Sailor Circus in Sarasota, Florida is known worldwide as «The Greatest ‘Little’ Show on Earth.» Originating in 1949 as a small high school gymnastics class, Sailor Circus has grown into a spectacular youth training program with dazzling performances that are a major tourist attraction in Sarasota, Florida. Sailor Circus shows feature more than a hundred youth performers, and shows are open to the public in winter and spring. In nearly seven decades of operation, more than a million spectators have attended Sailor Circus performances. The Sailor Circus Academy is a highly-​disciplined, after-​school training program for students age 8 – 18 and a top circus school in the USA. Community classes in the circus arts are also available for adults and children throughout the year.

History

Established in 1949.

1949 — The Sailor Circus was originally founded as a high school gymnastics program.

1952 — An official of Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus officially dubbed Sailor Circus as «The Greatest „Little“ Show On Earth.»

1967 — Sailor Circus gets its permanent home on Bahia Vista Street.

1981 — Construction of a new, expanded facility is completed.

2011 — Circus Sarasota inherits Sailor Circus Program, and Sailor Circus Academy becomes a top circus school in the USA.
