Fox Mountain Adventures is an extraordinary sleepaway summer camp for 10 – 17 year-​olds located in the mountains of San Diego! At Fox, experience 50+ amazing activities and electives each week all designed to ensure campers are safe, engaged, and having an absolute blast. With nighttime laser tag, archery, ga-​ga, rock climbing, improvisational comedy, campfires, daily surprises, weekly themes, and so much more, its no wonder our campers are talking about summer camp at Fox Mountain all year long.

Fox offers an Overnight Adventure camp for ages 10 – 15, and San Diego’s only sleep-​away Improv Comedy Camp for High School campers. Come for one week or stay all summer! And parents be sure to check our new three-​day Summer Camp for Adults!

Fox Mountain Adventures is accredited by the American Camp Association, following over 250 national standards of health and safety.

History

Established in 2012.

Fox Mountain Adventures was started as the sister camp to the award-​winning day camp, Outpost Summer Camps, in San Diego.

Nestled at the base of the Palomar Mountains, Camp Fox served well over 75,000 students as a 6th grade camp program before being closed to students due to budget cuts in 2010. We are so excited to reopen the Camp Fox site once again to kids in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education’s Department of Outdoor Education, so future campers can discover what thousands of other kids already know — Fox is a life-​changing experience!

Business Owner

Michael Baum is the Executive Director of Fox Mountain Adventures. Michael has worked in the camp industry since 2003, and has been a camp director in Southern California since 2009. Over his 13 years in the camp industry, Michael has worked with hundreds of staff and thousands of campers at resident camps, outdoor education centers, day camps, and after school programs, with his true passion being resident camp. Michael is a frequent speaker on camper management and staff development at American Camp Association events, and works with a variety of youth agencies during the off-​season as a consultant on their recreation programming.

My son attended this camp in 2015 and we signed him up for 2016. Words cannot describe the many benefits of Fox Mountain. The intentional character building activities coupled with a true camp experience (no digital tools allowed), multi age range child centered themes, healthy meals, and high rate of activity, it just doesn’t get any better than Fox Mountain Adventures. My son loves this camp so much that we have been able to utilize attendance this year as an incentive to push himself to achieve even higher grades in school, picked up more responsibilities at home, and even participated in several volunteer activities throughout the year. I view this camp as a high return investment in my son’s future. The camp staff and director Michael are genuinely good people that care about what they do. I am forever grateful.

Hello, Unilocal.This is officially my first review EVER! I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t register and leave one for this amazing origination. WOW!!! Where do I start? I was blown away with the facility, the staff and the entire experience. My daughter went for 2 weeks and the camp far exceeded our expectations.
FACILITY: This rustic camp is exactly what we were looking for. Away from the city and surrounded by nature! The staff extends themselves to no end to making sure the kids are well attended to.
ROOMS: Clean and comfortable — what more could you ask for.
FOOD: My daughter had a dietary limitation that was accommodated for and she said the food was GREAT!
ELECTIVES: The days are jammed packed full of activities and there are several «electives» the kids can choose from to customize their week of adventure!!!
VALUE: What an exception value for a lifetime worth of memories.
Coming back for 4 weeks next year!

My son attended camp this summer and had an absolute great time!
I like that he had the opportunity to reconnect with the outdoors and tried so many new things. He rates archery as top of the list!
No phones, play stations or iPads allowed which is what most parents are so grateful for. He met so many new friends and hasn’t stopped talking about Fox Mountain since he got home.
If your looking for a summer camp and hat is convenient and loaded with awesome activities for your child, Fox Mountain is the camp!

This was a fantastic summer camp and our family highly recommends it. Our daughter attended the high school improv camp this past July and can’t stop talking about what a great time she had. The first thing she said when she got home was «I’m going back next year.» She instantly bonded with the other kids at the camp and stated she felt like she’s known them for years. They are all keeping in touch. We were a little worried about what food would be served because our daughter is a picky eater. She said she ate everything and the food was very good. That alone speaks volumes. There was a wide variety of food. The counselors were excellent and very receptive to the kids and to us as parents when we had questions. There is a solid communication line open. This camp is in a nice location at Palomar Mountain and easy to get to. The facilities looked great from what I could tell when we dropped her off. In addition to the improv activities, our daughter had a lot of choices for afternoon activities. There was never a lack of things to do. You know it’s a great camp when your child comes home after 5 days and says she didn’t miss you. Thank you Fox Mountain!

My 14 year old son just returned from a week at camp, and he had his best week ever! He was off electronics for a full week, and never missed it. The kids moved from one activity to the next under the guidance of their counselors, and there was never a moment to be bored. The food was great and the company greater! The counselors were terrific with the kids, and the nurse is kind and smart – she was able to ensure my son was well cared for despite an autoimmune disorder. Michael, who runs the camp is the most upbeat, high energy person I’ve met – perfect for a camp counselor. My son’s cabin was managed by a history teacher who obviously enjoys kids and made the stay even more fun with board games and interesting discussion with the teens. The teens attended a Improv classes led by a great instructor, Steve who is a terrific teacher – fun, yet disciplined. My son wants to go back next year. The only disappointment I had was that my son didn’t miss me at all! Thank you, Fox Mountain Adventures for giving my son the best week of his life!

If you are in San Diego or anywhere in Southern California you must try this camp for your kids! Our son attended Fox for one week last summer, and is already signed up to go for four weeks this summer. (Seriously!!!)
He absolutely loved all the activities the counselors had planned, and was busy from morning until night. My son enjoys video games and TV back home, but Fox was the one place where he had so much fun (and active) stuff to do he truly didn’t miss it! That is a big statement and I can’t express how happy that makes me!
As a parent, I thought the directors did a fantastic job answering all my questions both before and during the summer. And the counselors really seemed to care about the kids and making sure they were included and involved in everything the camp did.
I wish I was a kid again so I could go too! But wait, I hear that Fox Mountain Adventures will have adult camp programs next summer!

I was lucky enough to work here this past summer. I have been a counselor at day camps before, which are amazing. Working at Fox for just a week opened my eyes to how much a camper can change in just one week. Within the first few hours of my girls arriving at Fox they were laughing, creating inside jokes, and even, braiding each other’s hair.
Beyond that we did have some trying times in the cabin. As it is with girls emotions ran high, but it was so amazing to see the girls run through the spectrum of emotions from sadness, to frustration, and finally understanding, compassion, and forgiveness (over something as simple as «stolen lip gloss» to losing a friend).
I learned a lot about each of my girls but also as a teacher. That summer shaped how I teach in my classroom every day. I look forward to going back in future summers and see my original girls develop and grow as young women. I recommend to all of my middle school and high school students to spend one summer at resident camp to learn many of the essential skills they will need throughout their lives.

Our son had an amazing experience at Fox Mountain Adventures. It was his first time away from home without his parents, and it couldn’t have gone any smoother. The communication leading up to camp was fantastic. We knew exactly what he needed to pack, where he needed to be, and at what time he needed to be there. The staff was all incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, and eager to make my son feel welcome. We received daily updates from the director, and a glimpse into how our son was doing through their online picture posting capability. We were also able to send one-​way emails as a way to send a little bit of home each day (if we wanted). Our son came home from camp literally counting the days until he gets to return next summer. I actually even think he experienced a bit of «camp sickness» if there is such a thing. He so desperately wants to go back! There is no doubt we will be sending our son to Fox Mountain Adventures next summer.
