Captain Chuck’s Charters

I was visiting a few friends in the bay, and we decided to go on an outing with Captain Chuck; the trip was exciting (and educational) even for locals! There was lots of room up on deck for the four of us. Chuck is a fantastic sailor, tour guide, and host. He brought along a selection of tasty snacks and beverages, the boat was squeaky clean, and he let us help out with sailing or relax as much as we wanted. I highly recommend going out sailing with Chuck!

Captain Chuck and Mary are nothing but sweet and endearing. Their personalities couldn’t be better. Their reliability on the other hand is what is at question here. We were already booked with another charter, when Chuck offered us a great deal. He told us we had the day reserved and to cancel our other reservation. Chuck and Mary forgot to mention that when booking with them, you are booking just a boat, not a captain. By the time they explain this to us and send over a contract, we are a week away from our departure, with no captain to be found, and Chuck had made other arrangements to take a different group out. Needless to say, a week away from the big birthday charter, we got screwed. I am sure they would have been fun to go out with, but I am not impressed with how they conducted business with us. I could go on and on with my frustration with their execution and lack of customer service, but I think you get the idea… When spending the money to do a private charter, I think the #1 thing you want is reliability… and that might be the one thing they are missing… Bummed we never got to try Mary’s cookies…

I wanted to propose to my girlfriend on a boat and I contacted Captain Chuck to discuss that. Right from our first conversation, he was amazing. He helped me come up with a perfect plan to propose during the sunset with the Alcatraz in the background.
On the D-​day we got stuck in traffic and I was one hour late. He accommodated the change in the schedule with a smile and was very understanding. His wife, Mary, also accompanied us since I wanted someone to take pictures and a video as well. They are such an adorable couple. Mary even baked cookies for us, and when people say they are good, they are not kidding. Some of the best cookies we ever ate.
They offered us champaign and even got flowers for my girlfriend. While we were spending some time on the deck, Chuck clicked some amazing pictures for us.
Nutshell, this could NOT have gone any better. All thanks to Chuck and Mary. We are already looking for excuses to sail with them again!

PERFECT FAMILY OUTING! We booked the 3 hour tour for my husband’s birthday. I was looking for something we could do together as a family and this was awesome. We had a smaller boat, so just the six of us on the boat and the captain. Very clean, well appointed, boat with all the comforts of home, lots of room for everyone on deck or below. We had eaten lunch just before the tour, but I’d skip that next time. The charter provided wine, soda, cheese, crackers, chips and even homemade chocolate chip cookies made by the captain’s wife. The captain did the sails and we all had a turn at the wheel. Ok, mostly my husband, as he was having so much fun he did not want to give up the wheel, but it was his birthday after all. None of our family knew anything about sailing, so it was very interesting to learn about the different sails, boats, type of water conditions and land points of interest in the bay. We have taken other bay tours on bigger boats, but this trip we saw the bay and San Francisco in a way we had not ever seen before. Great for family or group of friends. The 3 hours went by very quickly, I was glad I did not get the shorter tour. This was truly quality family time, we will be booking another tour again very soon!

Cruising the Bay with Captain Chuck’s Charters is an incredible experience, one I recommend for everyone! I called with a last minute request and Capt. Chuck was very accommodating and quick to respond. I booked a 3 hour tour of the Bay and it was amazing from beginning to end! Captain Rod was in charge of our 36 foot boat «Wild Streak» and he is a wealth of knowledge about the Bay Area as well as the waters surrounding it. The most fun– being allowed to steer the boat for prolonged periods, all while Capt Rod talked you through it! It’s a little nerve wracking but he made it fun! I can’t thank you both enough for making it a very special trip. I hope to be back soon. Book a trip with these guys, you will NOT be sorry!

Six of us went out on the bigger sailboat late yesterday afternoon to spread a late friends ashes on The Bay. The weather was as perfect as it gets and Captain Chuck and crew are a class act. Beautiful boat and good people, I would highly recommend using these folks. A truly memorable evening!

We had SO much fun sailing with Captain Chuck yesterday! Worth every penny, hands down. There were four of us plus Captain Chuck, and while there definitely would have been room for two more people we had fun just the four of us. Delicious cookies and lots of beer, wine, and soda were provided. We brought some sandwiches, and we could have brought additional food and drink if we had wanted.
Captain Chuck provides the perfect balance of letting you help with the sailing while mostly being able to relax and enjoy the experience.
We sailed from 1−4pm and went under the Golden Gate and along the SF coast a little bit. It was the perfect length!

Let me save you some time and assure you to go ahead and book your tour with Captain Chuck. Everything about our entire experience was perfect. Easy to book, great directions, and an unforgettable sail. We felt completely confident in his abilities as a captain and enjoyed his easy going personality. He intuitively knew when to hang back and allow us some «couple time» and when to engage in lively conversation. He gives great sailing lessons, his wife’s chocolate chip cookies were outstanding, and his attention to detail was most appreciated. The Wild Streak is a beautiful boat and the views were absolutely terrific. He was accommodating to our specific needs and helped to create the most memorable birthday celebration one could ask for. Trust me, book your tour with Captain Chuck and you will not regret it. It simply doesn’t get any better.

Captain Chuck is the most professional, good hearted man I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with!

Yesterday I proposed to my girlfriend, only giving him notice the day before, showed up promptly and met him at the marina, led us to his elegant boat «Wild Streak», took all of our belongs and helped us aboard !
It’s like a scene out of a movie, the boat is absolutely gorgeous, comfortable to move around has a huge cabin for a 32′ boat equipped with the all time best refreshments on board — I’ll get to that later
* we were out of the marina in what seemed like less than 5 minutes, the 3 cylinder Universal Diesel engine is FAST! It was the quickest departure of any event I’ve had in my life, we got the show on the road and began to enjoy the rest of our epic trip under the power of the wind
Anyway, Captain Chuck could have led us into a monsoon, his personality is such that I wouldn’t have asked a question nor been the least bit concerned.
If you want to propose to your girlfriend this is the way to do it, if you want to take your family out for a cruise this is the guy, if you want 2 hours away from the world, a good drink and a chat with a truly intelligent genuine character: Captain Chuck is your man!
+ good mix of a little of everything to drink, some hinny kin lol, champs, sutter creek wine, rum and coke, 7up water and the best cookies of your life those cookies alone make it worth the $$$
I’m sure there was more in the refrigerator saw some buds, a couple bottles but there is something in there for everyone. It is bottomless

Jim and Missy, captain and skipper were terrific. We chartered the Colette Belle on Mother’s Day for a surprise sail on the Bay. This is a beautiful 59 foot sail boat with all the amenities and comforts. Captain Jim is a professional, a true sailing expert. He is patient, knowledgeable, and informative. We had 8 in our party, with an 8 and 4 year old girls. Missy was really great, helped to get children’s life jacket for our fussy and finicky 4 year old. It was a great time, the boat was beautiful and clean, the crew were very friendly and informative. It was just a really great day. The entire process of obtaining the boat and crew were very easy and the owner and staff are very easy to work with

I can’t say enough good things about Captain Chuck and this trip we took last Thursday! I also can’t wait to get back and take another cruise.
We bought this 3 hour tour as a Christmas present for visiting family and sailed the day after Christmas. We all loved it and talked about it for days.
I arranged the trip a few months in advance and Captain Chuck called and every detail was as promised. We took the 36′ Catalina, Wild Streak. The harbor was easy to find with their directions. The yacht was beautiful and spacious for the 6 of us, including Captain Chuck. We were able to ride up front and of course in the formal seating in the back. The boat has a roomy cabin with kitchen, bathroom, and dining area but the weather was so nice we really only went in the cabin for snacks (including his wife’s excellent chocolate chip cookies) and to use the bathroom.
Captain Chuck is incredibly personable and gets his passengers as involved as they want to be, including helping raise and change the sail, and steer the craft. He did a great job explaining, teaching and providing interesting historical information about the area. We didn’t really feel like we had a hired Captain, we felt like we was a friend sailing with us. He taught and allowed one of us to steer for much of the trip under his guidance and supervision.
We felt perfectly safe the entire trip. We were required to wear life jackets while on the front of the yacht since there aren’t seats. We got so many amazing photos of the bay, especially the Golden Gate Bridge during the afternoon and at sunset. We arranged a 3 hour trip to depart at 2:30 PM so we’d be returning after sunset and could see the lights on the city and bridges.
I highly recommend this trip and will definitely be back!

Sailed today with Captain Chucks charters ! We had such an amazing time. The personal touches to make each moment special didn’t go unnoticed. I didn’t want to go on a boat ride that made us feel like tourists… Captain Chuck made us feel like family and let us be daring and involved the whole time ! We will be back and we will bring family! Thank you for a day full of memories… oh and not to mention to die for homemade chocolate chip cookies!

We used Capt Chuck to help us with a loved one’s last wish, for his ashes to be scattered under the Golden Gate Bridge and he was perfect. The fee was very reasonable and we took our time (about 3 hrs.) and he was always alert and willing to tell us about the other crafts on the water. Thanks Captain Chuck.

Just went on our second sail with Captain Chuck and had an AMAZING experience. Last time, we went during the sunset which I definitely recommend. But this time, we went on a warm, clear, and somewhat windy (of course) day in September. There were hundreds of other boats in the water, choppers flying everywhere and a fighter jet that flew by a couple times — what a great day to go sailing. We were able to go underneath the golden gate, which was unbelievable. He let my wife and I take control for a good amount of time and we were able to learn so much about sailing. As soon as we got off, my wife and I were planning our next excursion with him. We highly recommend and know you will not be disappointed. And his wife, Mary, makes the most delicious cookies — zero trans fat ;-) Thanks Captain Chuck!

Captain Chuck was an awesome Captain. I got this trip as a surprise from my girlfriend, and was unsure of what to expect. We were greeted by Chuck and greeted warmly. He lead us to his sail boat «wildstreak» and gave us safety instructions. The trip from the harbor, down under the golden gate and back, was absolutely beautiful. Chuck had a great deal of knowledge about the bay, and truly loved sailing. He brought us warm apple cider, provided beer, and even freshly homemade chocolate chip cookies. He brought a bouquet of beautiful roses, (it was our anniversary) and even provided us blankets, as the sun set set and the temperature dropped. It was a beautiful romantic sail, and i highly recommend chuck for a romantic couples date!!!

What a great time we had on the bay!
My wife and I chartered Captain Chuck’s services while staying in Sausalito to celebrate her birthday. We had a chance to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge which was the highlight, and Chuck provided drinks and sandwiches as well. He was also quick to answer all of our questions about places of interest in and around the bay. Clearly this is someone who enjoys his job and has spent a lifetime on these waters. I am sure Chuck will provide a memorable experience. We plan on returning with a bigger party at some point and look forward to it.
If you’re in the Marin inner-​coastal area and looking to get out on the water, I would choose Captain Chuck!

Captain Chuck was great, and a great value! I was helping to plan my friend’s bachelorette party, and we decided to start the night out with a chartered boat. I did a lot of research, and Captain Chuck had the best deals for a group of our size in Sausalito or San Francisco.
Booking the trip went smoothly, and although navigating the harbor area parking lot was a little tricky, when we got on the boat, I was happily surprised; it looked bigger than it had on the website: there was a bed inside, a TV, an eating area, and a little kitchen, not that we spent any time inside.
We spent the beginning of the ride on the front of the boat, where we sailed under the golden gate bridge. When it got a little colder, we came back to the back of the boat and talked and ate snacks, and Captain Chuck even let us steer the boat a bit. Individual bottles/​cans of beer, wine, and soda were provided, as well as chocolate chip cookies (made by his wife), and a bunch of packaged snack platters, like veggies and dip or cheese and crackers. We ate as much as we wanted to, but there were still plenty of leftovers which he let us take home.
Although my friends arrived at the boat 30 – 40 minutes late for our two-​hour boat ride, and I expected that that meant we’d get a 90 minute or so boat ride, we ended up taking two hours anyway, which was unnecessarily nice of Captain Chuck,
We all really liked Captain Chuck himself. He seemed to have a good sense of when he should stand back and let us talk to each other, and when to participate in the goings-​on. He’s a genuinely nice guy, and interesting to talk to. He seems like the kind of guy who would be your favorite high school science teacher.

My boyfriend and I were in San Francisco and wanted to do an evening boat trip. Captain Chuck turned out to be better than any dinner cruise we could have booked — he was funny, knowledgeable about the area, and made our time out at sea very comfortable. He provided beer, wine, cheese and crackers, and his wife had even made us chocolate chip cookies. He also took pictures and emailed them to us promptly after our cruise.
Although we were there on a day that was a bit foggy, we got great views of the golden gate bridge, some city lights, and beautiful Sausalito. We went on the sunset cruise, so we got to watch the sun set and all of the light turn on :-)
If you’re looking for something cute, romantic, or just plain fun, Chuck is the way to go! Chuck seems flexible towards any crowd. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks Chuck for an amazing time!

My girlfriend surprised me for my birthday with a bay cruise aboard Chuck’s sailboat.
Captain Chuck himself: The nicest, coolest guy ever. A pleasure to talk to and we were comfortable with him the whole time. He took pictures, offered beer, wine, water and/​or soda along with fresh-​baked cookies and brownies.
The cruise was awesome as was the weather. The temperature was around 75 degrees, the water was calm, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky — Perfect! We couldn’t have asked for better views of GG Bridge, SF skyline, Sausalito and Belvedere.
I would (and already have) recommend Chuck to anyone looking for a private sailing charter. I hope to go on one of his fishing trips in the near future…
