This place was good until they sold it. The waitress this morning need server 101 for dummies. Only five couples there today and only one cup of coffee. The gentleman in one of the tables had to get up and ask for another cup of coffee. You would think now that one table is asking for coffee the waitress would make her rounds and checked the other tables, but again that would be waitress 101. She goes back to the kitchen to hang out. I have been a customer for about 10 years(Ana Perez) was the owner they where never open on Mondays. Me and my wife every Tuesday morning we where the waitresses new us by name and had coffee for us before we even ordered. Now you can’t even get a refill. Now I will need to find a place that me and my wife can injoy and become regulars… I will never be back to this place again. When I was paying I ask the cashier and ask about what’s going on with the service and no refills and stated we should of asked. Again this place will go under if the service doesn’t improve and the staff gets training service 101.

I LOVE pupusas! This place hits the spot! Absolutely delicious! They have a great menu selection! I want to try them all! A bit of a drive but well worth it! Definitely coming back!

Ok, it wasn’t my plan to take my wife here. My first choice had a ridiculous wait time and my backup plan had a line out the door. I didn’t have a plan C. Unilocal found me several alternatives that weren’t too far from where we were. We like Salvadorean food and Pupuseria Salvadorena looked the most appealing, so we went for it. As it turned out, this blunder was actually a blessing in disguise. The restaurant was roomy. The restroom was clean. The service was fine to me. The workers were friendly and patiently addressed our inquiries about the menu. We ordered a few items to sample the fare. The Pupusa de Chicharron y Frijole(pork & beans) and the Pupusa de Chicharron y Queso(pork & cheese) were nicely made. I liked the slightly pan-fried crunch contrasted with the gooey cheese inside. I think they said they used an imported mozzarella. Either way, it tasted much better than I am used to for mozzarella. They were also generous with the curtido(cabbage slaw). But jeepers this stuff was really hot! What was interesting was the Tamal con Pollo(chicken tamale). This meat-masa bundle was also mixed with green beans in it. Not something I’m used to having but it was moist and flavorful. The Tamal de Elote(sweet corn tamale) tasted so corny good that I should have ordered another one or two. We loved it! Personally not a fan of the mushy filling in the Empanada de Plantano con Leche(plantain mash with milk) but the crust was great. We were glad we ate here. And we didn’t have to wait to be seated! Sometimes, things are funny that way. So fret not if your initial ideas don’t pan out. Search for plan C.

Agree with most reviewers. Food is delicious, price is excellent, but the service is a miss. Wait times are always terrible. I’ve tried calling in my order only to be put on hold for 10+ minutes(multiple times) until I had to hang up. It can take upwards to 45 minutes for two bean/cheese pupusas! The owner needs to get more kitchen staff and train the employees to be friendlier. Update: Last night, we were a party of four that arrived half an hour before closing. They would not let us sit down at table and said we could only order to go. What’s the point of saying you close at 9PM if we can’t eat here well before 9PM? Their loss because we went somewhere else.

Extensive menu selections, incredibly inexpensive, large portions. Recommended by local business person. Very attentive staff even for take out. Red bean-large and filling. Spinach and squash lighter but very flavorful.

I’ve been coming to this place for years and not once have they ever dissapointed me. Their pupusas are always made fresh and never a dry consistency which I like. The cheese melts in your mouth and is very delicious. I usually order pupusas revueltas which have I believe merinated pork beans and cheese which an horchata. Other times I usually get the sopa de pollo which has such a tasty and flavorful broth. If uou want to try some delicous qnd unique central American food, this is the place!

I’ve been coming here for years for the pupusas and other tasty antojitos like the Tamal de Elote, the Pasteles de Pollo con Papa, and the Nuegados. The Frijol y Queso and Queco con Loroco are my go-to pupusas. Service can be slow when they get busy. I often call ahead to order takeout; it’s best to give a half-hour buffer when doing so. The atmosphere is no-nonsense, it’s-all-about-the-food, but clean and comfortable. Prices are hard to beat — my wife and I can both fill up for around $ 10, total.

These three stars are really solely for the food. I mean, it is one of the few places that sell decent pupusas, and these ones here are very tasty and well made. However, the service tends to be very sloooow and the tables remain dirty long after guests leave. And the workers are busting, it seems they are just understaffed. Management needs to add more staff, it is not like they don’t get enough revenue. Let them pray another pupuseria with better service doesn’t come along and sends them on their way.

I love me some pupusas, or as my sisters like to call them Pup-U.S.A.s! This unsuspecting place is located next to a 7 – 11 and across the Sonoma fair grounds. They deliver on them tasty pups! Granted they can take forever to actually give you your order(30+ mins) but they are worth it. If you’re in a rush, your best best is to call ahead(old roomie complained about the wait, but what did he know?). On to the food! Personally I dig a good cheese pupusa, as well as cheese and chicharrón, although this does come with a lil spicy kick(stay away if it’s not your thing). These babies are the size of a decent pancake, and they are HOT and crispy. Generally they will give you green and red salsa(I’m partial to the red) as well as the crudito. Now I usually get a corn tamale with crema on the side(Salvadorian cream is saltier and an off an cream color), it tastes like the corn stuff they give you at Chevy’s(which I’m a sucker for). For desert, I get the platano con leche, which is a fried cinnamon sweet plantain stuffed with a pudding that tastes like arroz con leche. NOM! Beware! The horchata here is not what the Mexican restaurants serve! It’s more chocolately in taste, something different if you ask me. If you have an hour and a half or more to kill then this place is for you! … That tamale is on my mind now… mmmm

Ok, ok, I get it, every time I go here for takeout the place could use a scrub down. It’s super busy during peak hours and their pickup time can be a little spotty. I’ve had to wait on occasion, 15 or 20 extra minutes past their given time. That outta the way, it’s got some killer papusas that are outta this world. I’ve been to El Salvador & these papusas are the real deal. Recommend the pork & cheese papusas, perfectly cooked soft pork mixed with cheesy goodness. Hand wrapped in a nice toasted corn meal dough called masa de maize. Love it! Has an optional crunchy cabbage topping. I prefer their red sauce over the green, but both are tasty. Costs $ 2.50 a piece. Also would highly recommend the chicken soup, great on a chilly day, and order it with the fried chicken. Comes with rice, potatoes, carrots & zucchini. The juicy, nicely cooked chicken comes on the side so it stays a little crunchy. Absolutely delicious comforting food.

Great food meets horrible service. Ordered food to go, waited 30 mins and was told to move 2 times as we were sitting waiting for our food. Pretty amazing how you can ask paying customers to move from where they are sitting. Even more amazing that you can ask them to do it twice and then be shocked and offended when you ask for a refund.

A solid 4 stars for the pupusas, they are tasty, filling and cheap, the salsas provided, a green and red so accent the pupusas in just the right way. The service is very hit or miss, and this place can get crowded on the weekends and at lunch during the week. It is pretty much a seat yourself type deal and hope that a waitress comes over. I have a few times had to go to the counter to order as we were being ignored. You go here for the food, not the service and not the ambiance. I have only had the pupusas but have heard that the tamales are tasty… just know what your are walking into, don’t set your customer service expectations on high and you will be just fine. Parking can be an issue as the parking lot is shared with a few other businesses and this place is not in the best part of town.

Good food at cheap prices with friendly service. I especially like the papusa with cheese and squash flower. Very casual and family friendly environment. If the place is busy, there can be a bit of a wait for the food but you can always get take out if you want.

It’s the first time I had this type of food but I fell in love with it already. We agreed that every time we visit Sonoma, we have to stop here. I love the cheese pupusa the most. My husband loves the pork one the most. They are all so good and tasty. The cheese with Spinich or squash is good too. Yum!

As some of the other reviewers have noted, the service here is bad. And by bad I mean absolutely abysmal. It began when I ordered. I asked for the pupusa de frijol with a side of rice and beans. The girl looked at me in total confusion and said«a pupusa with just cheese?» I said no. Frijol. BEANS. Just beans, because I’m allergic to cheese. This should not be a difficult request since«pupusa de frijol» is on the frigging MENU. She finally acted like she got it and I went to sit down. I waited a ridiculously long time, perhaps 35 minutes. When the food arrived, the pupusa was filled with nothing but cheese. I had to send it back and wait another 20 or so minutes for them to replace it. It was a delicious pupusa, I won’t lie, and the beans, salsa, and cabbage pickle were all very good. The rice was a bit too salty but alright. I wish the service was better because I’d like to go back. As it is, I won’t bother– it was more trouble than it was worth.

Buen comida pero el lugar esta decente pero son muy lentos para atender si son amables pero siempre tengo que esperar 20 min a 40 minutos para tener la comida en mi mesa después de ordenar por eso solo le doy 4 estrellas

Wow, randomly stumbled on this place and I was lea scantly surprised how tasty it was! The place was packed in 2:00pm so I assumed there was a good reason. Menu has a lot of single items so you can try many things. Waitress said Pupusas were their specialty and I learned along time ago ALWAYS try what they are good at first. Was not disappointed at all. Also had the corn tamale(sweet, like dessert), and an Empanada. Will definitely be back to try more!!! Atmosphere a little cheap and quite simple, but food makes up for the lack of ambiance.

Don’t get me wrong the pupusas here are out of this world. But everything else will make you not want to come back. First of all, the atmosphere isn’t the greatest. Sticky floors, cheap plates, etc. But hey, I don’t need fine dining when it comes to great food. My biggest concern is actually the service… it is SOSLOW and very disorganized. Last time I was there I waited 45 minutes for 2 pupusas and a tamale. By then I had to get it to go because I was late back to work(which was another 15 minute ordeal). As much as I loved the food, I hated the service more.

Simply the best pupusas I have ever had. If you’ve been going to Mexican restaurants for pupusas, you’ve been cheated. The queso y frijole pupusas are my favorite, but there are no bad pupusas here. They carry loroco pupusas, which is from a vine that produces edible flowers from El Salvador. If you have not tried loroco, I highly recommend that you do. Their curtido is perfectly seasoned too! If you’re a fan of platanos, order the platanos fritos. Salvadorians beat the Cubans at the platanos fritos game. The red and green sauce is to die for. Refreshing drinks and delicious horchata that isn’t gritty or overly sweet. Service is great, establishment is meticulously cleaned, food is cooked when ordered and is so inexpensive to eat. Doesn’t get any better than this place!
