We grind stumps on Banks, Planter Boxes, On Top of Walls, Surrounded by Concrete we have even ground stumps in A Glass Terrarium inside a home with white carpet in Rancho Bernardo. Established in 1995.

After being downsized for the third time in 1995 (don;t you love that word honey I shrunk my job), I decided it was time to start my new business.. I decided early on the business would only do super quality work, with customer service that is second to none. I bought my first grinder and Gordy’s Stump Grinding was born. Thanks to our loyal customer base we now own 7 stump grinders from very small hand held units to very large units that ride on rubber tank tracks. We now grind for Homeowners, HOA’s, Golf Courses, Hospitals, Colleges, Cities, Business Complex’s, Landscapers, Fence Companies and about 35 different Tree Companies. Afterworking 30 years in the turf and tree business with company’s like Toro, Snapper, Tru Cut, Echo, The Green Machine, Bandit, Rayco, American Eagle and International, I decided it was time to start my own business.

The year was 1995 and Gordy’s Stump Grinding was born with one stump grinder towed behind a small pick up truck, I did not have a trailer to put it on. Thanks to our loyal customer base we now have 7 Grinders, 3 trailers and 2 trucks and we have earned a reputation thats second to none. A family owned business thats is run the Old School way by Gordy and my Son Scott.

We love honest people. Scott came out to give us a quote for stump removal. He knew we were about to have our land level by bobcat, so he suggested we save our money on stump removal and have the bobcat guy pull it up by the root. There are so many contractors out to make a quick buck, but Scott is one of the few honest people left. Please use them if you need stump grind/​remove. Our stumps were old and very brittle, so it made since to pull it up. Will definitely recommend them to our friends.

I hate to have to write a negative review because clearly they do a good job, but I have called over 4 times and left two messages, but nobody has returned my call. I know I should have already gone with another company, but this one has such great reviews. Guess it is time to move on!

All the 5 star reviews here are right on! These guys are great. Don’t waste your time «interviewing» several other people or companies (found on Craigslist) like I did. These guys have the right equipment, were on time, and it’s a good price.
They removed 100+ stumps from my yard in Encinitas and I’ll have them back out again when they are done clearing the rest of the property.

We had a huge pepper tree in our backyard that we wanted to get rid of. My husband cut down as much as he could, but he needed heavy machinery to get rid of the stump. Gordy came to the rescue well prepared with his son. Both were very friendly and professional. We should have called them sooner instead of trying to do it ourselves. Really nice guys that are good at stump grinding.

Stump grinding done proper. Father and son have the experience and equipment for every job. They guarantee your satisfaction. Next time you need your trees serviced DO NOT call Henderson Tree Service (see review) and always call Gordy for all stump grinding jobs. Top notch from start to leaf blowing clean finish. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! If I could leave more than 5 stars I would. I was extremely impressed with Gordys. He showed up Friday evening gave us a quote and the job was completed Monday morning before noon. They beyond exceeded our expectations. I know nothing about stump grinding equipment but they have some great equipment. Chewed up a large stump in minutes. They also had great customer service, by far my best find on Unilocal to date. And trust me we hired a lot of people off Unilocal reviews. Don’t waste your time or money with other companies, just call Gordys, you won’t be sorry.

Based on superior reviews I saw on another site, I’ve used Gordy’s Stump Grinding service twice since. Both times father and son came and brought 2 trucks and several size grinders. The prices were remarkable reasonable, just over $ 100 to remove a single large trunk. FYI the trunks and roots aren’t actually removed, but ground up and turned to mulch. Very agreeable guys with good personalities. I’ve referred them to two other friends who used them and got good reports back as well. You can’t get better than these guys.

I had 2 massive alder stumps grown around/​over with a year’s worth of weeds & debris. Didn’t matter… Gordy & crew came out, not only got out the stumps, but also the pesky roots that ran along the top of the ground. The roots were beginning to lift parts of our hardscape; Gordy went around & got ‘em out, especially since we want to lay artificial turf. And he’s guaranteed his work forever!!! If we bulldoze to lay the foundation for the turf, and find roots we can’t deal with, he’ll come back, no charge.
How does it get any better than that? Price was more than fair!

My husband is a «do it yourself» type and removed over a dozen trees from our yard. The stumps were the only daunting part — especially since some of them were in a very tight spot surrounded by concrete.
I thought ours would be a difficult job, but I can tell these guys have done much tougher jobs than ours. They have contracts with several cities, colleges, etc. so I was worried it would cost a lot more money than the «cheap» guys. Happy to find out I was wrong! Their prices are very reasonable, and they did all the stumps in less than 2 hours.
The equipment they use is more advanced than most. They own grinders of various sizes, and have modified them to make them more powerful, fit in tight spots, etc. Basically, they’re doing it the «smart way», not the «hard way». The «tight spot» machine was especially helpful with our job (none of the concrete was damaged).
What I especially liked was the workers themselves. Gordy and his son Scott were super-​friendly, and it feels great to support such a nice Father/​Son team (they told me they could get bigger if they wanted, but prefer to just keep it as the two of them).
I’m going to upload some photos of my job — my favorite is the one where both Gordy & Scott are working on the same stump (they used the «tight spot» machine to work around our plumbing, and the bigger machine to do the heavy grinding).
We would use them again in a heartbeat — highly recommended.

Im a big do-​it-​yourselfer, worked construction, been in the military, and pretty much covered the gamit of jobs, but I gratefully hired Gordy’s to do this one for me. Do yourself a favor and call them if you need a stump removed.
We had a 50 year old Ficus stump in our front yard that had roots going out at least 12 feet in each direction that were probably 10 inches high, along with 6 other smaller stumps. Our yard was a complete mess of nothing but roots. Gordy and his son Scott came out with a stump grinder the size of small car and did twice as much work as I was expecting for their quoted price. Im the type of person that will spend 6 hours on the internet to save $ 10. So I reasearched this task sure I could do it myself and save a buck. Turns out the largest stump grinder I could rent costs nearly $ 200/​day and is half the size of the one used by Gordy. The smaller stump grinder means it takes longer and does not go down as deep. After seeing what they did, I estimate it would have taken me two days to complete this task, plus my labor, plus the risk of not knowing what I was doing. Do the math yourself. But I ended up saving a ton of cash and headache, plus Gordy and Scott are super awesome dudes and I had a blast BS’ing with them after they finished the job. Great service, would hire them again in a second.

A while back, after we bought our house in Fletcher Hills, Gordy and his son Scott came out and did a fast and efficient job of removing a lot of stumps. Their prices were reasonable and they clearly knew their stuff.
The same day, I showed Scott an ugly 8 ft. metal pole that some former owner of our house had embedded in concrete– it didn’t look like that thing was ever going anywhere. I don’t think it was in their job description, but Scott took it as a challenge and dug that out too.
Recently we discovered another stump hidden just under the surface of the dirt. Gordy’s came back and ground it out for free, though we were more than willing to pay. I call that really standing behind your work.
