Center For Sight

I was dismayed to hear of my mother’s experience at Center for Sight. Under a 3 month money back guarantee trial, she tried three different types of contacts, each of which hurt her eyes terribly. Not the doctor’s fault, but when she invoked the money back policy, she was denied. Eventually, she was vindicated, but not without a lot of pushback and criticism from the dragon lady at the desk who blamed by mother for the loss the office would suffer from the contacts.
This place is a machine. No customer service, sketch business practices.

My father has been a patient of Dr. Lahners and several others in this practice, and while he likes the care he receives what he dislikes is the wait times.
Today we were taken in at 9:40 for a 9:30 appointment (a record ~ we were excited). Michelle did a thorough exam and the. Dropped us in the back waiting area where we waited 25 minutes for Megan to do a 5 minute macular degeneration test.
Then we wait again to see Dr. Lahners. So far we’ve invested 1.5 hours for a routine exam and we aren’t done yet. Our visit with Dr. Lahners and his assistant Betty Ann was quick and efficient, and we left with a new prescription for eyeglasses.
We don’t come back for a year, and frankly after spending almost 2 hours for a routine eye exam, I’m happy about that.

I had my yearly check up and ask to check my sight also, it was no change since I was there last year. When I came home I just realized that I was not given my eye prescription, so I called for it. I was told I coul have it but I must pay extra $ 45 for it.
My insurance covers everything I said it is my information??? O no we will not give it
as this was not covered… I ask for last year as this was ok to give it to me on my previous vist… O no it is one year old and we can’t give it to you!
This is my info the visit was covered by insurence it is a disgusting way to extract money… it is a shame as they have excellent doctors but it is a shame for the doctors also. It seems that they have a cooperation running everything… that is a concern that could affect eventually medical treatment… watch out .
This is not the first time I experience this. They have great medical terms for any extra, they will in twine you in… be carful and question anything before you sign !
It is shame that we have to question everything …

Bottom line: This place may be pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Bad luck with the gene pool means that I developed cataracts in both eyes when I was just a baby. I had my left cataract removed by a pediatric ophthalmologist in an experimental surgery as a small child, then waited until I was an adult to remove the right one. Dr. Lahners performed this second surgery, and it went very well.
Surgery experience:
— I got the fancier multifocal lens. The extra cost was not covered by insurance, but Dr. Lahners recommended it, and I must wholeheartedly agree.
— The surgery was done in three separate procedures: (1) lens replacement, (2) touch-​up LASIK, (3) Nd: YAG laser treatment to prevent formation of scar tissue. I don’t think any of the procedures lasted longer than 30 minutes. In addition, I found that my vision improved dramatically with the new lens, and then experienced another significant improvement after the follow-​up LASIK.
— Dr. Lahners’ bedside manner is fantastic, and I felt at ease during all phases of all of my procedures
— I couldn’t get a ride home after one of my procedures, but the facility actually had a complimentary shuttle service. This is super convenient, but still a last resort: since I was alone at home and mildly drugged, I couldn’t read my bottles or remember which one contained the pain pill I was supposed to be taking. Instead of risking taking the wrong medicine, I chose to take nothing until someone got home. I spent that time waiting in some discomfort, which could have been prevented if I had planned ahead better.
— You get funny looks from the other patients in the cataract surgery waiting area when you are in your 20’s. One nice old lady even asked if maybe I had wandered into the wrong place.
Surgery results:
— Like I said, I had my right eye done recently by Dr. Lahners and my left done by someone else when I was a child. The vision in my right is now significantly better than my left, and this can be attributed to several factors:
(1) The multifocal lens makes a big difference. My right eye has a much easier time focusing on objects than my left now, and this has made a huge improvement in my quality of life, particularly on bright days when my right eye used to be occluded.
(2) The follow-​up LASIK and Nd: YAG treatments make a noticeable difference, although not as big as the new lens did.
(3) The field in general has advanced significantly in the years between my two surgeries. To some extent, my results likely would have been at least a little better with any surgeon. However, to have a single surgeon expertly manage every step of my treatment likely had its benefits too. Compared to my first surgery, this was the deluxe 5-​star package, and I certainly noticed the difference.
Takeaways:
— I do get the impression that Center for Sight is expensive. I’m cost-​conscious, so I might choose to go to a less expensive place for routine checkups and glasses/​contacts.
— However, when it comes to surgery, I’d certainly prefer to have the best, even if it costs more. After all, with surgery you may not get a second chance. And from my experience, Dr. Lahners is one of the best.

I feel like Center for Sight gets a bad rap because they are expensive. My response would be: don’t you think that there should be a significant cost associated with using lasers to correct your vision? I would expect to have the best surgeons with the most advanced training and I would expect to pay quite a bit for that service. I think Dr. Lahners easily fits the bill for Lasik and I’m willing to pay his fee.
If you are looking for Lasik do your home work and shop around. I think you’ll find that Dr. Lahners offers something that can’t be beat in this area. The staff here has been nothing but gracious and I appreciate the time that they have taken with me because they have been very thorough. I would expect nothing less when it comes to my sight,

I had lasik eye surgery here with DR. Lahners. It was one of the worst experiences of my life! It’s like you’re on a assembly line. You never see the same person twice. The doctor never even came in to see me before surgery. By the time he walked in I already had one eye taped shut and the other filled with drops so I couldn’t see. For $ 6000 you think he could spend a minute to make sure your ok or have any last minute concerns! Then when I sat up from them cutting the flap (you have to change rooms) I felt faint so i sat back down. A woman stuck her head in and asked the two VERY SWEET techs what the problem was. They told her I felt faint and she said «well her color is fine so lets go» I guess I was holding up the assembly line!!! I spent maybe 10 minutes upstairs including the surgery. I went back the next morning to see the doctor and found out that that’s the last time I see him. I get passed off to another doctor for all follow up! AGAIN for $ 6000 you would think Lahners would do ALL follow up. I guess he must be to busy flying his private plane around which he can afford to do charging that much for so little!
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The assistants, for the most part, are very nice but that’s all there is to say nice about this place. I know they do this surgery often but Lahners seems to forget that it’s the patients first time!

I would not recommend Center for Sight to anyone. Center for Sight is the type of medical office that feels more like they’re interested in making money than well being. I left this place feeling less like a patient and more like a customer. Yes I know you offer laser surgery, I watched the little promo video that runs on repeat in the waiting room. I just want my contact lenses prescription, I know it makes you a lot of money but stop uncomfortably trying to upsell it.
Hidden fees are big here too. My insurance covers the entire cost of an eye exam, I know this because I called my insurer to double check. Yet why I did leave still owing like $ 80? Because you had to blow air in my eye when all. I. wanted. was. to. update. my. contact. lenses.
