Business Owner

Before becoming a well-​established plastic surgeon in Santa Rosa, Dr. Canales owned and operated a practice in Boston, Massachusetts. There, he also worked as a faculty member in the division of plastic surgery at Harvard Medical School.

When he relocated to Sonoma County, Dr. Canales served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and as Chief of Surgery at Warrack Hospital. In 1992 he co-​founded Plastic Surgery Associates with his wife, Dr. Heather Furnas. He is board-​certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the elite American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Canales feels a strong connection to Latin America and volunteers his skill and experience repairing cleft lips and birth defects to children in Nicaragua, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina, and Kenya.

I had a great experience at Allegro! I went in for botox and fillers. Kirstie was supervising a new injector and they were both very professional and listened to my concerns; I have small lips and was looking for a little enhancement but my husband was super worried I’d look like a duck! haha. I couldn’t have been happier with the results for both treatments– and my husband was pleasantly surprised! :) All the ladies there were super friendly and made my trip enjoyable. Will definitely return and have already told my friends about Allegro!

Allegro Medspa is the best! I have been going to Allegro for a couple of years now and I am always greeted personally when I walk in the door. The staff make you feel that they know you personally and are so glad to see you. It is a very comfortable environment. I always have Joy do my Botox injections and she is absolutely wonderful. As stated in other reviews, Joy knows exactly where to inject to get the best results. I have also had Juvaderm injected in my lips with marvelous results. I have been to other offices for the same procedures and never felt welcomed or comfortable. The staff at Allegro go above and beyond for their clients. It is not surprising that they always get «Best of Sonoma County» award for med spas.

I came in with my friend Veronica to get her lips done. I decided to make an appointment with the same lady, Joy. Joy has over 20 years of experience.
While booking my appointment the receptionist said that I needed a consultation with the nurse practitioner (Carolyn) to be approved for the procedure. So I booked my appointment on a day that Carolyn would be there for an approval appointment and right after I would go with Joy to actually get the procedure done. My appointment was 3 weeks away.
I came in for my appointment, they had me under Carolyn for the procedure.? I explained to them that I was not comfortable getting a procedure with someone who I haven’t seen any of their work.
Considering maybe getting the procedure done with her because I was already there for my appointment I asked to see any before /​after pictures of her work and they don’t have any.
I took my approval appointment with Carolyn since it was necessary and to get it out-​of-​the-​way.
I did not get my lips done that day. I’d rather wait and get it with the nurse I felt more comfortable. I booked another appointment with Joy (in another 3 weeks).
I get a confirmation call two days prior to my appointment for which they said they had me down for AGAIN Carolyn…
I cancelled my appointment.
I’m not being heard for the 3rd time what I want. It’s not right

I love Allegro Med Spa for my Jevederm! The customer service is fantastic and the nurses always do a fantastic job! I love the fact that they will educate you on products if asked but don’t bug you about buying them like other Med-​Spas.

I had an appointment at Allegro MedSpa on Saturday. I was so excited to be able to have a treatment on the weekend. I know a lot of other places are only open the same hours I work. I was greeted by Meg and Chantal at the front desk. They were full of smiles and very warm, and friendly. I knew as soon as I walked in I loved this place! Chantal helped me with all my skin care needs before my treatment. She was a wealth of skincare knowledge. I saw Joy for my Botox treatment. I felt like she really listened to me. She was so kind, and offered me really great recommendations. I have to say she was the most gentle nurse I’ve ever had. I’ve been getting Botox for a few years now and when she treated me, I never even felt a pinch. She was an absolute delight! I checked out with Meg, she was so nice, I could have talked to her for hours. I felt really compelled to write this review because my experience wasn’t just about going to get Botox, it felt like I was seeing old friends. I couldn’t be happier! 5 stars all the way!

As a patient of Dr. Canales, and a background in aesthetics, it is with great pleasure that I write this review.
I come here to see Joy for Juvaderm and Botox. Each and every time I have minimal bleeding/​swelling/​bruising. She is honest about what is needed, and is confident in her work. I have been to many other cosmetic surgery offices to receive treatments and left with heavy brows from poor placement, and uneven lips. Joy has even corrected a botched job I had in SF a year ago. She’s amazing and I highly recommend her.

I had the pleasure of having a «Dermasweep» with infusion treatment at Allegra Med Spa which was absolutely outstanding. I am always somewhat hesitant to try new products or in this case a treatment due to my extreme skin sensitivity, but with Chantel’s professionalism and knowledge, I was sold. Chantel walked me through the entire procedure prior to treatment… answered all questions of concern and educated me as to what my skin type needs without the high selling pressure of most salon/​spa facilities. I am sure this will be a great skin maintenance treatment for me, and was not the least hesitant to make another appointment.
The receptionists at Allegra Med Spa are pleasant, welcoming and make you feel comfortable from the moment you set foot through the door. We also had a great laugh over the spelling of a name on my gift certificate. These ladies are great, and we can add «fun» to that as well.
I am not a resident of Sonoma County but it will be worth the two hour trip from the Valley for my next «Dermasweep» treatment.

I’ve been to Allegro Med Spa several times, and each time I’ve been very impressed with the inviting environment, the variety of available treatments and especially, the warmth of the staff. All the individuals with whom I’ve interacted — front office staff, consultants and treatment providers — have been informative, helpful and extremely professional, while being personable and warm. That is not always an easy balance to achieve. The thing I most appreciate — besides the excellence of the services themselves — are the warm and caring attitudes of the staff. I will continue to go to them for treatments and products, and I recommend this facility without reservation.

I have been here a total of 3 times and each time it gets better.
I receive Botox injections about every 4 months and the doctor has such a gentle touch. Barely hurts at all. She knows exactly where to put each injection as if it’s an art. I definitely recommend Allegro Med spa!

I have been a patient here for many years and can honestly say I’ve never had a bad experience. Having had treatments with just about everyone (nurses and estheticians) I feel the staff goes above and beyond to give their patients a great experience from start to finish. I have problematic skin, acneic at times, as well as sensitivity to a lot of products. The products they offer are great and have really helped my skin. My 2 favorite treatments are Botox and Dermasweep… I recommend to all!
