walk better yet run before you rent from this business. Shannon was the young lady who waited on us and she represented the brand well. She had absolutely no customer focus at all. When we walked out to get in our car after she lectured us on making sure we bring the car back in good condition we find the front bumper area of the car falling off. (Later she said she knew about it, that it was only a broken clip that needed to be repaired to fix the bumper. One might ask Shannon if she knew that why would she rent a car that way after lecturing us about how we should return the car?) They didn’t offer another car from the lot, but rather took a car that had just been returned and went and did a quick car wash and gas fillup while we waited in 90 degree heat. Even that car had scratches and dents all over it.
There are many companies to rent a car from, save your DOLLAR and do NOT rent from DOLLAR and don’t put up with surly attitudes like Shannon’s.

Falsely advertised unlimited miles. Over charged me. Poorly managed. Turned around and called Hertz, my experience with Hertz was exceptional. Avoid!
