Bay View Salon

I used to come to bayview salon regularly to get my nails done. They have a great selection of gel colors and the main guy Sony used to be very friendly and a fellow 49er fan. One time he did 9er nails for my sister and I and they looked great. Yesterday I went to bayview hoping to receive great nail care & design but was unpleasantly surprised. Sony, who before could do an intricate SF logo on a nail, could now not even do a simple straight line Red/​green design. My nails turned out really bad and he was unwilling to help me fix it and told me to just do a solid color. I became very frustrated as I had come all the way here from OAKLAND in hopes of getting a great experience but Sony was cold, and unhelpful. He even told me that he didn’t have the tools to draw a straight line, when there was a basket of them sitting behind him. I will never be coming back here and my tip is DONT COME HERE FOR NAIL DESIGNS! & POOR CUSTOMER LOYALTY APPRECIATION!

If you are considering getting your hair cut/​styled here. DON’T! They rush (especially if you have long hair like me) they are lazy, impatient and unprofessional. They also struggle to listen and communicate. I understand that this is not a high end salon, but I’m paying to get my hair cut and styled by a «trained cosmetologist», if not I would have done my hair myself. I explained to the hair dresser what I wanted and she refused to do so. She was at first not in the mood to wash my hair and dropped her jaw when I asked. She cut it sloppy and didn’t layer it. Then she dried my hair partially on the lowest setting on cold and then proceeded to flat iron it while still wet! I nicely asked her to please completely dry my hair and she refused, and said the flat iron is hot enough to dry my hair! That is a No No! I’m not paying to have my hair burnt, frizzy and frumpy. Terrible service, terrible quality! Go elsewhere it is a waste of time and money! No one wants to have a bad hair day right out of the salon, especially when crunched for time! Yikes

Sonny and Nina are the best! I’ve been a regular for over a year now and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else!

Always professional, cordial and clean. That’s about all I ask for in a salon and Bayview delivers.
For the price, which is very reasonable, my pedicures include a hot stone rub. The fills and gel colors I receive are also very reasonable, and Sonny is happy to mix/​create a custom color. He’s creative and perfectionistic.

This is no longer an acceptable Salon to have your hair done in Sausalito. The wonderful hairstylist that worked here has left as of December and now they’ve hired Linda. My husband tried her first and came home extremely disappointed with his haircut. He gave her 3 explicit instructions, she did not listen to any of the 3.
I tried her for simple, blonde highlights and came home with orange lines all throughout my hair. I called and asked for a refund and was told that they would have Nina fix it and offered a haircut to make up for the mistake. When I got there, they had Linda there to fix it, not Nina. From there Linda applied brown hair dye all throughout my hair vs. only on the orange areas. The entire time I was asking, «isn’t that going to dye my highlights brown?» She insisted it wouldn’t. She then chopped off 6 inches of my hair for my free haircut. The haircut resembles a mullet (short up front, long in the back) and the blond highlights that I paid for are now brown.
In summary, I sat for a total of 4 hours and ended up with a brown mullet which is a far cry from my blonde highlights in my long hair that I initially went there for.

I ignored the negative comments and wanted to give it a try. I absolutely agree with other Unilocalers’ comments about unpleasant experience, nails chipping, rude (Nina), bad wax experience.

One of the sad things in life is that people feel much more motivated to complain, when they’re not happy, than praise, when they are. I was very happy with the mania-​pedi I had at this very moderately-​priced salon — and my friend loved the frosting they did on her long hair.
What the salon lacks in «chic» it more than makes up for with spaciousness, graciousness, and a staff that works very hard to please. The manicurist did great job and painted a really cute design on one nail of each hand (exactly what I wanted) and the same on my toes (which looked great for at least two weeks). The brow waxing is, hands down, the best I’ve ever had — anywhere — including Paris, London and Milan.
I know some people have had bad experiences here. But that can probably be said of virtually every salon in the world. My own experience was just the opposite. And there’s one thing nobody could dispute: the prices are very, very reasonable. I paid under $ 100 for a manicure, pedicure and wax — including tips for the three people who worked on me. The last time I paid that little for so much, I’m pretty sure Bill Clinton was president.

Love Nina. She is the best. I will recommend her to everyone. Nice job, great customer service and reasonable price.

I found this place off living social and absolutely loved it! I got a shellac manicure and hot stone pedicure. They did an amazing job with both. I continued to come here for about a year after trying them out with living social and had an amazing experience every time. Too bad I moved, the drive is a little too far for me now.

Like a few other recent customers here, I had a similar, AWFUL experience. And I’m bummed because I am looking for a new place to get my nails done that is close to home — this is only blocks — but NO WAY!
I went twice. First visit I got the gel mani and «spa» pedicure which entailed awkward hot stones rolled around my ankles, nails cut so short and trimmed so aggressively they bled and I winced with pain throughout. I ended up with scabs and the pedicure was very poorly painted — a few edges missed entirely and it only lasted a few days before it was chipping — usually they last until they simply grow out, about 3 weeks.
The manicure was done at the same time. He did not paint to the full edge of the nail — instead, made an oval shape so they looked grown out a few days later. Polish also peeled and cracked within a week. And the light you have to put your hands under to set gave my pale skin a sunburn-​like sting and redness — so OUCH all around. The man was very nice though and gave me a coupon to come back once I needed them redone.
So, a couple weeks later I called to make an appointment, explaining I didn’t like the gel and the painful experience with the botched pedicure, so she told me to come in at 5 for a discounted regular mani-​pedi.
I showed up 10 minutes early, happy to pick out fun new colors so I said hello to the woman in front and started toward the colors and her «welcome» was a big scowl and muttering something about they are too busy. I explained I had an appt. and she again muttered that 5 won’t work (because they had allowed too many walk-​ins). All of the staff looked miserable and annoyed with me — NO smile, welcome, sorry, anything. So I said I at least needed them to remove the gel polish from my fingernails and won’t get what I had scheduled.
The man was very cold this time — although a ray of sunshine compared to the woman I presume is his wife/​an owner. He removed my polish then pointed me over to get a pedicure… and I am pretty sure the water had not been changed. I said, no, I don’t want to bother them and will not get anything else done. He said he hoped I’d try to come back again and did not charge me anything, thank goodness, but I will definitely never return to this miserable, painful salon.
No deal is worth going here so don’t buy any of the many coupons out there!

I only give them two stars because of the fabulous job one lady did on my toe nails. She was nice and meticulous. However, the guy doing my fingernails was rough, filed into my skin, and did a pretty bad job painting my nails. The color isn’t even, doesn’t color my entire nail, and had nicks in it before he even finished. I really hope they sterilize their equipment because I got nicked up pretty badly. I also watched them washing the foot baths and get this: THEY USE HAND SOAP NOT A SANITIZING SOLUTION!!! I’m pretty worried I may have caught something. I don’t get my nails done often (maybe once every couple years), but I have learned my lesson. Stay away from this salon.

Well I’m glad the few people who Unilocaled had good experiences at this place because I didn’t like it.
They had a deal and I went for it, they were doing their pedicure and Gel manicure for $ 35. There’s a reason.
So here it goes– I personally don’t like it when two people work on your hands and feet time because the result is usually not good.
The lady first cut my toenails too short after the fact so I didn’t have a chance to say anything; the lady working on my hands actually said, «usually clients tell us they want them cut even»… What? As I’ve come to know this from nail experiences, no one ever says sorry. I mean come on it would help. I think they just done care. Then the hand lady seemed irritated to show me new colors which other girls were viewing. Ok there’s the end, my nails 2 days later.

What a great find! I went in for the salon’s signature stone pedicure and shellac manicure and they did a perfect job at a great discount. The pedicure was more luxurious then most in Marin I’ve experienced. The hot stones smoothed my feet down along with a unique tool for my calluses that was much more efficient then a normal pumice stone and it didn’t tickle AT ALL. There was a whopping selection of 250 different colors in their shellac polishes and they put on FIVE layers of the polish to ensure no chipping. The man Sonny working there was very kind, funny and conversational, which was a nice bonus considering many other nail salons have the workers yelling across the floor to one another and ignore you completely. There was no wait when I arrived at 10:00am and the messaging chairs were the BEST! Just like a real masseuse. My search for the right nail salon is finally complete.

I’ve been following Sonny and Nina from Nina’s Nails in terra Linda, to Novato, and now here in Sausalito. They have the largest collection of gel brands and colors (OPI, Lechat, gelish, gel II, shellac, couture) and if you see a color you want– they will order it for you! The gel mani lasts 3 weeks– there’s no beating that! Nina’s pedicure is complete with a sander, exfoliating salts, and a hot stone. Plus, they have 3 amazing massage chairs. The only nail salon open on Sundays too– for us 9−5ers. I live in the city and I still come over the bridge for the best mani pedi in the north bay + marina sf.

I meant to give them five and a half stars. I was extremely satisfied with them on every level except for the ambiance could use a little work and there is a little bit of waiting. Don’t get me wrong, they are fine right now. But if they decide to renovate the salon, I would be there every week.
The guy who help me out (Sonny) took really good care of my nails. All their tools were sanitized and clean. They have massage chairs for you while you soak your feet. They use acetone free products to remove nail polish. They are very knowledgeable about what kind of nails i should do. Everyone was super friendly and they made me feel comfortable. The whole process did not hurt one bit and I would definitely be back again.

Nina and Sonny moved Nina’s Nails from Novato to this fabulous new nail salon in Sausalito. I agree they both deserve more than 5 stars!!! I’ve been going to them for over 8 years following them wherever they go — they are both that good! I don’t like pain and Sonny is so gentle. Plus he has a new technique for silk fills that lasts for three or four weeks before I need a touch-​up — and I’m hard on my nails.
This new location is light, airy and beautifully equipped with new state of the art pedicure chairs that vibrate your back while Nina does a wonderful pedicure.
If you need your nails done Sonny and Nina are definitely the best in the field and worth a visit. I give them 10 stars and an A++++

I love BONG! I have not had my nails done in years and I brought my mum in for a mani pedi, and I have been coming back ever since. I love the Shellack nails and my nails stay strong and lovely. I love the fact that I live across the road so its super close but also that they always fit me in.
She works 7 days a week, not just there but is always so pleasant and happy. She seems to really enjoy her work. I like that about her. I love the closed packaged nail implements they open for each customer. I have no worries of contamination or fungal infections.
I will be coming back for years to come.

Bong and Gina are the best. I have been getting my nails done here about 3 years now. Just recently Bong tried out Shellack on my nails… I LOVE IT! polish stays on about two weeks and my nails stay strong and healthy. I’ve had friends who have tried Shellack at other nail salons and said it ruined there nails, not at bay view salon! Prices are competitive and salon is clean and breathable (no strong polish odor)
