Vanilla Bake Shop

Cute little bake shop. Has full size and mini cupcakes, as well as other little pastries. The shop is convenient to the mall so you can walk over if you’re in the area. The red velvet cupcake was probably the best I ordered. It was moist and flavorful. There was a bit of a crowd so we had to wait about 10 minutes before we were served. There was only one person working, which means he had to serve you the cupcakes and play cashier. It would run a little smoother if they had more help but maybe I was there during an uncharacteristically busy time.

I’m a big macaron fan and they make some yummy ones. Chocolate, coffee and pistachio are the best. Love this place!

Decided to walk a few blocks from 2^nd and 3^rd street area since my friend and I were craving sweets after brunch. This place is quiet and cute! My taste buds wanted to try everything.
We ordered 3 minis cupcakes to share and a cookie to go. We tried the Vanilla Bean, Spicy Carrot Cake, and a Chocolate flavor. The presentation was super cute. It did the trick to fulfill my sweet tooth but I’d say there wasn’t anything special. For what it is, it’s pricey.

UPDATE: The manager called me back, offered a full refund, and a $ 25 gift card to try them out again.
Even though the call took a while I still appreciate that they acknowledged my criticism and did everything they could to make it better.
Their customer service definitely makes me want to give them a second chance!

I’ve always like Vanilla Bake Shop. My favorite are the Ice Box Desserts. I just ordered a bunch of them for New Years Eve, The Dirt Cake and Southern Banana Pudding are insanely good and just the perfect bite! French Macaroons are beautiful and colorful and most importantly, taste good. They come in flavors from traditional French vanilla to passion fruit and caramel sea salt. Brownies are fudgy and delicious as are the lemon bars. there are a lot of variety of cookies from regular chocolate chip to the butter pecan melt-​away, Cupcake flavors change daily but you can always count on vanilla bean, mom’s birthday cake, southern red velvet, cinnamon vanilla, bittersweet dark chocolate. and chocolate vanilla bean. Classic cakes will set you back $ 40 for a six inch round (serves 8 – 10). We love the Vanilla Bean with Vanilla Bean Buttercream.

Where to start? Placed a 2 tier custom cake for my son’s 100 day party. Emailed the manager and sent a simple design to duplicate. Banners across the top with simple 100 day and my sons name. The manager approved and even asked if I want the same font as the picture. I was surprised they can duplicate the font because the sample font was a bit fancy which I was not expecting. The party started the following sun at noon and the manager promised the cake will be ready to pickup by 10:30 am. I receive a call at 10 notifying me that the cake was delayed and will deliver free of charge by noon. Not a big deal so we waited. 12:20 and no cake. All of our 60 guest waiting because the we could not take pictures due to no cake. Wtf? Finally arrived 45 mins late. We ended up paying our photographer $ 200 extra for the hour we lost. The worst thing was the banners and letters on the cake looked like it was made by a 5 year old. Probably because they were late and rushed the decorations. On top of that, no apology from the manager. My wife was so pissed she called several times and left messages for the past 2 months and we are still waiting for her call back. What a joke of a bakery and manager. I can’t believe we paid that much money for a cake when we could of spent ¹⁄₁₀ of the cost at Ralph’s super market that looks much better.

On my search for the best cupcake in LA I came to vanilla bake shop. I tried the key lime cupcake which was delicious. The cake was moist and fluffy and most importantly there was key lime infused in the cake which made thus cupcake the standout. The frosting had the right amount of sweetness. There was a good cake to frosting ratio. Overall, if you get one cupcake here make it the key lime.
The Semisweet Dark Chocolate was solid but forgettable. It’s hard to mess up chocolate and while they didn’t mess it up they didn’t do anything interesting and this was a generic cupcake. Overall, solid but pedestrian in execution.
The Meyer Raspberry Lemon was very good. The lemon curd filling was deliciously sour and contracted nicely with the sweetness of the frosting and the torched sugar. To make this cupcake exceptional it could’ve used lemon infusion throughout the cake since without the frosting the cake lacked punch.
Well worth a visit.

Stopped by this afternoon for a quick treat! I had read about recommendations for the key lime cupcake, but they only bake those on certain days!
I picked out a spicy carrot cupcake & some type of strawberry/​chocolate macarón. The macaron was just okay, it was kind of dense and overly sweet, unlike how I like a macaron to be – light and easy to eat. However, the cupcake on the other hand was delicious! I love that the cupcake crumbled as you begin to eat it, and the flavors were really nice for a carrot cake.
Everything else looked so yummy too, so I’ll definitely have to stop by again next time I’m in the area.

More people should say «thank you», the way my co-​worker said «thank you».
My co-​worker bought me a beautiful Christmas cupcake from Vanilla Bake Shop. The icing work was intricate. The icing was the perfect blend of butter and sugar for my palate. The cake was a moist, flavorful carrier for the icing. It was a little masterpiece and I’m bound to do more favors if more «thank you» come in the form of a Vanilla Bake Shop cup cake.

Anywho, Vanilla was pretty darn good. I bought three of the mini cupcakes and they were delish + the lemon bar was excellent.
So, in a pinch…

A little bit expensive but the fact that they sell stuffed/​filled mini cupcakes more than makes up for it.
The real winner here and when I say winner in this situation I mean winner like one of the overall guaranteed best pies ever. Bum bum bum bum…
The Whiskey Tollhouse Cookie Pie.
–it’s basically a giant cookie filled with melt whiskey chocolate.

Came at the end of the day so not too many flavors left. I was eyeing their cute baby cupcakes and bought a few. The vanilla, cookies and cream, spicy carrot and dark chocolate. Perfect bite size treats. Had their boxed however I guess the four cupcakes weren’t big enough to stay still in the box so when I opened it when I got home it was a mess! Quite disappointed. Still delicious though. They have great deal on holidays! Got my treats for a steal! They are located right near wholefoods.

The three stars are mostly because the service was horrendous. The employee stared at us angrily the entire time we discussed which cupcakes we should get and proceeded to snap at us the entire time we ordered. Not a nice way to treat customers of a bakery — out of all places. Despite the service, the place itself was cute and all of the of desserts looked absolutely delicious. I ordered the Confetti Vanilla Cupcake which appeared and tasted dry. However, my friends got dark chocolate cupcakes and found them to be extremely moist, so it may just be the vanilla. For the frosting, kind of tasteless and a little overly light. However, when combined in a bite with the cupcake, tasted like your average cupcake.

Vanilla Bake Shop has massive cookies, colorful macarons, as well as a few other eye-​catching sweets – but their main specialty is miniature, bite-​size cupcakes.
They have several flavors, some of which are mainstays and some of which change based on the day of the week. I tried a group of three: Red Velvet, Chocolate Chip Banana, and Key Lime Pie. The Red Velvet was the most popular, but the Key Lime Pie was my favorite (I may be biased Floridian though). Consistency was thoroughly cakey, and substantial enough to make me eat each in two bites despite their size. None of the varieties were too greasy (a fault I often find some mini cupcakes to be guilty off).
The only problem? Each mini cupcake is $ 2 each (!), making it an extravagant $ 6 for a trio. As good as they were, I couldn’t justify paying $ 6 for these mere morsels.
Still, they are beautifully decorated, so if you’ve got some extra $$$ and are looking to score some oohs and aahs at a party, it may not be such a bad choice.
There are a few tables for indoor seating, but space is tiny and not particularly inviting for sitting and having a slow coffee + dessert afternoon.
Delicious, but I’m not in a rush to go back.

We got a couple dozen mini cupcakes from Vanilla and they were divine. I’m talking… melt in your mouth, savor every bite delicious. And the best part is, with the mini ones your can try a bunch of flavors without passing out and suffering a massive sugar crash. Basically, I loved them!

I love being able to order online for anything, but especially for baked goods!
I had the Black & White Raspberry cake which was delish, even 4 days later. That’s when you know it’s really good. This particular cake has both dark chocolate and vanilla bean cake, with fresh raspberries, fresh vanilla bean whipped cream, and the whole thing is covered in dark chocolate ganache. The ganache is such a good idea because sometimes you don’t want even more cream on the outside and you definitely never want fondant. I didn’t think the cake was overly sweet either which was nice.
I would definitely order more goods to try from here. If you get a custom message on your cake, don’t expect any fancy style fonts though.

Second-​time here, and still, I love it!
Got the 3 for $ 5.25 deal: cinnamon vanilla, Lemon Meyer, and carrot. Super small, but definitely worth each bite. You can tell that the workers put a lot of time and effort into every little detail of each cupcake.
Lemon Meyer: ⁴⁄₅ Frosting was a bit grainy, but the cake itself was light and airy. The lemon curd inside was amazing.
Carrot– ⁴⁄₅ Overall, a solid carrot cupcake, but nothing too special besides the nuts on top.
Cinnamon vanilla– ³⁄₅ Cinnamon flavor was super subtle; otherwise it tasted like a regular vanilla cupcake.

I first discovered this bakery at a Unilocal event at the Los Angeles international Airport, they have a shop located in the Tom Bradley international terminal. I was very impressed to hear of the great care the Vanilla Bake Shop takes in selecting their high-​quality ingredients, I was more impressed after I had a taste of one of their cupcakes.
Today I was in Santa Monica and had a sampling of their little cupcakes, all I have to say is they were sublime! They are so fresh it’s incredible, in addition, the frosting is the best I’ve ever had. This place is definitely worth the trip.

I have been drooling over Vanilla Bake Shop’s Unilocal photos for months and finally decided to experience the cupcakes for myself. Walking to the shop, I was nervous. Would the cupcakes be kept in a cooler case and therefore ruin them? Would the frosting live up to my high expectations? Would they be out of the flavors on my «must try» list? Gasp!
As I entered the store, my face lit up. Cupcakes galore! My first thought was that I’d need one of everything. However, rational thinking soon set in and I turned back to my previously developed list. I ended up with one regular sized Cookies & Cream cupcake and six of the minis. The mini cupcakes are required to be purchased in increments of three. I ordered two of the banana chocolate chip, one red velvet, one gingerbread, one vanilla with chocolate frosting, and lastly one passion fruit.
I didn’t think that my bounty would last more than ten minutes in my hands but still felt the need to pick just the right first cupcake to try. With the fork provided (the only way to properly eat a cupcake), I dug into a mini banana chocolate chip. The flavor was delicious. Cream cheese frosting, chocolate chips, and that lovely bit of banana. Next it was the passion fruit flavor. A little surprise of custard awaited me in the middle of that little bundle of joy.
Overall, I did enjoy the variety of cupcakes that I sampled. With the exception of the red velvet mini cupcake, which was perfectly moist and delicious, the rest of the mini cupcakes were a bit dry. However, the flavors of the cakes and frosting were very good. My favorite of the day was the regular size cookies and cream cupcake. The cake was so wonderfully moist and flavorful and it was topped with just the right amount of buttercream frosting. I found that the frosting maybe needed to be a bit more sweet but it was still quite good. Then again, this is coming from someone who once made a batch of buttercream frosting for no reason other than to eat it directly from the bowl. So.. . yeah, I have a thing for buttercream.
Bottom line, I like Vanilla Bake Shop and fully intend to be a regular patron.

Fabulous cupcake. It’s the wonder of the light, rich and buttery cake with light-​as-​cloud frosting with raspberry and Meyer lemon curd. The tart and acid cut through the buttery richness,& the balance was like a 2-​part invention by Bach, with both hands carrying a melody.
