SMH Urgent Care Center at Stickney Point

Great place for urgent care, especially for those w/​o a local dr. Friendly and efficient staff. Very clean and pleasant. I don’t usually like being seen by a physician’s assistant but the one I saw here was very good. Because a radiologist is not on site, you can wait a very long time for a reading since your images have to get in the queue with all the other centers (and the hospital). Doctors at other SMH urgent cate centers were very competant and nice.

This is a branch of the hospital, BEWARE, your insurance company may charge you like you went to the ER and not like you went to an urgent care center. I called SMH Urgent Care Center before going and asked how much the copay was and they said it’s billed like a specialist copay. Now they are coming after me for the extra $ 50 to make it an ER copay because the hospital actually owns and operates it and the hospital submits the bill with the hospital’s taxpayer id number. It was fine for urgent care, but not for $ 100 ER copay. I was annoyed that it was even the $ 50 copay, my regular copay for walk in minute clinics or going to a pediatrician is only $ 25.

Horrible service. Went because we don’t live in the area, and my 17 year old son had a secondary infection on his ankle due to poison ivy. The doctor took a look at it and started talking about chlamydia and gonorrhea!!! When I reiterated that it was on his ankle, his response was «well you know 17 year old boys.» Left with a RX for an antibiotic. Went to the E./R (NOT Sarasota Memorial) the next day, and because of the severity of the infection, they administered an antibiotic by IV, cultured the wound, and did a blood test to ensure that the infection hadn’t reached the blood… they felt this should have been done the previous day given the look of the infected site.
What’s worse is that I asked to talk to somebody about this experience. A secretary did call. I asked her to please have a physician call and she agreed. However, I received a form letter in the mail (no phone call) that the case has been reviewed and is now closed. I am actually considering legal action. This could have been easily avoided with a simple phone call by somebody with some authority.

I went to the SMH Urgent Care and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to see a Physicians Assistant. The check in was a breeze, very friendly. The nursing staff was excellent and thorough. I saw the P.A. and she was treated and out within a very short time. They even followed up the next day to make sure I was doing OK and then, Memorial Hospital Pharmacy followed up to make sure that I was doing alright on the medication that was prescribed! I was quite pleased with the whole experience. The facility that I visited was located at Bee Ridge Rd and Center Gate Blvd.

The Outrageous Price!!! I went to the Sarasota Urgent Care in Venice. I had been bitten by something and had a skin reaction to it on my wrist. The Dr. blew in and spent maybe 3 minutes with me. He said it was dermatitis and perscribed antibiotics and predisone. It cost me $ 300.00 for the visit!!! I’ve been to Urgent Care Facilities up north and it has never cost more than $ 80.00 To add complete insult to injury, the condition was worse in 2 days and I had to go to a dermatologist. At least he treated it correctly and it cost me $ 47.00.

The place is clean the staff is nice they took us quick. They NEVER listened to my sons chest (we went because of a severe cough) they prescribed antibiotics and steroids ?? I calked my home dr she was baffled???

took my sister there for a eye issue. she has chronic condition when eye goes bad she needs to make sure no detached retina. the PA and MD need to go back to school. any first year resident can use the magnifier and see a detached retina. they said they could not do that and sent her to a specialist. except they did not refer her to any one and would not assist in making an appointment. my sister could have had permanent damage to eyes and they could care less. the md proceeded to tell me the pa was a physician. I have worked in health care all my life and a pa is NOT a physician. but neither was that md worthless and life could be in jeopardy if you go there.
the front desk lady refer us to center sight for eyes, she was only savings in this event.

They cashed $ 140 to say my son with a back pain to go to a specialist.
The registration personnel instead of sorry sarcastically wished me a nice day on my wish to see the manger and demand to return my money.

Great experience, much better than what awaited at the ER.
The facility looked new even though it’s been open for more than 2 yrs. very well maintained and clean.
Staff were courteous, professional, and efficient. We were seen by the PA who was most helpful. Infection control measures were top notch.
The right facility, with the right staff.
Hope to never have the need, but if I do, we’ll be headed back there.

Outrageous prices and sub-​par care.
A couple months ago, my young son managed to get a paper cut on his EYEBALL. (OUCH) After calling around town trying to find an eye doctor who could treat him without luck (note to Sarasota doctors: kids need specialized care, too), we decided to take him to Sarasota Memorial Urgent Care, choosing them because their website specifically mentions they treat eye injuries.
Check-​in process and wait time were quite reasonable, which is why they didn’t get zero stars.
As you might imagine, my son’s eye was in considerable pain, and so he had a bit of a freak-​out when they first attempted to put some drops in. The physician was basically useless. He had ZERO bedside manner and was acting like treating my son’s injury was going to take extraordinary measures. He said we were going to have to take him to St. Pete because he was sure no one in Sarasota would be able to help him. Whaaa? We got my son calmed down and asked the doctor to come back in the room to administer the drops, but the nurse said he advised us we’d have to take him to the emergency room at the hospital. Which we ended up doing and the competent staff there treated him quickly, accurately, and with abundant care.
Today we received a bill for $ 379 from the Urgent Care. That’s right, $ 379 to have a rude doctor stand in the exam room, never even touching the patient, and say he can’t do anything for you.
USELESS. Go elsewhere.
