Grift’s Appliance & Classic Range Service

This is the second time I have had to have Grift’s out to work on the drier. I was not home 3.5 yrs ago to meet him, but l was this time. He was efficient and professional. I learned a bit about the appliances and a litttle preventive maintenance stuff l could do to perhaps extend the life of some appliances as well. I have had Mark to the house twice and have recommended him to friends who have also been satisfied. Some things can’t or shouldn’t be fixed (cost vs value), Mark has been fair and helpful with his advice and repair skills. l will continue to recommend his service.

This guy is reliable, through and highly skilled. He knows everything you could possible know about stoves and appliances. Years ago he rebuilt our vintage O’Keefe and Merrit stove and it has been cooking like a champ ever since. He is a master at vintage stove repair. Recently we had trouble with our newish refrigerator, and he was able ton diagnose the problem over the phone. He showed up first thing the next morning and had the thermostat replaced and the fridge blowing cold in no time flat. What a great resource to have in our community. If you have any issues or troubles with you appliances, this is definitely the guy to call.

The old stove guy fixed my very high tech low water usage dryer and told me how to prevent damage to the $ 500 computer module through a minor change to my vent system and prevent it from plugging.

Mark knows his old stoves! He came and gave our 1940’s O’keefe and Merritt stove a tune up and discovered a potentially dangerous situation and was able to repair it with ease. We are very grateful for that! The knobs on this stove were so hard to turn and he fixed them all up. His response time was fantastic and communication was perfect! I can’t recommend him highly enough. These old stoves are such wonderful treasures and it’s nice to know that Mark is here to help them live even longer lives!

I didn’t even realize how much gas was leaking into my house until Mark fixed my vintage stove. He was a direct referral from the PG&E service technician, highly recommended. The stove is no longer problematic. His service call was educational, and I appreciated his enthusiastic demeanor. He showed me how to disassemble the stove for cleaning, which parts needed replacing, how to clean out the burners, how to keep the oven door closing tightly, and how to open up the gas valves on the burners. He also explained what the front and back burners are for [I had no idea what the diffuser plates were!] So now I love my stove again! I wish I had called him immediately after this stove was purchased. Could have saved me many a headache.

Over the New Year’s weekend the door on our O’Keefe and Merritt broke loose at our vacation house near Forestville. We found Mark after a quick search on the net and he was out here a day later. He had to do some improvising to make a new piece for the hinge, he also tuned up the ovens, the burners and educated us in the ongoing maintenance of our stove. His prices are right, his sense of how to do the job right is obvious from the get go. Call him without a doubt. You won’t go wrong.

My 1941 Roper range needed a tune-​up. After reading the reviews posted here, I called Mark at Grift’s Appliance & Classic Range Service. FANTASTIC is the word that comes to mind! A stove doctor par excellence. His energetic stove-​side manner plus knowledgeable skills had our Roper humming in less than half an hour. And did I mention the virtual wealth of information for us do-​it-​yourselfers? Woohoo!

Mark installed a new motor in our 17 year old Maytag gas dryer with two quick visits first to determine what was wrong, then ordered the part that same day and successfully installed a day later. Mark has serviced our washer and dryer maybe 3 times over the past 15 years each time leaving us completely satisfied with the results of his work. The man is a credit to his profession, we would recommend him without hesitation.

My husband and I have to add our 5 stars for Mark! At our home in Monte Rio, he assisted us with our refrigerator as it was on the fritz, gave us valuable pointers regarding the soap scum being left all over my glassware in our dishwasher, and even recommended surge protectors for some of our other appliances to help protect their longevity. I wish all service professionals were as knowledgeable and conscientious as Mark. I even plan to get his recommendations for other service professionals (eg. plumbers, electricians, etc.), since I would expect them to meet his high standards. Don’t hesitate to call him. He might even be able to simply assist you over the phone! He’s that good!

I called Mark concerning our front loading wash machine, upon a high recommendation from a pal. He asked me a few questions about make, model etc. He then talked to my husband about a common problem that this particular machine has and recommended to him where to check and what to do to fix it. Well Mark’s «the Man!» (and hubs too naturally). He did need to come out but with little work involved, got us up and running for a very reasonable fee.

Twenty-​plus years ago, we found a ’53 O’Keefe and Merritt stove at a garage sale. My parents said, «Call Mark at Grift’s.» We did. Mark carted Stove away and tinkered until everything worked. Flash forward to September, 2011. Stove needed a little help (hey, don’t we all?). Mark made a house call and Stove’s now set for another 20 years, although I had so much fun and learned so much about old stoves I’d be glad to have him show up monthly, just to share his love and knowledge of old stoves. The icing on this particular cake: his rates are low!

I’d looked for several years to find someone that was knowledgeable about Wedgewood Stoves in the North Bay. I had bought a 50s stove on CL and did some restoration work to it but could never find someone that knew how to hook it up for propane gas. I found Grift’s on Unilocal and called Mark. He got back to me the same day, talked at length about how to check the stove to see if it had all the right parts to be hooked up and converted. It was immediately apparent that he really knew his stuff. He came out that weekend and not only help us move it into the house but got it all hooked up and checked out in about an hour. I’m just so happy because I’ve been dreaming about having this stove in my kitchen for 5 years and now it’s finally done. It’s such a dream to cook on these old stoves and it’s a shame that it’s so hard to find people that are willing to work on them for a reasonable fee. I had some real safety concerns with them and Mark really did a great job answering all our questions and making some changes on the stove that would help with that. I highly recommend Mark for his prompt service and reasonable fees and he’s a pretty funny guy too!

I was at my mother-in-law’s house in Santa Rosa installing new electrical service. Testing new dryer wiring, I noticed the dryer was making noise. My electrician recommended Griff’s in Sebastapol. They accommodated my schedule and showed up before I went home. Technician checked all the usual trouble spots, then quickly found a foreign object in the lint filter. Also cleaned the gas stove burners at my request. Cost was very reasonable, and he knew exactly what he was doing. Some other repair places might have told me it was a thrust bearing or nuclear discharge port and charged a LOT for fake repairs. Not Griff’s. Very highly recommended for appliance repairs in Sonoma County — if you want competence and honesty, that is.
